CentOS 6 early panic on ESXi 4.1.0 build 800380
I run VMware vSphere 4 Essentials with three almost identically configured ESXi 4.1 hosts and a mix of 32 and 64 bit guests including Windows 2003 and 2008 as well as CentOS 5 and 6. Recently I updated one of the hosts to build 800380. The new build runs Windows and CentOS 5 VMs fine, but CentOS 6 guests won't come up. I tried two different CentOS 6 VMs. Both have the latest standard kernel

CentOS 5 sshd does not log IP address of reverse mapping failure
I'm running a mix of CentOS 5 and 6 servers reachable by ssh from the Internet. Of course I allow only public key authentication and no root login. In addition I'm running fail2ban to block obnoxious brute force attack sources. On CentOS 6 this is working pretty well, but on CentOS 5 there's one class of attacks fail2ban fails to ban. (No pun intended.) This isn't fail2ban's

cross-compiling nut
Hello, I would like to run nut 2.6.1 on an embeeded machine ( arm9 ) running linux and uclibc. A working gcc tool chain came with the board. How can I compile and build nut using the cross compiler tool chain ? I know that this is not a very specific question. I have however little experience with cross compiling, and I wonder where to start. A logical point would be the configure script. It

confusion about using samba as NT4 PDC with ldapsam backend
Hello, I want to use samba v3.3.x to implement an NT4/Win2k style domain: a samba PDC and a samba BDC, using ldapsam for the 'passdb backend'. I plan to use RedHat Directory Server v8.2 as the ldap server. I'm trying to sort out how user/group management and nss will work. I'm confused about how/when the samba-supplied ldap schema is used (I mean the schema that's in the

CentOS Bugtracker: how to give up on an issue?
Every time I go to http://bugs.centos.org/my_view_page.php I am shown, under "Reported by me", three problems with the CentOS Bacula packages which I reported in 2011, complete with proposed fix, but which never got any love (status still "new"): 0005271 missing dependency mt-st bacula - 2011-11-28 12:44 0005261 make_catalog_backup.pl creates .my.cnf with bad mode bacula -

5.9 logwatch yum filter broken
After the upgrade to CentOS 5.9, all my CentOS 5 installations report only "Unmatched Entries" in the "yum" section of their daily logwatch mails. It seems the filter script /usr/share/logwatch/scripts/services/yum got broken: --------8<--------8<--------8<--------8<--------8<--------8<--------8< [root at dns01 ~]# /usr/sbin/logwatch --print --service yum

Can't install Half-Life
Hi all, I got problems installing Half-Life. I manage to start the Setup.exe, the installer loads and the WAV file is played :) Then, wine/HL hangs. There's no error msg or something, it just freezes. I use Wine ver 0.0.2000010 (latest deb package). Can someone help me? I checked out http://lhl.linuxgames.com and http://www.winehq.com already... TIA, Tilman

Speeding up configuration log regeneration?
Hi, We run four-node Lustre 2.3, and I needed to both change hardware under MGS/MDS and reassign an OSS ip. Just the same, I added a brand new 10GE network to the system, which was the reason for MDS hardware change. I ran tunefs.lustre --writeconf as per chapter 14.4 in Lustre Manual, and everything mounts fine. Log regeneration apparently works, since it seems to do something, but

wine-users digest, Vol 1 #354 - 8 msgs
There was an HL demo, downloaded from Sierra, that was a completely new episode - more like a taste of things to come. I enjoyed playing it, even after I had finished the full game, but was a little disappointed with the ending of the demo. Can't complain for free, though. I suggest you go and buy the 'battle pack' or whatever it's called - HL, OpFor, TFC, and a few other
