Problems with generalized linear model (glm) coefficients.
Hello to everyone.
I´m writing you because I´m feeling a bit frustrated with my work.
My work consists in finding the relation between the amount of fires and
the weather, so, my response variable is the amount of fires in a fire
season and the explanatory variables are the temperature, the amount of
precipitation and the some others…. my problem is this; I keep getting the
wrong sign in the

Run-time error '429'
Hello,
I'm running wine on my Lenovo X60s under Ubuntu 7.04
I received a small program-executable made somehow with Matlab. A simple
flow simulation model.
Installation and executing the file with wine seems to be unproblematic
first. However, there are some functions in the program where it crashes
with the following message:

Matrix "BYTES" size
Dear R people.
I´m facing a big problem.
I need to create a matrix with 10.000 columns and 750.000 rows.
matrix<- as.data.frame(matrix(data=0L, nrow=750000, ncol=10000)
as you can see, the data frame has huge dimesions. I was able to find out
about thr "L" in data, this way I´m telling that my data is "integer"
class. By doing this
object.size(matrix) tells me that this is

any similiar R fuction for matlab function 'fprintf'?
Dear All,
Currently, I am translating Matlab code to R. I met difficulties to translate such Matlab codes into R:
fprintf(fid,(' SPLITTING RESULTS '));
fprintf(fid,(' \n'));
fprintf(fid,' Data base to analyze is a matrix %4i x %2i ',[n m]);
fprintf(fid,' \n');
fprintf(fid,' h is %2i',h);
fprintf(fid,' \n');
fprintf(fid,' group=0

priority of operators in the FOR ( ) statement
Dear All,
I spent an entire evening in debugging a small, fairly simple program in R
- without success. It was my Guru in Bayesian Analysis, Thomas Fridtjof,
who was able to diagonose the problem. He said that it took a long time
for him also to locate the problem.
This program illustrates in some ways the shortcomings of the error
messages that R responds with. In this case, it was quite

su/sudo using ssh auth
To the openssh and sudo developer mailing lists:
Ssh has a key agent allowing authentication to remote hosts without
entering your password/passphrase again and again, which is very
convenient. I think the 'su', 'sudo', and similiar commands could benefit
from this idea and mechanism. I don't have the necessary expertise in
cryptology to do this myself so I just want to throw

(2) Questions
Hi Fellows from R-Help List!
My questions are basic since i an new with R. I am very acquainted with Matlab &
Gauss (the compentence, I guess). Anyhow,
(1) I am trying to get R execute comands made or built as text, so that one can
feed a particular option with many variations coming from a text file. Is this
possible with the free version? For instance, there exists the eval comand in

6 different errors while using glm.nb
Hello to everyone.
I need your help. I´m trying to fit the same *glm.nb* to a different data
set and i am getting these errors in some of the data. Sometimes, one data
set has two of these errors when fitting the model.
1.- Error en while ((it <- it + 1) < limit && abs(del) > eps) { :

2.- Mensajes de aviso perdidos

Force evaluation of a symbol when a function is created
I am porting a program in matlab to R,
The problem is that Matlab has a feature where symbols that aren't arguments are evaluated immediately.
That is:
Y=3
F=@(x) x*Y
Will yield a function such that F(2)=6.
If later say. Y=4 then F(2) will still equal 6.
R on the other hand has lazy evaluation.
F<-function(x){x*Y}
Will do the following
Y=3
F(2)=6
Y=4
F(2)=8.
Does anyone know of away to

What exactly does rchkusr() do?
Hi all,
I am trying to compile a fortran routine originally written for R
from within matlab.
It all worked fine, but the newest version of the Fortran code has a
call to rchkusr() and I now get a message that this is an undefined
symbol.
I am under the impression that rchkusr() just serves to let the
processor take care of interruption messages (typically, the user

"Executing" a string
In Matlab or Octave I can evaluate (evalf) the content of
a string. In R I have looked around in the docs, but have not
found a way to do something equivalent (which is possible, I think).
Can anybody give me a pointer?

comment on dovecot documentation on PAM
Dear Dovecote devotees,
I have been going through dovecot configuration for the
first time. I am not an experienced systems administrator
so I had to do a left turn to read up about PAM while
doing all the configuration for my new webmail service.
I found that the writing in the dovecot documentation about
PAM to be rather misleading in at least one aspect.
The documentation I am specifically

R and reading matlab compressed files
Is there any way to read these files (standard .mat files, created by
matlab version 7 onwards are compressed)? I know that R.matlab doesn't
read them (it even says in the file MatlabServer.m "Matlab v7 saves
compressed files, which is not recognized by R.matlab's readMat()" (lines
47-8)).
I know I should be able to make R call Matlab and transfer data (not that

Moving data between R and Matlab back and forth?
Hi to the list,
I am trying to find a way to painlessly move structured data back and
forth between R and Matlab (also Octave). For this purpose I found the
R.matlab package great help. I wish to use a Matlab -v6 MAT file as an
intermediary format, because it is well read by both Matlab and
Octave. It is also well read by 'readMat' function in R.matlab
package, but that is where I run
