rgl: draw multiple ellipsoids
Dear list, I'm trying to visualise some ellipsoidal shapes in 3D. Their position, axes, and angular orientation can be arbitrary. I saw an ellipse3d function in rgl; however it is heavily oriented towards the statistical concept of ellipse of confidence, whilst I am just concerned with the geometrical object. Below is my current implementation. It is quite slow when creating many shapes, so

Mapping UIDs on Linux to same UID as AD-bound Mac is mapping to
Hi all I have a Linux machine bound to AD, and a Mac bound to AD. Both have me log in with different UIDs for the same AD user. This makes sense, as AD doesn't have a UNIX-compliant uid/gid attribute. One thing I have found that interests me is this: https://books.google.com.au/books?id=yNILCwAAQBAJ

Concentration ellipsoid
Hi all, Can anyone please guide me how to draw a Concentration ellipsoid for a bivariate system with a bivariate normal dist. having a VCV matrix : Sigma <- matrix(c(1,2,2,5), 2, 2) I would like to draw in using GGPLOT. Your help will be highly appreciated. Thanks, -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Concentration-ellipsoid-tp25315705p25315705.html Sent from the R help

How to plot a 3D ellipsoid in R?
Hey, all I am going to plot several 3-dimensional ellipsoids in R. For example, A is such a ellipsoid with mean u=[1 1 1]', covariance matrix C=[1 0 .5;0 1 .6;.5 .6 1]; So how can I plot such object in 3D space? Is there some function to achieve this? Thanks. Fred

3-D ellipsoid equations
+ Hello, The parametric equations of an ellipsoid can be written in terms of spherical coordinates. The three spherical coordinates are converted to Cartesian coordinates by X=a cos (α) sin(θ) Y=b sin(α) sin(θ) Z=c cos(θ) for α and θ The parameter α varies from 0 to 2 π and θ varies from 0 to π . Here ( X o , Y o ,Z o ) is the center of the ellipsoid, and θ is the angle

Minimum Volume Ellipsoid Estimator ("cov.mve"??)
Dear All, The Minimum Volume Ellipsoid estimator ("cov.mve") was part of S+ but I cannot find it in R. Where can I find it? Why was it excluded? Cheers, Patrik Sweden

random uniform sample of points on an ellipsoid (e.g. WGS84)
I am interested in making a random sample from a uniform distribution of points over the surface of the earth, using the WGS84 ellipsoid as a model for the earth. I know how to do this for a sphere, but would like to do better. I can supply random numbers, want latitude longitude pairs out. Can anyone point me at a solution? Thanks very much. -- Russell Senior ``I have nine fingers;

3D ellipsoid confidence region
I am curious if there is code developed to plot confidence regions in 3D. The scatterplot3d function generates the plot I want, but would like an 3D equivalent to the data.ellipse function. Any help in this direction would be appreciated, be it theoretical, graphical, or otherwise. which points within an ellipsoid? Sorting data in 3d
Hello, in a three dimensional coordinate system, I'd like to find all my experimental data points that fall within an ellipsoid around a fixed coordinate. The fixed point is defined by (x.coord.point, y.coord.point, z.coord.point). The coordinates of the ellipsoid are given by the three vectors x,y,z. In a previous version of my code, I simply used a box instead of an ellipsoid to sort

rgl: ellipse3d with axes
Last week I asked about data ellipses with rgl:::ellipse3d() with lines showing the principal axes. (The goal is a visual demonstration of PCA as a rotation of variable space to component space.) I was trying, unsuccessfully, to use princomp() to generate the PCA axes and plot them using segments3d: > > PC <- princomp(trees) > > sdev <- PC$sdev # component standard

rgl: plot3d and ellipse3d
Hi I'm trying to make a 3d plot showing a point cloud, the corresponding data ellipse and the principal axes of the ellipse as vectors. library(rgl) data(trees) cov <- cov(trees) mu <- mean(trees) plot3d(trees, type="s", size=0.5, col="blue", cex=2) In this step, an extra box is added. I've tried using box=FALSE, but it has no effect. # how to avoid the

rgl.postscript() failure when saving a scene
Dear all, I write to the community to know if other people expierenced the same problem. I want to save a rgl scene where I plotted a 3d cloud of spheres whose radius is set proportional to a given variable and coloured by another group variable and with 95% ellipsoids for distribution of any group. I had no problem at all for coding but I had two problem when saving the scene (in any format)

scatter3d: problem with spheres-color
Dear List, I don't get scatter3d to color the sheres according to the '|' argument. library(car) scatter3d(prestige ~ income + education|type, data=Prestige) The spheres on my screen are all colored the same and they are not conditional on Prestige$type. On the other hand: Fit3d and Ellipse3d are colored according to the group argument. rgl_0.92.879 car_2.0-12 R version 2.15.0

Programming puzzle...
Dear R guru's, I'd like to sort the columns of a matrix according to the elements in the first row, and in case of a tie according to the second row, etc. In case of a 3xn matrix woppa, something like colorder _ order(woppa[1,], woppa[2,], woppa[3,]) I just cannot seem to find a way to do this for a variable number of rows, e.g. if woppa has 10 or 15 rows I now manually cut and paste to
