multi-seated configuration
is anyone using a multi-seated configuration with CentOS? I'm thinking about buying a two 2 headed nvidia card to run 4 separate monitors and 4 separate keyboards and mice. I don't mind using either proprietary or opensource nvidia drivers. I'm looking for more information regarding centos and multiseated configurations. I've read a bit about fedora and ubuntu with

Thin client system for X applications?
We're looking for what, years ago, I'd describe a s a X terminal -- something small, simple (and ideally cheap) that a user could display X applications on. I guess they're now called thin clients, but they now seem geared as seats on the web, and for this application we would need to be able display the results of running a homebrewed X application from a CentOS system, either

Weird NFS problem
I have a weird NFS problem here. I am trying to set up a machine with Centos 5 on it. First time I've tried Centos, but it looks like it's going to be the real thing for some machines that I look after that are intended to be long-term "just works" application servers. I plan to start reading and participating in this mailing list now, so Hello to everyone! My name is Frank

Squirrel 1.4.8-8.el3.centos.1
Hi, Last tuesday I upgraded squirrelmail on two centos-3 mailservers. squirrelmail-1.4.8-8.el3.centos.1, 2.4.21-58.ELsmp, CentOS release 3.9, httpd 2.0.46 Since then I have some users who have problems with their sessions. They are logout out every now and them, and some sent mails have another user address in the From header. It looks like squirrel is mixing up sessions? Those users have used

Silly question x64 vs i386
I have a really silly question... but just want to ask... I have one box on my home network that is x86_64 capable... My other boxes are all i386. As this x86_64 machine can, at most, house 4 GB of RAM (currently only has 1 GB) - is there any advantage to my running x86_64 on that machine instead of i386... Long story as to why I am asking - but before I go off and moveit down to i386 -

Problem with automatic mounting of disc drive (Ubuntu 11.10)
Hi! First of all, WINE is great! There is only one little inconvenience for me: I am using WINE 1.2 under Ubuntu 11.10. It automatically mounts CDs and DVDs at /media/(disc name). So whenever I insert a new disc, I have to change the configuration of WINE which is a bit annoying. I could not find any help via Google. On ubuntuforum.org I was told to point WINE to the device itself (/dev/sr0)

SSD as system drive - partitioning question
I mentioned here the other day that I was planning to set up a Centos 6 system using a SSD for the system drive and a regular hard drive for a data drive. My plan is to have everything that doesn't change (much) on the SSD, such as /boot, /lib, /bin and so on. I want to put /tmp and /var and /home on the regular hard drive. Now that I'm at the stage of actually setting this up I have

Multi-Seat using Thin Clients
Hello I have been wanting to set up a multi-seat system built around my linux desktop. Several years ago I set up a multi-seat system using X11. It difficult to setup and cause many different system errors. My new desktop supports VT-d but the VGA passthru is still too experimental for me at this point. I have looked at the USB display link but sounds like there is a performance issue with

ip range cidr calculator
I found a command-line program that did this once before, used it for a while and then forgot about it until right now and I'll be damned if I can find it again. A command line IP calculator that takes an address range and give it back in cidr format. I found an online one that does this here: http://www.ipaddresslocation.org/subnet-mask-calculator.php But I would prefer to have the

survval analysis microarray expression data
For any given pre-specified gene or short list of genes, yes the Cox model works fine. Two important caveats: 1. Remeber the rule of thumb for a Cox model of 20 events per variable (not n=20). Many microarray studies will have very marginal sample size. 2. If you are looking at many genes then a completely different strategy is required. There is a large and growing literature; I like Newton

Winbind: can't log in as domain user
Sorry about the lengthy post - I'm putting as much in here as I can in hopes that someone can help me ferret out the problem. Basic problem is that domain users can't successfully log into the linux box. I'm trying to set this box up as an ltsp server authenticating against our existing AD (although this is actually in a test lab - I didn't really want to trash anything real

Samsung M800
I have a Samsung M800 phone that I had (wrongly) assumed would show up as a USB drive on Linux so I can transfer files to it and so on. Instead, it appears to present itself as a modem. Intel i7-940, DX58S0 motherboard, Radeon X1950 Pro video card
This computer is my main desktop machine --- an Intel i7-940 CPU and DX58S0 motherboard with a Radeon X1950 Pro video card. It's currently running Fedora 11 and working just fine. However, I have been slowly moving all of my "computer stuff" off of Fedora and onto Centos, and this (and my Acer Aspire One laptop) are the only Fedora installations that I now have left. Does anyone

rpmfusion status?
Unless I've missed something (which is possible) there hasn't been any "public progress announcements" regarding rpmfusion in the past several weeks. Is there anything new to report? My ulterior motive is that I would love to have the convenience of a one-stop rpm shop for Centos/RHEL and Fedora, and it's my understanding that's what rpmfusion is intended to be... --

ltsp kernel crash
Hi, I've been using pxe-enabled nic's with an lzpxe-etherboot image generated by rom-o-matic.net to boot a ltsp.org kernel, with dhcp 3 to use if statements to determine which filename option he gives to the pxe/etherboot dhcp client.Explained at http://www.ltsp.org/documentation/pxe.howto.html This works perfectly, except for the fact that you can't use 1 etherboot pxe image for
