C:\ doesn't save
Hello, I edited the path to my drive_c because it wasn't working right. After I clicked Ok, it erased the fake C:\ in winecfg, but the drive_c folder is still there. Everytime I try to enter it back in, it erases. I also get these errors when I try to use wine: [root@localhost ~]# winecfg Warning: the specified Windows directory L"c:\\windows" is not accessible. Drive Designation
I keep reading on this list where drive C: is referred to as "~/.wine/drive_c" but on my system (due to no special smarts on my part that would be "~/.wine/dosdevices/c:" instead. Why this difference? Are the ones who post basing their operation on an older way of doing things? The ability to use "c:" rather than "drive_c" seems nicer IMNSHO. FWIW,

New user
Hi all, i'm a new user of wine and i have some doubts. First i'm using wine with gentoo. I read in the wine web some info about the config file that wine uses, but in the gentoo ebuild no sample file is installed, or i haven't found it. Even more it seems that the winecfg application is used to configure wine, but it seems to not be finished and uses the registry files in ~/.wine to

Help with Wine and running exe w/ possible malware?
An exe file that I want to run on linux made for windows comes up as a Trojan on VirusTotal - how would I run it without it affecting my system? Is there any way that I can run this program on my Linux system without possibly getting a virus? Other people have told me that it would affect your wine prefix located normally inside ~/.wine and that any program running inside a wine prefix has only

Unhandled exception launching games from Steam
So after years of running a 'pure' Linux machine, I finally decided to install Wine so I could play some of my old games - and it's been a disaster. Using either Wine 1.5.3 or 1.3.3 trying to launch Half-Life Source results in nothing happening, trying to launch from the commandline gives this stack trace: Code: wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address

Program won't load fonts when run outside of installed dir
I'm trying get a couple pieces of software we use at work so we can replace a bunch of aging Windows machines with Linux boxes, but I'm having a little trouble. I'll start with the potentially easiest problem first. One of the programs I'm trying to use is Lightspeed Virtual Terminal. It runs fairly well with just a couple of glitches.
