Compiling PHP and MySQL
Hi everyone, I need to install an older version of PHP - 5.2.16, which is not currently available through an official CentOS repo (as far as I can tell). In order to fulfill our developer's requirements, I've decided to just compile PHP and MySql from the source. Is there a way to find out what are the usual configure options that are used to compile binaries that are available through

Hyper-V template configuration
Hi everyone, I've installed CentOS 5 on Hyper-V and finally got everything working. I would like to setup a template, but google is failing me. Everything I read does not seem very promising when it comes to templates support with MS Hyper-V. I was wondering if maybe someone here has successfully configured CentOS templates? I realize that VmWare is a lot better, but it's not a

libz.so.1 => not found
Hello, We have an older AFS server, which was running Centos 5.5. It hasn't been updated in a while because of the plans to move it to another server, but it never happened. Thus, we've decided to upgrade it to 5.7? I did yum clean all and yum update. Everything ran smoothly and no issues. After the reboot, zlib.so.1 can no longer be found. /usr/lib64/zlib.so.1 is a symbolic link

Hyper V integration question
Hello everyone, I have Hyper V integration working properly, but needed to do an update to 2.6.18-274.12.1.el5-x86_64. Since then, it no longer works. As discovered previously, one needs to rebuild Hyper V Integration tools due to the kernel panic. http://www.sudonym.com/398/kernel-panic-after-yum-update-centos-with-hyper-v-linux-integration-components Done. But I'm getting an error

Setting up persistent LUNs
Hello everyone, I am trying to setup persistent LUNs and having problems. I've been following instructions I found on the web and they refer to editing /etc/scsi_id.config file and adding options=-g line there. After doing so, I should be able to run scsi_id -g -s /dev/sd* and get proper results. I've modified file /etc/scsi_id.config appropriately: [root at psrwjmsafs1 etc]# grep

Help! Looking for the smbmount-nomtab.patch and smbmount-mtab-flags.patch
I have cross-compiled smbmount(smbmnt, smbclient) using samba-3.0.24.tar.gz, then ported them to an ARM Arch machine whose /etc directory is read only. The smbmount command always results in errors """Can't get /etc/mtab~ lock filesmbmnt failed: 1""" Someone says that If we rebuild samba with the smbmount-nomtab.patch and smbmount-mtab-flags.patch, it would work

Journal Aborts in VMware ESX (Filesystem Corruption)
I have several CentOS5 hosts in a VMware ESX 3.5.0 226117 environment using iSCSI storage. Recently we've begun to experience journal aborts resulting in remounted-read-only filesystems as well as other filesystem issues - I can unmount a filesystem and force a check with "fsck -f" and occasionally find errors. I've found -

smbmnt and disabling mtab update
Hi, I'm trying to run smbmount on a machine with the root filesystem mounted as read only (it is a little embedded Linux PC which I want to pick up some files from its controlling NT box). The problem is that smbmnt doesn't appear to support the -n flag that normal mount supports which avoids accessing /etc/mtab. Can any one suggest any solutions to this ? Dave

2 root disks sdb1,sdc1; if set "root=/dev/sdc1", mtab lies saying sdb1 is root!?
I have 2 SCSI disks each w/a RH 7.3 ext3 root filesystem: /dev/sdb1, and /dev/sdc1. /dev/sda1 is an old RH4.2 root filesystem. (sdb1 was created as an image of sdc1 using dd.) I have no problem booting from a SYSLINUX 1.52 floppy with SYSLINUX.CFG containing "append initrd=initrd.img root=/dev/sdb1". When I alter SYSLINUX.CFG with: "append initrd=initrd.img root=/dev/sdc1".

Very high system load: Samba statfs call for filesystems in /etc/mtab in: fileid_load_mount_entries()
Hello, we recently had a big problem with a very high load on our linux (Sles11 SP3) samba server version 3.6.3. We experienced a system load of up to 90 for 300 active samba users. The result was that hardly any user was able to really do anything (eg access a file via samba). One sympton was visible in a very high share of cpu *system* time (about 25% on each of the 10 CPUs). This system load

Ext3 - Frequent read-only FS issues
Hi all, I have a bunch of mail servers running postfix (external smtp), qmail (LDA) and courier IMAP/POP. Frequently, Ext3 filesystem goes into read-only mode forcing recovery using fsck. Below are the errors we have seen so far on these systems and those systems config. The ext3 errors are common in many cases. 1. hm ...
About two weeks ago i was whining about an inode that got lost, now i'm going to whine more about strange things happening here. A matroxfb just oopsed on me (thats not strange), the machine got unusuable, so i logged in from another and got the idea to touch /forcefsck. Upon reboot, fsck said that some inodes are in use but have dtime set and that some files are illegal sockets. Now this

oops 2.2.19 ext3 0.0.6b prune_dcache
Hi, i am seeing an oops (every couple of days) on a UP PII system with SCSI disks, Kernel 2.2.19 and ext3 0.0.6b. All oops output passed the klogd thus i cant anymore pipe it through ksymoops - I ensured klogd got the correct System.map so the result should be reliable.
