PLS predict
Hi,
I have a question about understanding PLS. If I use the predict function
of R than it seems to me the function only uses the last latent variable
to model new Y values. But should the function not use all latent
variables to model new Y?s?
Thank you very much for your help.

page() (Was: Re: predict.smooth.spline.fit and Recall() (Was: Re: Return function from function and Recall()))
Here I think S3 dispatch is very natural. Try the following:
page <- function(x, method = c("dput", "print"), ...) UseMethod("page")
page.getAnywhere <- function(x, ..., idx=NULL) {
name <- x$name;
objects <- x$obj;
if (length(objects) == 0)
stop("no object named '", name, "' was found");
if (is.null(idx)) {

predict.smooth.spline.fit and Recall() (Was: Re: Return function from function and Recall())
Hi,
forget about the below details. It is not related to the fact that
the function is returned from a function. Sorry about that. I've
been troubleshooting soo much I've been shoting over the target. Here
is a much smaller reproducible example:
x <- 1:10
y <- 1:10 + rnorm(length(x))
sp <- smooth.spline(x=x, y=y)
ypred <- predict(sp$fit, x)
# [1] 2.325181 2.756166 ...

Hi,
I'm Pina and I'm a student in geology. I'm working with spectral profile of

[R] fix and edit don't work: unable to open X Input
(moved from R-help)
I tried this on Ubuntu with R-2.14.1 built from source, and I do not get
the segfault problem. (I don't at the moment have a debian binary R, or
I would confirm whether I get the segfault problem.) My sessioninfo() is

nonlinear least square optimization
Hi,
I've been using "nlregb" routine in splus3.4, but cannot find it here
in R. Is it hidden in some library?
Or there is a routine equivalent to it but with a different name? I'm
planning to move part of my from S to R so that I can work comfortablely
at home. Any suggestion is highly appreciated.
regards,
Tony

fix and edit don't work: unable to open X Input Method->segfault
I can't run fix() or edit() anymore. Did I break my system?
I'm running Debian Linux with R-2.14.1. As far as I can tell, the R
packages came from Debian's testing "wheezy" repository. I would like
to know if users on other types of systems see the same problem. If
no, then, obviously, it is a Debian-only issue and I can approach it
from that point of view. And if no other

Predict polynomial problem
I have a function that fits polynomial models for the orders in n:
lmn <- function(d,n){
models=list()
for(i in n){
models[[i]]=lm(y~poly(x,i),data=d)
}
return(models)
}
My data is:
> d=data.frame(x=1:10,y=runif(10))
So first just do it for a cubic:
> mmn = lmn(d,3)
> predict(mmn[[3]])

Odd behaviour with scale()
Moi!
A student here has been getting a bit irritated with some side effects
of scale() (OS is Windows XP, the behaviour occurs in R 2.0.0, but not
1.7.1). The problem is that she scales a variable in a data frame, then
does a regression, and tries to get some predictions for some new data.
However, at this point she gets an error (see the example below). This
seems to be because the

repeated vector in matrix
Hallo,
I'll need a matrix with n rows of the an identical vector.
> h
[1] 3 3 3 3 2 2 2
The nmatrix should look like this:
> x<-rbind(h,h,h)
> x
[,1] [,2] [,3] [,4] [,5] [,6] [,7]
h 3 3 3 3 2 2 2
h 3 3 3 3 2 2 2
h 3 3 3 3 2 2 2
but I need n rows which must be variable. Can anyone help me?
thanks Andreas

Problem storing lm() model in a list
Hi all,
I recently wrote some code to store a number of polynomial models in a list and return this list. The model is returned fine, but when I make a subsequent call to predict(), I have an error. The code for polyModel selection is listed at the end of the email. Here is an example of the error:
> poly.fit <- polyModelSelection(x,y,10,F)
> for (d in 1:4) {

predict.rpart question
Dear All,
I have a question regarding predict.rpart. I use
rpart to build classification and regression trees and I deal with data with
relatively large number of input variables (predictors). For example, I build an
rpart model like this
rpartModel <- rpart(Y ~ X, method="class",
minsplit =1, minbucket=nMinBucket,cp=nCp);
and get predictors used in building the model like

User defined function's argument as Subset function's input
Dear R users,
I have a data where I desire to subset according to certain conditions.
However, the script is very messy as there are about 30 distinct conditions.
(i.e. same script but with different conditions)
I would like to make a user defined function so that I can input the desired
conditions and just get the results accordingly.
Below is an arbitrary data set & sample statements

difference between ns and bs in predict.glm
I am fittling a spline to a variable in a regression model, I am then using
the predict.glm funtion to make some predictions. When I use bs to fit the
spline I don't have any problems using the predict.glm function however when
I use ns I get the following error:

Hey all,
I need some help with a cross validation. I'm new with R and as well with

vegetation. Its a regression between a linear function of using a normalized
differenced index (i-j)/(i+j) while i and j are the bands (in the data these

untar() error
Dear List,
I have a list of 600+ *.gz files that I would like to extract and read the
geotiffs contained within them. I tried using the untar() function to
simplify this task but I am stumped by an error. I've combed the Internet
for a solution without luck. The details are below, and any help in solving
this matter is appreciated.

How to Extract Information from SIMEX Output
Below is a SIMEX object that was generated with the "simex" function from the
"simex" package applied to a logistic regression fit. From this mountain of
information I would like to extract all of the values summarized in this

Can someone suggest how to go about doing this? I can extract the
