Gluster "Cheat Sheet"
Greetings,
One of the best things I've seen at conferences this year has been a bookmark distributed by the RDO folks with most common and/or useful commands for OpenStack users.
Some people at Red Hat were wondering about doing the same for Gluster, and I thought it would be a great idea. Paul Cuzner, the author of the gluster-deploy project, took a first cut, pasted below. What do you

Yes, I'm aware of that and I try to adhere where possible. However, I'm
supporting many smaller offices where 2 bare metal servers just wouldn't be
acceptable in terms of TCO but an AD is still appreciated. So at the most I

DC disaster recovery
So, I'm generally running my DC's in VM's on Xen [XCP-NG].
And I'm considering recovery from different disaster situations - say a crashed/corrupt DC. Or hardware failure.
Yes, I could run a second VM with a second DC. But unless I setup another XCP server and put the VM on that - the biggest threat to the current VM/DC is the hardware it's running on. So, it really

Disaster recovery recommendations
Greetings,
I have three drives; they are all SATA Seagate Barracudas; two are 500GB; the
third is a 2TB.
I don't have a clear reason why they have failed (possibly due to a deep,
off-brand, flakey mobo; but it's still inconclusive, but I would like to find a
disaster recovery service that can hopefully recover the data.
Much thanks for any and all suggestions,

Questions about setup
I have worked in IT for several years and programming or anything related to
this is not exactly one of my strengths. I need help creating a vesamenu..
Im trying to setup up so I can access my Acronis backup and disaster
recovery 10 server, knoppix live cd, hardware diagnostics - pcdoctor and
maybe a hiren type boot cd. I checked the Linux irc channel which I guess is
now abandoned. If anyone

[OT] DR
I remember a thread many months ago where someone asked about a disaster
recovery template or guide and several people on this list linked some
really good content. I can't seem to find that thread now and neglected
to make note of the links but I do recall that some of the guides came
from a site that had many other "industry best practices" type guides.
Any insight here or do you

Samba-4.0? (waiting to replace SBS2000 AD domain controller)
I support some organizations using Microsoft Small Business Server 2000,
with relatively simple Active Directory domains.
AFAICT, they use simple printer and server file shares for Windows 9x and
2K and XP clients, the centralized user accounts with server-mapped home
directories, and not many other features of a domain.
I want to plan a migration away from Microsoft Domain Controllers
ASAP.

Samba benefits.
Hi,
First of all, excuse me if this topic could be already posted in the past
but I can't believed on that.
I'm working for a big company which have some plants in America and
Europe.Americans plants works prevalently with MS Server while Europe plants
works on both MS and Linux-Samba.Our rightly compromise was to keep both
systems work togheter (samba domain member).

Different HostKeys for different hostnames or IPs in the same sshd?..
Hello!
Like many organizations, we have "disaster-recovery" location, where separate
servers are running ready to take up important services should the primary
location fail.
Some of the services provided involve accepting files over scp (and sftp), and
here is the problem... The primary and the secondary hosts use different
host-keys... If the hosts were accessed as

samba w/tdb recovery
Experienced a server crash on a site that's using Samba 3.01 for a PDC,
using tdb database.
I have all of the information to recover Samba properly, including unix
accounts, etc.
However, can someone point me to a resource regarding recovery of linux
user accounts and passwords?
Thanks....

Rsync takes long time to finish
Hi Friends,

I am using rsync to copy data from Production File Server to Disaster Recovery file server. I have 100Mbps link setup between these two servers. Folder structure is very deep. It is having path like /reports/folder1/date/folder2/file.tx, where we have 1600 directories like 'folder1', daily folders since last year in date folder and 2 folders for each date folder like folder2

How to manually generate a password hash
Hi folks. I've recently set up a Postfix 2.9.6/Dovecot 2.0.19 IMAPS/SMTPS setup on Ubuntu 12.04.2 (Mysql backend). I'm new to all this, so I apologize if this is fairly basic. I've attempted to the best of my ability to search for an answer, but no luck so far.
What I'm trying to do is generate a password hash that I can inject directly into my Mysql database (disaster recovery

Disaster recovery on PDC
Hi all,
I search about disaster recovery, but I can't understand how to proceed...
I perform backups on my PDC (data and configuration). My question is about secrets.tdb: according some docs, I can't install a new server and just put the secrets.tdb on samba configuration directory, because the SID it's specific. If I don't repair this file, the domain SID will be change and the

sysvol /etc /private replication/backup via git
Hello List,
we have a running (test) AD samba4 system running successful for several month. We are now trying to add more DCs to the mix
and have a proper backup/desaster recovery strategy.
Basically I wan't to adapt the samba_backup script found in the sources to backup everything via git into our repository. I understand that the best solution would be to tar everything before commit.

You could also use pacemaker to manage promoting the drbd device and
mounting it with a dead master role as a dependency. Are you using anything
to automatically promote the send slave already?

Deploying geo-replication to local peer
Hi,
I'm looking for glusterfs feature that can be used to transform data between
volumes of different types provisioned on the same nodes.
It could be, for example, transformation from disperse to distributed
volume.
The possible option is to invoke geo-replication between volumes. It seems
is works properly.
But I'm concern about requirement from Administration Guide for Red Hat
