Problem with range()
Hello,
I'm using range do define boundaries for a linear model, so the line I
graph is only graphed for the range of data. There are NAs in the
data, but I dont remember this being a problem before. I typed
na.action=na.omit anyway, which has usually solved any NA issues in
the past. Any idea why R cant do vector functions for these data?
Solution?
Thanks,

R2jags update, jags.parallel
Anyone used jags.parallel in latest version of R2jags?
Ubuntu Oneiric, just ran updates in R to get latest R2jags package which
supposedly has added jags.parallel command to send chains to multiple
cores ... but when I submit, I get:
test <- jags.parallel(d, inits, param, model.file="rats.bug",
n.chains=3, n.iter=2000)

mgcv:gamm: predict to reflect random s() effects?
Dear useRs,
I am using the gamm function in the mgcv package to model a smooth relationship between a covariate and my dependent variable, while allowing for quantification of the subjectwise variability in the smooths. What I would like to do is to make subjectwise predictions for plotting purposes which account for the random smooth components of the fit.
An example. (sessionInfo() is at

rpart for CART with weights/priors
Hi,
I have a technical question about rpart:
according to Breiman et al. 1984, different costs for misclassification in
CART can be modelled
either by means of modifying the loss matrix or by means of using different
prior probabilities for the classes,
which again should have the same effect as using different weights for the
response classes.
What I tried was this:

anova.lme error
Hi,
I am working with R version 2.1.0, and I seem to have run into what looks
like a bug. I get the same error message when I run R on Windows as well as
when I run it on Linux.
When I call anova to do a LR test from inside a function, I get an error.
The same call works outside of a function. It appears to not find the right
environment when called from inside a function. I have provided

survreg() with frailty
Dear R-users,
I have noticed small discrepencies in the reported estimate of the
variance of the frailty by the print method for survreg() and the
'theta' component included in the object fit:

# discrepancy
fit1 <- survreg(Surv(time, status) ~ rx + frailty(litter), rats)

coxreg vs coxph: time-dependent treatment
Dear List,
After including cluster() option the coxreg (from eha package)
produces results slightly different than that of coxph (from survival)
in the following time-dependent treatment effect calculation (example
is used just to make the point). Will appreciate any explaination /
comment.
cheers,
Ehsan

Submission from: (NULL) (141.34.5.241)
I observed one case where nls failed to return the correlation matrix, while the
parameter estimates were computed correctly. In the follwing I include all the
commands leading to this problem. R was started with 'R --vanilla':

Comparing nonlinear, non-nested models
Dear R users,
Could somebody please help me to find a way of comparing nonlinear, non-nested
models in R, where the number of parameters is not necessarily different? Here
is a sample (growth rates, y, as a function of internal substrate
concentration, x):

Unexpected behaviour in rms::lrtest
Hello.
One of my teaching assistants was experimenting and encountered
unexpected behaviour with the lrtest function in the rms package. It
appears that when you have a pair of non-nested models that employ an
RCS, the error checking for non-nested models appears not to work.
Here is a reproducible example.
