centos 6.2; mount 6TB OSX formatted FW
Hi all,
Trying to mount an FW800 6TB volumes.
The logs say;
cannot find hfs+ superblock
and
volumes larger then 2TB are not supported yet
Is my case really because of the >2TB volume?
Thanks in advance,

openldap missing modules
Hi List,
I'm currently setting up an openldap server and included the following
lines in my slapd.conf :
modulepath /usr/lib/ldap
moduleload back_hdb
after finishing up my config and i run slaptest on it i get an error
saying that the modulepath doesn't exist.
I checked and it indeed isn't there , in fact i can find it anywhere on my
system (centos 5.7).
the packages i've

Mounting a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Hard Drive
Hi,
I need to migrate about 8Tb of data from a Mac Fibre Channel RAID to by LVM Ext3 Linux Fibre Channel RAID. For speed I planned to connect both RAID's to my CentOS Server and copy the data directly.
The Mac volume is formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) it seems that CentOS 5.4 supports reading HFS volumes but not HFSPlus volumes. Is there a way of getting this volume to mount so I

Making a NAS/HFS server
I ran into a problem that I couldn't resolve straight away, but would
like to solve for sometime in the future.
We have a Thecus storage server (similar to a Buffalo TeraByte, if that
helps?) that has a Mac filesystem on it. The mother board was failing,
but the drives are still OK. A new box has been added, so the urgency is
sort of gone. I was going to try and back up the data to a new

connection speeds between nodes
Hi All,
I've been asked to setup a 3d renderfarm at our office , at the start it
will contain about 8 nodes but it should be build at growth. now the
setup i had in mind is as following:
All the data is already stored on a StorNext SAN filesystem (quantum )
this should be mounted on a centos server trough fiber optics , which
in its turn shares the FS over NFS to all the rendernodes

centos8 / anaconda EFI regression / HFS+ ESP
Hi folks,
years ago I had no problem installing CentOS7 on my
iMac workstation (iMac Late 2015). The installation
worked out of the box. Today I wanted to upgrade to
CentOS8 and while configuring the partitions I get an
error that the installation can not start because:
"HFS+ ESP needed and mounted on /boot/efi". In fact
they are the same partition as for CentOS7. Is this
a regression

Hierarchical File System and Wine
While trying to dodge issues with case-sensitivity, I stumbled on a somewhat effective solution: the old Mac OS Hierarchical File System (HFS). HFS is case insensitive and supports symlinks, making it very useful for Wine. The drawbacks are that it's slow compared to modern file systems, the max file size is 2GB and filenames are limited to 31 bytes. It will likely have problems running

Feature request: Sync Mac OS resource forks and metadata on Mac OS X
I have a feature request for rsync. I tried posting it to the
FAQ-o-matic, but that system didn't seem to be accepting new
questions. I hope this is an okay list for the request--apologies if
it's misdirected.
Mac OS X provides support for the Mac file system resource forks and
mac specific metadata (e.g., creator and file type). Most Unix
applications ignore this information, but it

hfsplus.ko
Hey on Centos 5 hfsplus.ko is part of the Kernel:
kernel-2.6.18-238.12.1.el5.x86_64 : The Linux kernel (the core of the
Linux operating system)
Repo : installed
Matched from:
Filename : /lib/modules/2.6.18-238.12.1.el5/kernel/fs/hfsplus/hfsplus.ko
doing a yum provides "*/hfsplus.ko" on CentOS 6 finds nothing.
What happened to hfsplus.ko on Centos 6?
Thanks,
Jerry

Writing on an HFS+ drive on raspberry pi
I have been trying for the past few months to set up my raspberry pi to do incremental backups using time machine over Samba since AFP is being deprecated. Also since the latest release of samba (4.8.0) came out with support for time machine I decided to compile it myself and give it a go. The drive is formatted in HFS plus.
The main problem that I am having is that even though I can mount the

Mirroring OS X folders with Rsync
I'm just looking for some advice on a project I am currently working on.
I have two OS X servers and I am looking to use rsync to mirror data between
the two. I just love the fact that rsync only moves the data incrementally.
It is very efficient and since I'm more of a Linux user and I feel
comfortable with rsync. I'm just worried that the way the Apple File Sharing
service handles

using rsync with Mac OS X
Rsync looks like a good tool for keeping files synchronized between two
computers, such as a desktop and laptop. However, Mac OS uses a forked
file system, with the second fork storing data critical to some files
(such as applications) as well as type and creator information matching
files up with the appropriate apps and file types.
Mac OS X comes with a command-line utility called ditto

HFS filesystem on linux + samba -> Mac
Hi
A friend has a disk with an hfs filesystem on it; we'd like to move it to a
Debian (etch 2.6.18-6) box and share it via samba 3.0.24.
I can mount the hfs disk and see the files on the linux box : good
I can share a normal (xfs/etx3) fs via samba to the Mac : good
Although I can share the hfs fs via samba, the extended attributes are not
visible; so the existing files on the hfs

openldap mmr + heartbeat hot standby
Hi List,
I've setup 2 openldap servers in n-way multimaster replication mode in a
test environment, both run centos 6.2,
this works well but now i'm trying to make these 2 servers failover
using heartbeat.
i've got no experience with heartbeat (or setting up clusters in
general) however from what i understand heartbeat starts/stops the
service if the server has the virtual IP

HFS+ resource forks: WIP patch included
As you all know, rsync doesn't have any special handling
for Mac OS X HFS+ resource forks. Kevin Boyd made RsyncX
and rsync_hfs, to address this gap, but they only work when
the destination filesystem is also HFS+. I haven't been
able to find any references to an rsync that is capable of
syncing from HFS+ to UFS (etc). The only solutions I've
seen involve lots of preprocessing

OSX and HFS+ filesystem compression
Hi All,
I have been reading about the HFS+ filesystem compression on Snow Leopard and how copying or cloning over system files with rsync and other tools results in them being expanded on destination. I was wondering if there was any thoughts on updating rsync to accommodate this? It is kind of a shame to the lose the benefits of the new compression. Thanks, Rob

Fwd: rsync on OSX for transferring files using FAT32
Hi,
Which version of Mac OS X are you running? If you are on Mac OS 10.5.x
then I can only suggest that you try either formating the drive to HFS
+ or creating a disk image with an HFS+ file system.
If you are running Mac OS 10.4.x then ensure that that ACL support is
enabled on the drive. The following URL contains information on how to
check and enable ACL support :

Apple hfs mounting help. OT maybe?
I am running a CentOS 3 server with a kernel version -2.4.21-40. I typically
use Webmin to accomplish mounting varied filesystems, but this one has me
buffaloed.
We have a Thecus N5400 that was mounted on a Mac and a ton of data was
written to it. All of the data was placed in yearly folders with
content-related folders below the yearly folders.
When I mount this through Webmin as an smbfs
