'inherit owner' doesn't play nice with 'force directory mode'
Hello I am trying to create a 'dropbox' share, using the sticky bit and 'inherit owner'. By themselves they work, but when a directory is created in this share, its permissions are not quite what I need. Therefore, I try to use 'force directory mode' or 'inherit permissions'. However, whenever I do that, the owner on the newly-created directory is no longer correct

Samba4 bug - "mount error(5): Input/output error"
Hi Rowland, do you maybe have any idea what could potentially cause this bug? smbclient thrwos me back a mount error(5): Input/output error when I try to mount the remote smbFS. It doesn't happen with my MacOSx and Windows 7 as client but it happens with Linux OSs and with a Konica Minolta copy machine with a scanner to samba function. The first try to mount fails with the above error.

Problem after updating 3.3 to 3.5
Hi, I recently updated my Samba from 3.3 to 3.5, and while that worked fine, I can no longer access my shares - it asks for a password, which fails even if I do enter a correct one. Here is one of my shares - very simple, I think: [myshare] comment = My Share path = /path/to/myshare public = yes read only = yes writable = no browseable = yes printable = no guest ok = yes

ACL set in Windows not set in Samba
Setup: Samba AD DC and Samba AD Member Server, Win10 clients only. Samba version 4.8.1 Has something changed recently in the way ACL's are supposed to work? My existing shares work just fine but any ALC changes I make using Windows are ignored in Samba. For example, I'm creating a new folder in Windows inside an existing share and I add user User1 or group Group1 in the security tab.

Controlling share create permissions
Is it possible to set default create permissions on certain directories within a share? ie. Create files in the share [something] /folder1/ as 744 but in /folder1/subfolder/ as 777. I thought of creating two shares and having the users manually go into the other share to save thier files, but confusion ensued. Thanks for any help! Ryan

pam_mount permissions
G'day All Thank you to every one who has helped me get pam_mount and winbind working. I can now use winbind to use the passwords from a samba HEAD PDC to do authentications and pam_mount to mount the users home directory. YAY Does any one know what the option is to change the permissions on a mounted directory in pam_mount? at present it gives me rwxr-xr-x, which is fine. But I run startx

Shares mount on linux but not windows?
Curious. I have a gentoo server running 3.0.23d that simply serves out shares. It is a domain member, but not a pdc. From another linux server, I can mount up shares without a hitch. But from a windows box, I keep getting prompted for credentials. I am not seeing anything substantial in the logs. SMB.CONF -------- [global] workgroup = UNICITY realm = MYREALM.MYDOMAIN.COM

Samba serving sshfs shares: can't delete files
Hello! I have samba share on my sshfs-mounted folder. All works just fine except I can't delete files from sshfs unless they are in 0777 chmodded directory. Even if that files were putted trough smbclient. I can read files, write files (regardless their directory permissions) but not delete them. Here is my share config: [myshare] comment = shre over sshfs path = /home/kli/work/remotes/dev

"Windows" share issue; access via smb:// fails, "mount -t cifs" works
Hi, Is anyone here using smb:// URLs to access "Windows" shares? I've been doing this for a while with common file systems at work, and it used to work just fine. Then I while back, I started getting issues; I will now just keep getting asked for a password when I try to access something through smb://. I thought at first that this meant there had been some kind of change

samba file server - sediskoperatorprivilege not being honored
Hello, I've been setting up new file server using samba 4.8.3 (centos 7 RPM), as samba 4 AD member server using my earlier smb.conf when I realised that I was  previously somewhat circumventing the SeDiskOperatorPrivilege by using "admin users map" to SAMDOM\Domain admins" parameter in smb.conf. I decided to change my smb.conf and setup shares following samba wiki. All
