sda and sdb reverse order with an external USB drive
Hello I am using 64 bit CentOS 6.4 on an i7 laptop with one sata drive and a CD drive. I installed CentOS by manually partitioning sda as: sda1 as /boot, sda2 as swap, sda3 as /. The booted system works great. When I insert an external USB drive, formatted as ext3, the hard drive on the laptop and the USB drive are either sda or sdb, depending upon the order on which I insert the USB drive

Mini PCs
I have been working, for the past few years, with armv7 SOCs and have a number of servers working. Intel, etal are catching up with ARM and I have seen ones like: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/NEW-Mini-pc-X86-4-Lan-Qotom-Q190G4N-with-celeron-J1900-quad-core-4-usb-VGA/32785346279.html I am looking for a low power (this is 10W) x86_64 board that has at least 2 core and 2GB memory. Boot disk changes from /dev/sda during install to /dev/sdb on first boot
CentOS 4.6 x86_64, Dell PE2950 with DRAC5, onboard SAS RAID 1, 2 arrays. After booting installed system, /dev/sda exists but does not appear to be a hard disk. fdisk -l displays nothing for sda. CentOS is on /dev/sdb and the second RAID 1 array is now /dev/sdc. It's been suggested (in the Dell Linux mailing list) that it is related to the virtual CD device of the DRAC. But why would it

[PATCH 1/3] tests: Increase the size of the /dev/sda and /dev/sdb test devices.
Previously these were rather small - just 500 MB. This is too small to create a btrfs device on aarch64 (where page size may be 64K), and barely enough even on x86-64. This change makes both these devices 10 GB, and adjusts a few tests so they continue to pass. --- docs/guestfs-hacking.pod | 4 ++-- generator/actions.ml | 17 +++++++++++------ tests/c-api/tests-main.c | 6 +++--- 3 files

Force SATA1 on AOC-SAT2-MV8
I have a supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 and am having some issues getting drives to work. From what I can tell, my cables are to long to use with SATA2. I got some drives to work by jumpering them down to sata1, but other drives I can''t jumper without opening the case and voiding the drive warranty. Does anyone know if there is a system setting to drop it back to SATA1? I use zfs on a raid2 if

External SATA drive enclosures + ZFS?
Hi all, Space is starting to get a bit tight here, so I''m looking at adding a couple of TB to my home server. I''m considering external USB or FireWire attached drive enclosures. Cost is a real issue, but I also want the data to be managed by ZFS--so enclosures without a JBOD option have been disgarded (i.e., I don''t want to use any internal HW RAID controllers). One

how do export a block device via eSATA?
Does any one know how to, if at all possible currently, to export a block device via eSATA? i.e. how do I do something like iSCSI, but over eSATA? I have a cheat ($15 probably?) media player at home (Egreat EG-M31B Network Media Tank - awesome little machine) that runs some flavor of Debian and can be connected to any PC via eSATA as an external HDD's. i.e. it exports the built-in HDD as a

HotPlug, eSATA, and /media
Ok, got a quickie. I have an eSATA drive, a 750GB Seagate in an eSATA external enclosure, and a Silicon Image sil3132 ExpressCard controller for my laptop. The disk and controller work great in CentOS 5 (or F7, for that matter), if I specifically mount it. This is not how I want to have to use this drive, however. I want to hotplug it; that is, plug the controller into the laptop, and then

eSATA drive enclosure of a full PC?
HI All, I have a dilemma and I would appreciate advice 1. Get a good size case, mobo, processor, etc and put 8 hard drives it in and RAID them. (yes an 8 port SATA mobo). Running CentOS. or 2. Get an eSATA enclosure that has room for 8 or 10 drives and just connect it to box? I know that RAID is not a full proof backup, but I am looking for a solution to store all of my data, projects, music,

USB-3.0 on C6.5 ??
Just wondering if there are any known issues with USB 3.0 storage devices in Centos 6.5?? I just got one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817332028 it does either esata or USB 3.0. My new motherboard (ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0) supports both, so I've tried both (of course, can't have a feature without at least giving it a whirl! :)). esata seems to work fine, I

Supsend/hibernate on Samsung NC10
Hi, I cannot have suspend and hibernate working on a Samsung NC10 (netbook) running CentOS 5.4 i386. When I try suspending/hibernating the screen becomes black (with a few logs, like "shrinking memory" for hibernate) and then the computer hangs and I have to force a shutdown with the power button. This wiki page seems to say that it should work out of the box:

Any experience with eSATA and port multiplier...?
Hey, just bought an eSATA/USB dual drive docking station and my CentOS 5 can only see one drive at a time... Any one knows if there are specific parameters to set somewhere? Or do I need a more recent kernel (like upgrading to CentOS 6?) The docking is a Sharkoon Quickport Duo v2 + 2 drives + 1 eSATA cable... http://www.sharkoon.com/?q=en/content/sata-quickport-duo-v2 The eSATA controller is an

Centos backup tools
Hi all! I'm building a raid box to use for backups, connectivity will be either USB3 or esata. Looking for suggestions on backup software I can use. I know there's rsync, which may be a good solution. I also find backupPC at epel, backintime also at epel, kbackup. DejaDup looks interesting, but none of the repos I'm set up to use shows it being available. some small details: I

Controlling the order of /dev/sdX devices?
Hi CentOS 5.4(final) 2.6.18-164el5PAE. I am trying to prevent removable USB and eSATA devices from occupying /dev/sdX devices ahead of a 3ware RAID controller. For example: at boot, if a USB drive and eSATA HDD (connected to an LSI 1068E onboard controller, reflashed in "IT" mode to handle hotplug devices) were both present, they would occupy devices /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc, ahead of

External eSata ZFS raid possible?
Is this possible? I want an external case with 4 HD in, each having an individual eSata cable. I plug in this case only when needed (each HD plugs into my PC separately), and do something like ">import ZFS pool" and use my ZFS raid. When done, I unplug it with ">export ZFS pool" or something similar command. This way I save energy, less noise, etc. I want it only as a
