Dear Experts I have been unsuccessful getting the sound to work on a HP Mobile Workstation HP 8540w. Here's a brief rundown of where I am I did a clean new install of Centos 5.6 from DVD, using the Gnome Desktop option and no optional modules. I enabled the firewall, but disabled SELINUX. KVM/NAT help requested
Dear Linux Gurus I'm having problems with KVM and networking. My guest cannot use NAT through the host's connection. This is what I've done: I installed a new version of Centos 6.5 on the hardware. Starting with a Net-Install, I selected the Virtual Hosting, and later added "Desktop". I ran "yum update" with some reboots until nothing needed updating. The

Problem installing 6.3 on HP8540w laptop
Folks Just for laughs, I tried installing Centos 6.3 on the laptop HP 8540w. Windows 7 installed earlier, but I had to import a driver for the Ethernet controller since it was not supported on the distribution DVD of Windows7. The Centos installation I chose was the "NetInstall". The installation process identified eth0, I selected IPV4 DHCP, disabled IPV6, and successfully

Add new host to /etc/libvirt/qemu/networks/default.xml without virsh net-destroy?
Hi, When I setup a new KVM guest and add it's mac address to the default NAT'ted network, it would be nice to have that become active without having to destroy the network and recreate it - as that tends to make the other guests rather upset. Anybody knows how to achieve that? I've tried virsh net-edit but that doesn't seem to do anything useful :-( BR Bent

Install 6.2 via wireless
Folks I have a HP 8540w workstation, and just for kicks, I wanted to see if I could install Centos 6.2 using only the wireless connection, and the cd/dvd reader. I tried the "net-install" CD image, but it never found the wireless adaptor. How for up the chain must I go to succeed? Net-install (doesn-work) CD containing minimal DVD containing the full image? This effort was more

HP Mini 1010NR

Laptop turns off after lid closed Centos6
Folks I have a laptop which i am using temporarily as a test server. It is permanently plugged in. It is running Centos 6, command line only. In the past, I could close the lid, thereby turning off the display, but not turning off the machine. It remained running indefinitely. A recent update (this past week) changed that behavior. Now, when I close the lid, the laptop turns itself off

The proposed position would be http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/HP/Pavilion-DV7-2250ed I'd like to add the steps needed to install, and what's needed to get wireless working (and anything else that pops up after that). hp laptop
I have a new hp laptop, I installed centos 5.5 on x86_64. I was only seeing one core in /proc/cpuinfo. The CPU is core i5 M450 which should be dual core. So I put a more recent kernel on the machine, 2.6.34.7 did the compile and all - rebooted and I still only see one core in /proc/cpuinfo. the i5 M450 is a dual core cpu. Is there something else I am missing? Thanks, Jerry

New to virtualization - can't use more than one CD when installing a new VM
I've done a search through all the Centos-virt emails, but can't find the answer. I'm trying to install my first VM using Centos 5.5 as the host as well as the VM OS. It starts fine using VMM, but when it asks for the second disk of 8 CDs, the first one isn't ejected, although unmounted because I can open the tray, and won't recognize that the second CD is inserted. Was I

6.2 install fails on HP 6200pro (Intel Q65X chipset).
CentOS 5.6 x64 installs successfully on HP 6200pro SFF box with Intel Q65X Express chipset (including HD graphics), Core i5 and added NVS300 graphics card. Actually, it works great. HP lists "RedHat Enterprise x64" as a supported OS. The 6200pro is a "business desktop" that became available in early summer 2011. CentOS 6.2 x64 install halts during initial boot, with boot
