Winbind: disable UDP/137 broadcasts
I have a samba winbind server which is operating properly. I have the firewall configured to DROP outbound traffic on UDP/137 and 139. The broadcast traffic on these ports will not reach any pertinent machines due to subnetting, and is unwanted traffic. The server is working without this traffic hitting the network. However, Winbindd is constantly trying to broadcast and logging that it

Windows 7 attempting to access Samba over port 80
Good Morning: I'm running a domain-joined Samba 3.6 server. For the majority of users it is working as expected; they can log in without issue using their domain credentials and AD group ACLs are working. However, I have one Windows 7 user who is complaining he can't log in. When I looked on the server I see no logs for his machine. I did a initial traffic sniff and I see his machine

Patch for NGROUPS_MAX on FreeBSD with more then 64 groups
Hi on FreeBSD it happens that without this patch the number of groups is limited to 32. Since we need a greater number of groups, we send this patch. Hope it is approved early. domain/unix groups and valid users parameter
Hi, I want to switch from 'security = server' to 'security = ADS'. Kerberos is working and I can login to the server. With Samba 3.0.22 I was able to restrict access to shares with the 'valid users' directive. ve is local unix group. valid users = +ve And force the group ownership with the 'force group' directive. force group = +ve [foo] comment = foo

smbd does not run from inetd
Hello, I've a problem with Samba version 2.0.6, where smbd does not start from inetd. nmbd starts from inetd and "smbd -D" works fine as well. And I didn't have that problem with 2.0.4b. The following is an extraction of the smb.log, which shows an "read_socket_data: recv failure for 4. Error = Invalid argument" error. Regarding this problem, what is the difference

Winbind Troubles... string_to_sid: Sid S-0-0 is not in a valid format.
Hello! I posted before, figured I'd try again and provide more information in the original post. I'm running samba-3.0.22-1.fc5, joined to a W2K3 domain. All features appear to work - I've been running it this way for a month. This message appears not to actually affect anything, and it occurs every 30 seconds or so. I'll be happy to post my configs, if necessary. This set

[LLVMdev] new frontend and language
I have developed a new systems programming language called ESL (Embedded Systems Language). The compiler for it is a front end to LLVM and is written in itself, bootstrapping via LLVM assembly code. Most of the language is ordinary, but some things that aren't: no reserved words, procedures can return multiple values, data types allow the exact placement of bits, alignment, and

3.0.23 and group behavior
Okay, first the admisssions: I'll admit that I haven't been following the development as closely as I probably should have. And I'll admit in this case I might not be using Samba in the most efficient way possible. Also, I'm not 100% sure if I'm encountering a bug or just a seriously stupid misconfiguration issue. And I'm still collecting data on exactly what happened.

oplock problem - how to fix?
Hi everyone, Trying to copy a 3.5MB file from a Windows 2000 workstation to a FreeBSD 4.6.2 server running samba-2.2.6.p2. The 3.5MB file is an MS Access file called MoldFE.mdb. After a few seconds of copying the file, a message box pops up on the W2K workstation that states "Cannot copy MoldFE: The specified network name is no longer available". In /var/log/messages, I see this:
