problem pasting into Illustrator CS2
To Whom it May Concern:
I have been using R version 2.6.2 for awhile now, installed on a
PowerMac G5 running OS 10.4.11 I typically get Quartz graphics
output from R into Adobe Illustrator CS2 simply by copying and
pasting. Upon upgrading to R version 2.7.0, I now receive an error
from Illustrator when trying to paste R generated graphics from the
Quartz window into Illustrator. I do

Illustrator 7.0 worked . . . once?
Hi,
The first time I tried to run Adobe Illustrator 7 under wine it worked fine
(other than it wouldn't open or save any files). Now, it gives me an error
message: "Unable to find AIRes.dll. Please reinstall application." The file
AIRes.dll is right where it's supposed to be. Any ideas?

Mac: importing saved PDF figures into Illustrator CS
Hello,
This is a usage question for others with experience of R under the Aqua Mac OS X interface.
Basically, I don't succeed in importing PDF files (created with the 'Save As' menu to Quartz device windows) into Illustrator. Versions up to (and including?) 10 loose paths (lines/polygons) and or fill them in black. Version CS (11) on the Mac imports almost correctly, but, "to

negative numbers in R plots in Illustrator 8 (and higher?) (PR#2199)
Negative numbers in (encapsulated) postscript generated by R loose their sign when opened in Adobe Illustrator 8 (french). This was so in 1.5.x and remains in 1.6.0.
I suppose that this is a known issue, although it is rather a flaw in Illustrator than in R, if my analysis of it is correct. I sent a lengthy mail containing a solution (ISOLatin1Encoding has to be redefined) to the r-help mailing

Scatter plot transparency
Hi all,
I'm putting a few plots together and wondering what format would be best to
export a few scatter plots to Illustrator to make a figure. I'm thinking
about overlaying some plot in Illustrator, so the export file type has to be
transparent for Illustrator (version 10).
I tried PNG and TIFF, but it does not seems to have transparency that is
recognized by Illustrator (or Photoshop for

PDF text strangeness (PR#7043)
Hi R-developers
I have noticed a strange little bug/feature: I often create pdf's of plots, then edit them in Adobe Illustrator. Generally this works great, but whenever I have text that is aligned vertically (along the y-axis usually), the text is written out as lots of individual objects. When the text is horizontal (x-axis, other stuff), it is all one object. I would prefer one object

Matrix inversion-different answers from LAPACK and LINPACK
Hello.
I am trying to invert a matrix, and I am finding that I can get different
answers depending on whether I set LAPACK true or false using "qr". I had
understood that LAPACK is, in general more robust and faster than LINPACK,
so I am confused as to why I am getting what seems to be invalid answers.
The matrix is ostensibly the Hessian for a function I am optimizing. I want

avoid using Dingbats symbols for points()
Hi,
I came across with a tiny problem.
E.g.:
pdf()
plot(1:5)
points(2, 3, cex=10, pch=21, bg="grey", lwd=0.3)
points(2, 4, cex=1, pch=21, bg="grey", lwd=0.3)
dev.off()
If I execute this I'll get a nice PDF. Fine.
But I want to edit this PDF with let's say by using Adobe Illustrator.
If I try to open it Illustrator shows up an error message:

Adobe products under Linux?
Also sent to Codeweavers - [what is this list's insights?]
I have a 32 GB, dual quad-core desktop machine and was considering 32-bit
Windows XP w/SP2, but discovered it only supports up to 4 GB RAM, so that idea
is shot.
Next in line is 64-bit CentOS 5. The major need for Windows would be very
active use of Adobe Acrobat 8, Photoshop CS3, and Illustrator CS3.
There may also be the need

Unwanted white borders on semi-transparent polygons?
Hey all,
I'm trying to create a plot of two semi-transparent regions. The reason they need to be partially transparent is so that I can see if there's any overlap. Here's some example code:
# BEGIN
pdf(file="test.pdf",version="1.4")
plot(0,0,type="l",ylim=range(-3,3),xlim=range(-1,5))
polygon(c(0,1,2,3,4,3,2,1,0), c(0,1,2,1,0,-1,-2,-1,0),

Toolbars
Dear all,
When I start Adobe Illustrator 9.0 and ImageReady.exe from Photoshop,
both application suffer from the same problem. The toolbars seems get
stuck with the mouse once you try to move the toolbar windows. I saw
people having the same problem as I did. Is this a known problem which
can be fix? Thanks.

rpart or Postscript problem?
I've run into another postscript/rpart problem unrelated to the issues I've
mentioned in a previous query.
I'm using 1.3.1 on a Win2K box.

draws a very nice plot on the windows graphic device. If I save this as a
postscript file, either by opening a postscript device before calling
plotcp, or by saving the graphics window as a postscript file, the

300 dpi and eps:
Hi,
I have a run of 5 graphs that I want to place them under the same page.
Everything works fine to place them in a pdf file , or eps file, but
when it comes to have a high quality of
300 dpi these graphs are not good. For example I open the eps file with
Adobe Illustrator (AI) and it shows that it is a 72dpi graph. If I start
with a 72dpi graph AI cannot improve this to 300 dpi. Q: HOW CAN A

Hi,
I am new to Wine. I really want to investigate into it. I also
appreciate and want to say thankyou for all the work that wine
developers done.
I've got the following message from running Adobe Illustrator... does
anyone know what is %WINEPREX% ?
Couldn't find PPD file '%WINEPREFIX%/generic.ppd', expect a crash now!
Thanks.

Adobe Illustrator
I have been trying to use Illustrator 8 with wine, and it works fine
except often it doesn't recognize the release of a mouse click, so
tools/selections continue even after you've released the mouse button.
I have no idea as to how to solve this, but anyone with any info it would
be much appreciated.
Thanks

Reading .eps file created in Illustrator
Hello,
I am trying to import an .eps file created with Adobe Illustrator and
plot it in a Quartz window (I am using R 2.11.1 GUI 1.34 Leopard build
32-bit (5589) on MacOSx.5.8).
I thought of using the PostScriptTrace() to convert my .eps file to
RGML, and then use readPicture to plot the file, but the first step
already fails (cf below).
I also had a look at the add.image( ) example,

I created a report with Sweave today, that displayed perfectly on screen,
but crashed both Adobe Pro 9.3.1 and Adobe Reader 9.0 on Windows 7. Output
with Foxit Reader was flawless.
I was able to reproduce a "minimal" example, which is not really minimal but
