Acceptable version mismatch between syslinux 6.0N's MBR/ldlinux.sys and *.c32?
Hi there, first, thanks a lot for syslinux! I'm aware that one can't mix syslinux 4's MBR + ldlinux.sys with syslinux 6's COM32R modules. Fair enough. Now, I need to know how strong this "versions *must* match" requirement is when dealing with different versions of syslinux 6.x. E.g. * MBR and ldlinux.sys installed by syslinux 6.03-pre1 * all *.c32 modules

How to recognize an MBR suitable for isohybrid --mac ?
Hi, i have implemented in xorriso the equivalents of isohybrid.c options --mac and --uefi. There remains the question how to ensure that the submitted MBR is prepared for the 32 byte mock-up of an APM Block0. I see in git of may 2012 that all mbr/isohdp[fp]x*.bin begin by 33 ed 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90 90

6.2 - How to check for a failed disk using LVM with a hardware RAID (3ware)
CentOS Community, What commands can I use to check the disk health of the system when LVM2 is being used on top of a RAID 10 using a HARDWARE 3ware raid card. The OS sees a hardware raid usually as one big drive. Is there a way to check the disks individually to see if any are failing, or throwing hard or scsi transport errors?

LVM question
CentOS Community, It is to my understanding that the /boot partition should never be placed on LVM and should be a physical partition on the hard drives (or on top of a RAID array). Is this an accurate statement? Also please advise if the SWAP filesystem is safe to be placed under LVM, or if this should be a hard partition / hard limit as well. I am unsure if boot issues or any filesystem issues

What happened if install a el7 package on a el6 system
Hi, Recently, I encountered a interesting phenomenon that CentOS 6.3 running as normal even if I (my colleague, actually) installed a kernel that build for CentOS 7.x (e.g. kernel-3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64.rpm). I found kernel is mismatch accidentally when I using "uname -r" to check kernel version. So my question is what the harmness we will get if I install a el7 rpm into a el6 system?

How to move my MBR
I removed an ATA drive (/home) for a new SATA and my system would not boot. I'm guessing that it put the MBR on that drive instead of the drive that holds the / partition. What's the best way confirm where the MBR resides and, after I verify that's my problem, how I can move (or make a copy) onto a different drive? Thanks, Scott

confidence in partitioning tool (6.2)
I have a Windows 7 laptop that I want to make dual boot with CentOS 6.2. My plan was to use the Windows Disk Management tool to partition the disk, but I do not have the needed admin rights on the box to use that. Has anyone used the partitioning tool that comes with 6.2 to do this? Can I have some level of confidence that it will not mess things up so that I cannot boot into Windows? if it screws

CentOS LiveCD on USB
I have been following these instructions: https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=501 to put a bunch of utilities (Clonezilla, SystemRescue, CentOS netinstall/rescue, etc.) on a single USB key. It works great for everything (including Ubuntu Live) except the CentOS 6.4 LiveCD. (You can see my postings at the bottom of the forum.) When booting the LiveCD, I got: Kernel panic - not syncing:

centos 5.2 install: mbr or no bootloader ?
I recently used a purchased centos 5.2 dvd to install. It all went smoothly, and I am up and running automagically it seems to have upgraded itself to 5.3 Final One peculiarity: I believe I was given the choice of: --installing the bootloader into mbr or --no bootloader install I did not want my mbr overwritten, so I chose no bootloader Why is there no choice of 1st sector of root partition?

Trying to mount RAID1 degraded with removed disk -> open_ctree failed
Hi, I have setup a RAID1 using 3 devices (500G each) on separate disks. After removing one disk physically the filesystem cannot be mounted in degraded nor in recovery mode. When putting the disk back in the filesystem can be mounted without errors. I did a cold-swap (powercycle after removal/insertion of the disk). Here are the details: - latest kernel 3.2.1 and btrfs-tools on xubuntu

Mirroring Hard Drive
I have a 500GB Sata drive about 15% used I would like to make an exact copy of too another Sata 500GB drive as a spare. That way if something happens to the one in service I can plug in the spare quickly and restore one of the weekly backups without reinstalling the entire OS and all the little tweaks of setup on this mail/web server.
