samba acl restore error
Dear Jeremy and samba team , This is suresh from EMC.I am having samba 3.4.8 on my NAS with posix acls support. When a backup software backs up files and folders, it typically backs up the security settings on the files/folders too. Then during restore, the software will try to restore the files/folders along with their security settings. The restore is now broken because security settings

Slow FIND_FIRST2 response
I'm running Samba 4.0.7 on CentOS 6.4 running double duty as DC and file server. OS X clients are taking a _long_ time to list long directories. One directory with 10K entries is taking 3-4 minutes to display the entries in Finder. I captured a few seconds worth of packets and noticed that it's doing three requests per file: 1. NTCreateAndX - just opens the file 2. Close 3. FIND_FIRST2 -

Logon Script is not executed: STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
Last week we finally upgraded our servers from Samba 3 to Samba 4 and so far everything runs smoothly. For now we run 4.15.13 with an old NT-style domain while we are preparing to migrate to Samba AD-style domain. Since the upgrade we have the issue that the logon scripts are not executed for domain users. It works a 100% for domain admins and 0% for non admin users and we have no idea why. We

Clients cannot auth to server 2012 with MIT DC
I've been playing with a MIT powered DC. There are two DCs, an existing Heimdal based one running Samba 4.5 and a new MIT based one running 4.7.6. There are clients running Windows 7 and 10, a 2012R2 server, and a Samba 4.5 file server. Once the new MIT DC is brought online, clients can no longer connect to the Windows server by hostname. Connections still work via IP address which makes me

setting ACLs via powershell
Dear list, I am struggling with a problem about interaction between a samba share and ACLs set through powershell (Set-Acl). The share was configured following guidelines at the Samba's wiki (https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_Share_Using_Windows_ACLs) and I took care about the "rpc rights grant" section. I am able to set permission from within Windows Explorer and using

Unexpected "Access Denied"
Background: This situation is using Rational ClearCase in a situation with server on Solaris 10 and clients on a mixture of Windows XP and Windows 7, with access to the VOB (repository) enabled via Samba version: 3.4.9 Users are getting a consistent error with a specific ClearCase operation (Add to Source Control), which we have traced to a Samba interaction. The issue: For the interaction

Excel 'Document not saved' Error when using SMB2 Protocol
Hi Samba Users, I'm in the process of building a Samba4 CTDB /GPFS Cluster joined as a member server to AD that also supports ACL's . It has taken some time but almost everything is working now :) . My one outstanding issue is editing files using Excel 2007 on Windows 7 results in a 'Document not saved' error. I believe this is an issue with the SMB2 protocol as I can edit the same

Dynamic forking in Win32
I created an application that uses dynamic forking and it works perfect in windows, but fails in wine. Is this a bug or is this feature disabled in Wine? I don't have wine myself but someone we have testing the app for us does. It's difficult to debug over the net so I was hoping for some help here... After adding some debug info we've traced a few failure points to a call to

access denied with samba share
Hello Samba group, Problem: I cannot get samba share to grant access to my /shared share. I created it, gave the linux user permissions and tested them, my Windows XP Pro sees the share, I can map a drive to it, but I cannot change to it: Access denied is the error I get. I'm logged into Windows XP as the same user ID and password as on the Linux system. I had a problem when accessing the

macromedia homesite cannot browse share - no path
Hello, I have my samba share running and I can access everything just fine from my windows XP work station. However I have a problem with macromedia homesite. I can see but not open the share because homesite thinks I do not have access. I have captured the network traffic with a sniffer and it seems the path is a problem.. Here is a snip of my network traffic where 192.168.0.9 is my linux

tree connect
When trying to access a disk share (on a VMware Win2K machine) that shows up fine with smbclient -L (version 2.2.8a on Gentoo), I get a "tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED" error. Examining the TCP stream with Ethereal (see excerpts below) revealed that the initial login went fine, with password sent and accepted. However, a second authentication exchange, apparently for

intermittent problem printing - cups+samba+ldap
A problem has come up in our computer labs. We use one account for a given lab, except in the main lab where students have individual accounts. In either case, printing is only intermittently successful. We use a "net use lpt1 \\server\printer" command in a batch file run at login to connect the printer. The command completes successfully. The CUPS status page for the printer

Update -> Someone with "Access Denied" from Windows pls try this test to compare notes with me
Wow, an old message from 2004 and I'm seeing the same problem across my network presently. http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2004-August/091252.html What is interesting is that there were not problems until about 4 weeks ago. At first I thought it might be me and my numerous passwords getting confused, but then my wofes laptop started showing the same symptoms. Both laptops have
