Sending email with IMAP instead of SMTP?
Here's a kind of "outside the box" thought. Why not extend the IMAP protocol to send email? Instead of having to use SMTP if an addition were made to the IMAP protocol then IMAP could transport outgoing mail to the server the same way it moves messages to the server. On the server end Dovecot would deliver outgoing email to the host MTA via localhost:25. The advantage would be

Vacation use different SMTP server
Thanks for idea but it won't work for me as 'internal domains' can be anything, including gmail.com (and i don't know which of them are really internal/local, this is decided by sending SMTP everytime something is sent, based on MX records). Problem is that Dovecot/Sieve is using wrong SMTP server (one used for receiving e-mails which should NEVER be used for sending [and

postfix problem since update: mail loops back to myself
Hello I already asked in the IRC, but apart from recommendations reading the mailing lists, nobody could help me. I read all postfix-update related articles but non of them seemed to match or resolve my problem: Everything works fine, apart from one host, which we are doing MX backups for (backupdomain.com): Sep 22 12:18:58 homer postfix/smtp[18784]: 6BD7B1189E4: to=<user at

test emails did not arrive at SMTP server : after dovecot installation
Just set up postfix & it's running on my RHES 4.2 box. Immediately after postfix is up, I test sending emails from a permitted domain (ahhh, on this postfix server's domain firewall, we even have a firewall rule which permits Tcp25 from those few sending domains' SMTP servers) using an email client to sender_id@[IP_address_of_the_postfix_server] & the /var/log/maillog on

Vacation use different SMTP server
Hi, in our setup, we have two SMTP servers: - one for receiving messages (this one is using Dovecot's LMTP for delivery) - one for sending messages (this one is used by our users as outgoing SMTP server) Only the first one has list of local domains, local e-mail accoutns etc. so the second one will ALWAYS use MX records for delivery - with this setup, we can allow to our users to

sendmail and spamassassin
I have a problem getting spamd and sendmail (both stock CentOS4 rpms) to work together on a couple of smtp relay machines. This is clearly a configuration issue and no doubt revolves around my lack of comprehension of how this is to work. Basically, the setup consists of two frontend public smtp transports that redirect all email through a firewall to an internal imap server for final

sendmail on Centos 7.7
Hi All, I am 'trying' to set SMART_HOST in sendmail to point to smtp-relay.gmail.com but when looking at the /var/log/maillog its going to mx203.inbound-mx.net. [192.110.255.243], why??? my line from sendmail.mc define(`SMART_HOST', `smtp-relay.gmail.com') I did make in /etc/mail and service sendmail restart This is the only SMART_HOST in the config file. I started with the

Hi Friends, I am running Centos 5 64-bit on a Dell sever. I am trying to configure iptables for smtp traffic for which I need some help/guidance. The scenario is like this: On a linux box we have 3 public ips(eth1,eth2 and eth3) and 1 LAN IP(eth0). 2 public IPs are from the same service provider and 1 is from different service provider. eth3 and eth2 are from the same public provider but

lists.samba.org's Mail Servers Are A Bit Wonky?
To Whom It May Concern, I tried emailing the ostensible mailing list owner, at both addresses noted, and got no response. Maybe somebody here knows how to alert whomever must know about this. Observe... From home (business class cable with static IP and valid rDNS)... $ host -t mx samba.org samba.org mail is handled by 10 smtp.samba.org. samba.org mail is handled by 5

Centos 6.2 Postfix - forward through SMTP smarthost with SMTP-AUTH
Hi All, I have set up three servers in a development environment. Via CR they're updated to Centos 6.2 It appears that these servers have postfix installed on them by default, which unfortunately I'm not very well acquainted with. All I want is a quick and dirty way to enable these hosts to send email through my own SMTP host. My (sendmail) SMTP host uses SMTP AUTH on a non-standard

Centos 6 Sendmail backup MX Config
Hi All, I'm just wanting to check that my understanding of the settings is correct as my web searches are finding a lot of dated information. If I want a Centos 6 sendmail system act as the secondary MX for domain bbbbb.co.uk do I just add a Connect:bbbbb.co.uk RELAY statement into /etc/mail/access and restart sendmail Obviously I have the DNS MX records for the domain are

[OT] How do I convert maildir to bsmtp format?
Here's what I'm trying to do. I have a spam filtering operation as a front end for other servers. I've created a virtual server for spam storage where the user will be able to log in using squirrelmail/dovecot to review and release their spam. The email is stored in maildir format. Piecing it together I can use squirrelmail to pipe the email into something so that if a use finds a

Out of memory on lmtp vsz_limit
Hi, We've been getting these types or errors for quite a while now ... Fatal: master: service(lmtp): child 63477 returned error 83 (Out of memory (service lmtp { vsz_limit=4096 MB }, you may need to increase it) ... and these errors have been decreasing in occurrence as we increased the default_vsz_limit. Which is good but I would like to get some advice on how I could possibly eliminate

Does SMTP Connection Drop When Posfix Reload is Issued ?
Dear Community Friends Greetings, i work with ISP, we host email service for almost 500+ companies and 200+ mail servers relay through my smart host. i implemented something that when our smart host would become blacklisted. It will automatic switch to next available smart host (which is ready sitting). that mean it will start relaying message through another smart host automatically. i think i

Sendmail, mailertable and DNS weirdness.
Guys, I've had a weird problem with Sendmail misbehaving in a way I don't really understand. I've worked round the problem but I'd like to understand what was going on. The MX for one of our domains, blah.com, pointed at an internal Exchange server. Mail relayed to a Sendmail MailScanner which then delivered to Exchange for this domain. The domain expired leading to all its mail

Postfix setup
Dear All I am planning to setup mail server for my domain. Which one is preferred postfix or sendmail. I came across a link * http://ostechnix.wordpress.com/2013/02/08/setup-mail-server-using-postfixdovecotsquirrelmail-in-centosrhelscientific-linux-6-3-step-by-step/ * for postfix mail setup. It says, Prerequisites: - The mail server should contain a valid MX record in the DNS server.
