Extracting mbox format from Dovecot IMAP (mdbox)
Hi,
I'm looking for a quick tool that can connect to my IMAP account grab
all the messages in a particular folder and dump them to a mbox format file?
Anyone know a quick easy tool to do that?
This is a spam folder that I'd like to do some Bayes spam learning on,
but since I've migrated to mdbox I don't think I can do this directly on
the mailbox.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Outlook 2010 very slow when using IMAP - are there any tweaks?
Hi,
though this is a bit of a side question, has anybody had an issue
while running Outlook 2010 with Dovecot?
The reason why I am asking is that I have setup a Dovecot 2.1.7 server
on FreeBSD which works fantastically with Thunderbird but Outlook
seems to be twice as slow in transferring information across??
# dovecot -n
# 2.1.7: /usr/local/etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf
# OS: FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE

Missing mailboxes after migration from Maildir -> mdbox
I migrated from existing dovecot Maildir to dbox.
After adding separator to the namespace it migrated all Inbox mails, but
the other mailboxes like user-created ones and "Junk", "Sent" and so on
has not been migrated.
Any advice would be helpful, here is my dovconf:

POP3 UIDLs with virtual INBOX and migration from maildir->mdbox
Hi,
Considering the scenario, where you have some old account with a
different POP3 UIDL format and you migrate them to dovecot.
So these old UIDLs would be saved to dovecot-uidlist.
At some later time you want to introduce a virtual POP3 INBOX like
described on:
http://wiki.dovecot.org/Plugins/Virtual
So you decide to make the new UIDL format "%f" - to make them unique

Migrate from Maildir to mdbox
Looking at http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Migration/MailFormat, I do not see much
on how to do a migration from Maildir to mdbox. That page isn't quite
updated it looks.
I have several domains (virtual) with the following storage layout:
/var/spool/virtual/$domain.
So the users have their mail stored as follows:
/var/spool/virtual/domain1/$user/Maildir
/var/spool/virtual/domain2/$user/Maildir

questions about maildir to mdbox migration
Hi folks! I converted some of the spools on my mail server from
maildir to mdbox. It went smoothly and the performance has been great.
However, I have two questions regarding the process.
First, I failed to notice the fairly low default mdbox_rotate_size,
and I changed it in dovecot.conf after the migration. Is it possible to
somehow make that change retroactive, to coalesce the couple

Hello list,
im am trying to migrate customer mails via dsync from an old dovecot 1.1 setup to an new installed dovecot 2.2.25 setup with mdbox.
Upgrading the old dovecot 1.1 to 2.2 with Maildir isnt an problem and the replication to the new setup works well too.
The only problem now is, that the POP3 UIDL are completely wrong on the target setup.
Im using for Maildir pop3_uidl_format = %f

migrate Maildir to mdbox
Silly question?
Which is preferred? MailDir or Mbox? (directory vs flat file)
How would you do this when migrating from an old server to a new one?
Thx

maildir vs mdbox
Hi,
I am planning on running on test between maildir and mdbox to see which is
a better fit for my use case. And I'm just looking for general
advice/recommendation. I will post any results I obtain here.
Important question: I have multiple users hitting the same email account at
the same time. Can be a problem with mdbox? (either via thunderbird or with
custom webmail apps). I remember

Maildir to mdbox conersion size issue
Hello,
I have issue with dovecot 2.2.13
I want to change all Maildirs to mdbox format and I do it per partes, so
I change mail_location for user (in sql), than I use doveadm sync -u
user path_to_maildir and everything works mostly fine.
But now I found that when I migrate quite huge Maildir (about 24G of
mails) to mdbox, after sync the final mdbox is twice as big as source
Maildir (48GB). I

migrate Maildir to mdbox
Hi,
I replaced HDDs in my home server and reinstalled the OS (Ubuntu
17.04). Since I had some time I reviewed my Dovecot configuration and
changed a couple of things, including mailbox format.
Now I would like to migrate e-mail (about 20G -- I use this server as an
e-mail archive). The Maildir is available on the (old) hard disk. The
new dovecot is running. What should I use? Would mbsync work?

Problems Converting Maildir to mdbox
Hello,
I would like to convert all users mail from maildir to mdbox. My Dovecot
version is 2.0.1, converted from 1.2.13 but config was rewritten from

http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Migration/MailFormat says following:

OpenLDAP migration from Centos 5 to 6
I'm moving my home network server from a Dell server,
which has been having some mysterious problems,
to an HP MicroServer.
Everything - MySQL, OpenVPN, email (dovecot), httpd, etc -
except for openLDAP, which is taking more time
than everything else put together.
I haven't found any straightforward instructions
on this anywhere.

dsync convert Maildir -> mdbox, separators in subscriptions file
Hello,
I'm playing around with Dovecot 2.0 beta 4.
If I use dsync to convert a users mail stored in Maildir format to mdbox format, the subscriptions file in the new mdbox is created using the wrong mailbox separator ('.') leading to folders within folders not being readable by clients using the subscription feature.

from the "testing-auto/dovecot-2.2" repository on xi.rename-it.nl)
running on a brand-new Ubuntu 12.04.2 server.
I'm trying to configure Dovecot (using the "mdbox" mailbox format) to
allow folders to contain both messages and sub-folders. However, it's
not working consistently.

Great time savings backing a mdbox versus Maildir
Hello
I am writing to this mailing list to thanks Timo for dovecot 2 &
mdbox. We have almost 30.000 active users and our life was sad with
Maildir & backup: 24 hours for a full backup with bacula (zlib enabled
maildirs, 1.4 TB). After switching to mdbox, the backup time is under 12
hours ! Instead of backing 17 millions files, with mdbox our backup is
only of 1 million files,
