Limiting the execution of Wine to allowed programs
My uncle has these kids who messed up their Windows computer on a monthly basis by going to unsafe websites. So I had to fix it for them, multiple times. There was a time when I went on strike, but because of the family I was "forced" into fixing it. Lots and lots of hours wasted on fixing their computer problems and still they don't learn their lesson. So, the past few months I

Simple Vorbis Players...
This might be off topic for this list, I apologize if it is. I am currently looking for a *very simple* Ogg Vorbis player to help me in developing one of my own (for a thesis project). I would actually settle for any simple audio player that plays a compressed format (MP3, or whatever) so I can see some active demonstrations of playing PCM buffers through waveOut of DirectSound

Further question on wine 1.3
I've read the guide but I don't understand yet how to create a wineprefix (other than /.wine) in which test the apps... I would know both the CLI mode and the GUI mode (if any). I ask help before that strange errors destroy my working Wine apps :)

OGG->CDA programs ?????
Anyone have a status update on when Sonic Foundry plans on supporting RC2 ogg files? A while back on this list someone said they had a good contact at SF and was supposed to chekc up on it. I have contacted Ahead Software about including Vorbis support with Nero and they asked that a developer contact them about including it. Any chance a developer can contact them about support for Vorbis

Launching Source engine games results in crash, small res
Well I'm able to get Steam running fine, however I've tried to play the following: Team Fortress 2 Left 4 Dead Counter-strike Source Portal When I try to launch Source based games the screen goes black and then it resizes the resolution to something like 1024x600. I am able to get the Left 4 Dead intro movie to play with this script: WINEPREFIX=~/.wine.steam wine

secuirty bug with /etc/login.access
/etc/login.access does not work 100% over ssh. I have the following line in login.access -:ray:ALL EXCEPT LOCAL Which I believe means the user 'ray' can not login from anywhere unless it is a local login. So, I tested it over ssh from a remote box tigger@piglet:~% ssh ray@sonic.cbnmediaX.com.au Password: Password: Password: ray@sonic.cbnmediaX.com.au's password: Last login: Sat

Issue with a bug with imap-login
Hello, Currently working on migrating our existing directors from 2.1.13 to 2.2.10. In 2.2.10 when issuing the logout command on an unauthenticated connection, the connection is closed before the server sends the BYE line to the client. The new version works as expected with a non-secure connection. I will include the strace output from the imap-login process that shows the connection closing

Questions, Issues with 2.0
I'm trying to use an external program to set the location of user's maildirs to match an existing hashing schema but the docs for how to do this in 1.x do not seem to apply to 2.0 or I'm misinterpreting them. protocol imap { mail_executable = /opt/dovecot-test/sonic-imap ... This correctly executes the and attempts to sets the MAIL variable but it appears that mail_executable is

Installing xaudio2 (Serious Sam Second Encounter HD)
Is there a way to install xaudio2 without using the large `winetricks directx9' ? I am asking because I would like to try serious sam second hd, but in a clean wineprefix it does not start asking for a xaudio2 dll. I copied that .dll inside the game directory, but the game starts soundless and it shows an error about an non-updated xaudio2. A part of the lack of the audio the game runs

Trouble with directx games on wine-1.2 64 bit
Ever since the RCs and the release of 1.2, I have been having trouble with directx based games not working properly. They did work under wine-1.1.3x. The problems are: video very slow and jerky, about 1 fps, objects appearing as "tears" on the screen, missing some textures, and screen going blank during certain effects. System: 64-bit kubuntu-10.04, dual NVIDIA 9800GT w/ 512 mb, plenty

Xen is working, thanks!
Well, it''s running about three days with two virtual machines without any problem. Thanks all and congratulations! I notice that xen0 doesn''t have SMP support enabled. Does it make sense enable SMP on xenU? -- Flávio Bruno Leitner <fbl@conectiva.com.br> [ E74B 0BD0 5E05 C385 239E 531C BC17 D670 7FF0 A9E0 ] -------------------------------------------------------

Driver dpt_i2o
Hi! I''m trying to install XEN on my test machine because running it on cdrom was too slow. Well, that test machine is a dual P4 with hyperthreading, 2GB of RAM and scsi controller dpti2o. I read the Xeno-1.2-HOWTO.txt, and compile xenolinux without problem, but xen appears to not support dpti2o. Am I missing something here? Another question, when the machine is at grub menu, we can

Modifying R_CheckStack for a speed increase
Greetings R developers, R will run a little faster when executing "pure R" code if the function R_CheckStack() is modified. With the modification, the following code for example runs 15% faster (compared to a virgin R-2.5.1 on my Windows XP machine): N = 1e7 foo <- function(x) { for (i in 1:N) x <- x + 1 x }

Age of Empires II Won't Run
I can't seem to get Age of Empires II to run after successful installation. I have created a new WINEPREFIX directory and installed it there and tried first without directx and with it. It is gold on the appdb so I'm a bit surprised. OS is Ubuntu 8.10 and I have tried with wine 1.1.15, 1.1.14 and 1.01. Each time it dumps the memory. Thanks for any help.
