Migrating samba domain to new computer.
Should have read this first: http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/upgrades.html#id2600749 Problem is I did it the wrong way on a few production systems. Odds are this is the second time I did it wrong. Running Debian Lenny using smbldap. It mostly works. Existing members of the domain are working OK. The first thing that got my attention is was not able to join a new xp workstation to

smbpasswd + ldap questions
I would like to have sync'd Unix and Samba passwords. My Unix passwords are stored in OpenLDAP for uniformity across machines and services. I have some problems with the standard solutions to this problem though: * if I have Samba authenticate from OpenLDAP directly (using the smbPassword attribute), then I get sync'ing problems when the password is changed via normal Unix means. Migration to samba4 ad and sync to openldap.
Christian Thanks for the information. Also thanks to mj. That's sounds promising How did you migrate your data? Did you need to add any schema to samba4 ad? Were in 5 cities and some of the Internet is not 100% reliable. Will need samba4 in each office to make sure they can log in even if the Internet is down. How reliable is the the ad syncing? Does it need a lot of bandwidth? One of the

Migration to samba4 ad and sync to openldap.
I managed to do migration using "classicupgrade". Doing tests with debian buster 2:4.9.4+dfsg-4. For the moment using samba internal dns and sub-domain of ad.advocap.org. Had issue forwarding dns if I used main domain. When it comes to real production will use bind that I understand better but don't want to mess with my other dns servers now. Had a w10 box join samba4 ad

I'm open to alternatives but need to be up and running 24/7 on the linux side. My boss hates windows more than I do and will likely be looking for a new job if I use windows to administer the the linux side. We only use windows if there is no other way do do something. Samba4.2rc4 with winbindd in config cannot start samba process
Hi all, I have tried to migrate a domain from Samba3 to Samba4 Ad and now using samba RC4. Referring to release note document, I should use winbindd instead of winbind. However, I cannot start samba4 daemon when using winbindd parameters, but can start using winbind parameters. Would you please help. Thanks. Below is the current config file: [global] # workgroup = NT-Domain-Name or

Migration to samba4 ad and sync to openldap.
We also moved from Samba3/ldap to AD. On the servers we also only use Linux. We had no problem with the move. our mailserver is also cyrus with postfix and also SOGo. Everything works no problems at all. The migration needs to be planned carefully but it is worth the effort. You can still use lam with AD we also use it. Regards Christian Am 19. Routing for multiple uplinks/providers problem.
Been running this for quite a while and noticed that have intermittent problems getting out. Find that if I ping the same site from 2 computers it may work on one and fail on the other. Also was surprised that some time they are going out different interfaces at the same time. Seems to work all the time from the firewall. Running 2.6.10 kernel with the multipath routing patches on a debian

Problem with routing 2 isps with 2.6.15 kernel
Doing routing based on this: http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.rpdb.multiple-links.html Have done it for over a year. Tried a new 2.6.15 kernel. Firewall is based on debian sarge. Most things work ok dnat snat etc. Can simultaneous ssh in to an internal host via both isps with no problems. At the moment the default route is via eth2. root@fonroute:~# ip rule 0: from all lookup local 200:

Migration to samba4 ad and sync to openldap.
We are currently running samba3 nt4 domain controllers using smb-ldap-tools. We want to convert to samba4 ad so we can run new versions of windows server. I know of: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Migrating_a_Samba_NT4_Domain_to_Samba_AD_(Classic_Upgrade) But that would break us by moving all ldap to the ad ldap. We have lot's of stuff in ldap. Currently administer using ldap account

Files moved around
I have run into a problem where someone is moving files around on one of the file servers. We found the files and then one of the users moved the files back to the correct place, but the part which scared me is that I can't tell who moved the files around. What settings do I need to have set up for logging so that if this happens in the future I can find out who is doing this. Currently

No /dev/tty device within LXC guest?
Hi all, When I create a LXC guest(RHEL5.4) via libvirt, the guest could boot successfully. I could ping to guest, but can not ssh into the it. The secure log in the guest shows that this is due to lack of '/dev/tty' device: # tail /path/to/rootfs/of/container/var/log/secure Jul 27 04:25:25 xen2143v sshd[671]: Accepted password for zhangyufang from 10.0.0.1 port 34102 ssh2 Jul 27 04:25:25
