question about software Raid 1
Does software raid 1 compare checksums or otherwise verify that the same
bits are coming from both disks during reads? What I'm interested in,
is whether bit errors that were somehow undetected by the hardware would
be detected by the raid 1 software.
Thanks,
Nataraj

a VNC client suitable to monitor 15 desktops in 1 screen, automatic reconnect. Exists?
Hello,
Is there a VNC client out there that can permit me to run it 15 times
simultaneously and scale them smaller so that I can view 15 little
remote screens (at the same time) in my one big monitor?
Also, is there a way to make it so if the PC is rebooted the client
automatically reconnects ?
The goal of this is to have one big monitor to view in realtime what
people are doing in their PCs.

update.packages() is broken?
Folks,
I am using R 2.1.1 on Apple OS X 10.3.
Earlier, I used to say
$ sudo R
> update.packages()
and all the packages used to get installed.
For several weeks, I noticed that nothing has been coming through. I
used the R-for-Mac graphics console and I find that there are many
packages where new versions have come out which I don't have. Is
something wrong with update.packages()?

Make Raid1 2nd disk bootable?
On earlier versions of Centos, I could boot the install CD in rescue
mode, let it find and mount the installed system on the HD even when it
was just one disk of RAID1 partitions (type=FD). When booting from the
centos5 disk the attempt find the system gives a box that says 'You
don't have any Linux partitions'. At the bottom of the screen there is
something that says:

Centos Guys: Any estimate of recent torrent savings?
Just wondering if the community has any stats available from the tracker
showing savings from torrent (up|down)loads. I'm seeing *lots* of
activity on the live CD. Between that and the two CentOS releases I'm
sharing (4 DVD & 1-4, 5 DVD & 1-6) my current session has sent out about
20.3GB.
Since I started using it regularly, I think I've sent >= 0.4TB.
If some really good

Yum messages: /usr/lib/liblzo.so.1 is not a symbolic link
Ran yum update this A.M. Got this. Is it a problem for rpmforge, CentOS
or just me? Maybe not a problem at all?
/etc/ld.so.conf.d files are "box stock", so there were no clues there.
TIA for any insight.

No DVD Mirrors - Only Torrent
I love Centos. Have in on my data centre servers, my home servers, my
laptop and my netbook. Yes there are serious and continuing security
concerns relating to Gnome and KDE but they are not Centos.
Currently running 5.6 and would like a two set DVD of that version.
However none of the mirrors offer pure DVDs only Torrent versions which
involve the possibility of bits being tampered with and

Down C6 ALL without torrent ?
Hi,
I have a machine with a BIOS that does not permit DVD installation. It
accepts everything else including some old superseded media types.
Is it possible to download C6 combined parts 1 and 2 not using Torrent ?
I have an aversion to using anything that comes from unknown sources, as
used by Torrent.
Thank you.

Torrent tracker for CentOS v5.3 working properly?
Hi,
Is the tracker for the 5.3-release working properly?
The only torrent I see actually downloading is CentOS-5.3-i386-bin-1to6. The
other three for the i386 DVD and ditto for x86_64 (cd+dvd) are just sitting
there. The availability and the number of connected peers in the swarm for
each torrent is rather high though.
Do torrent downloads work from a single tracker at centos.org, or are those

CentOS-4.4 update: don't forget those rpmsave and rpmnew files folks!
After you do your update, done forget to do updatedb, makewhatis, ...
The locate for rpmnew has a couple items of interest and the locate for
rpmsave returns one that occupies 24MB of your precious disks -
/var/lib/Pegasus/prev-repository*.
It compresses nicely to appx. 1MB, cpio bzipped --best.
Change in your rndc key too, for DNS.

using tc on xen
Hi Everyone!
My knowledge of tc is very much limited and i got introduced to it by my
need for traffic limiting on xen based VM''s. For every VM there is a
interface. The network is a bridged network.
Has any one tried out something like this ?
I tried the below script to limit download on an interface however it didn''t
seem to work. Still the interface is able to download at

CentOS 6.0 i386 DVD
Anybody have tricks to write the i386 ISO image to DVD?
I've tried DVD+-RW, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD-R in both Windows 7 (two
different writers) and rebooted into CentOS 6 (x86_64) and tried
cdrecord (now called wodim). On wodim I've tried overburn, reducing
speeds, etc.
All give the same results: the same number of bytes are written -
indicating the disc is full (according to my calculations)

Zimbra on CentOS4.3 x86_64.
Alle,
Has anyone gotten Zimbra to work on an installation of CentOS4.3,
x86_64 architecture?
I have tried to install the RHEL4 3.1.4 32-bit version with the
following error:
Found zimbra-core
Error: attempting to install i386 packages on a x86_64 OS.
Exiting...
Shouldn't this work with 32-bit compat? I've also tried to install
RHEL4_64 4.0.0.RC1 but post installation fails when
