binding to privileged ports
Apologies if this is a FAQ; I couldn't find an answer on openssh.com or
the mailing list archive....
Commercial SSH (I looked at 1.2.30) allocates privileged ports by counting
/downwards/ from 1023, so that it will obtain a socket with (roughly
speaking) the highest available privileged port number. This also appears
to be the behaviour of rsh et al:

[LLVMdev] Building pass out of source with cmake: undefined symbol error
Ah! Think I figured it out -- it's rtti. When I build with -fno-rtti, the spurious symbol disappears. Blargh, that was complicated. I'm going to try an out-of-source cmake build now. So far this has been a soliloquy, hope it helps someone else.

[LLVMdev] Building pass out of source with cmake: undefined symbol error
Still no go. I'm going to experiment building out of source manually with the cmake build and autotools build. I should've mentioned that I'm attempting this with the hello world pass example.

[LLVMdev] Building pass out of source with cmake: undefined symbol error
Hmmm, I just thought of something. Perhaps I need to set the MODULE cmake flag (via -DMODULE=ON)? I will try this today. (I remembered the LOADABLE_MODULE=1 flag in the makefile, and the if ( MODULE ) check in the AddLLVM cmake module.)

A couple of patches....
I have made available three patches for OpenSSH
2.5.1p1 (and 2.3.0p1), two of which may be of
general interest.
They are described in detail at
http://www.ex-parrot.com/~chris/openssh-patches/
but a brief description--
http://www.ex-parrot.com/~chris/openssh-patches/openssh-2.5.1p1-keepalives.patch
modifies the code in clientloop.c to
periodically send a null packet as a keepalive;

u32 filter question
Hi guys I have a config as follows for one of my networks. I want to give the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/xx network 64kbit for everything from the internet but 8000kbit from our internal servers on yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy/yy network. It does not work. I only want to use u32 filters. I think what's happening is the first flowid of 1:21 is catching them and not getting to the 1:40 flowid. Is this right? The box

Compile Samba for Windows Use - SMBClient.exe mainly
I just wanted to give everyone a update. I was able to compile the smbclient.exe file successfully using Samba 3.6.25. Compiling the entire suite fails but all I was after was the client. I referenced back to an old post here https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2007-September/055557.html that had instructions on compiling on Windows. Used it as a rough guide. Long story short:

Problems with DOS printing from W2K on Samba
I have setup a W2K client that uses a SuSE8.0 samba 2.2.5 server on the network.
Samba is setup to use CUPS and as long as I print from W2K itself, there is no problems
at all. It I try to copy a text file to a printer on the Samba server e.i. cp file \\lserver1\HP4000T
nothing comes out of the printer and the following error message is written to
/var/log/samba/log.smbd:

help with authentication - cpanel
I am trying to install dovecot as a second pop3 service in my RH9 system.
It is a Cpanel based system using Courier for primary IP
By primary I mean all the other domains use courier on xxx.xxx.xxx.21 port

I have a domain with special pop3 needs that is dedicated to xxx.xxx.xxx.22
port 110
The two mail systems are installed, I can tell via telenet that dovecot is

My W2k client generates internal errors / panic in samba ?
I have a small site running Samba 2.2.8a from SuSE and I started wonder about the "stability"
of Samba running with W2K clients, when I installed W2k on a machine that previous ran Win.98
without any problems.
After the W2K installation's had been finished (with all security fixes, new drivers etc.) I noticed
that when accessing shares on the samba server, Samba began generating

Compile Samba for Windows Use - SMBClient.exe mainly
The user for the site, and conversely php, is running as a application pool in IIS specifically for the site and as such only exists on that box. The nice thing about using the samba client, if I can get it to work, is you can pass through the user credentials of the logged-in user. So security-wise it's a lot easier to maintain as users would have access to the same things they already do on

[LLVMdev] VMkit AOT build problem: llc crushed on glibj compilation to native(.s) file
Well, I think there is a bug in vmkit for always trying to do pointer
arithmetic using i32 instead of the target's pointer size, which is
what my patch addressed.
As for whether there is a bug in LLVM, I'm not sure. I've played
around with it some more, and it looks like zext expressions get
constant folded before reaching LowerConstant. The only way I've
triggered the

Fast way of finding top-n values of a long vector

finding the top-n values of x?
Some suggestions (calculating the ratio of the two top values):

set.seed(1); x <- runif(1e6, max=1e7); x[1] <- NA;
