SSD support in C5 and C6
Hey everyone, My company is beginning to look at using SSD drives in our CentOS based servers. Does C5 and C6 support TRIM and other "required" functions for the SSD to operate? new "large" fileserver config questions
Hi all, I was recently charged with configuring a new fairly large (24x3TB disks) fileserver for my group. I think I know mostly what I want to do with it, but I did have two questions, at least one of which is directly related to CentOS. 1) The controller node has two 90GB SSDs that I plan to use as a bootable RAID1 system disk. What is the preferred method for laying out the RAID array? I

SSD drives are really fast running Dovecot
I just replaced my drives for Dovecot using Maildir format with a pair of Solid State Drives (SSD) in a raid 0 configuration. It's really really fast. Kind of expensive but it's like getting 20x the speed for 20x the price. I think the big gain is in the 0 seek time. Here's what I bought. CentOS 6, SSD recommendations?
Hello, because of high disk load we plan to move from disk (raid1) to ssd. Are there recommendations for - manufacturer - file sytem - raid1 The Red Hat Storage Administration Guide says: - no raid 1 - ext4 only is this state of the art? I have searched list,centos.org 2015 - nothing found. I found in the year 2012 / 2013: https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7580

SSD drives for the OS - 1 or 2?
Preparing to build a small replacement server (initially built in 2005) and normally for the OS I would buy 2x500GB drives and deploy in a RAID 1 configuration. Now we have SSD drives available - does just a single SSD drive offer the same reliability or is there advantage in deploying two in a Raid 1 config? Also, what form factor / interface is best for the SSD OS boot device on a server

ssd for /home
Hi, I am thinking to change sata disk for /home and I want to know if change to a SSD hd, is a good option. I have 30-40 accounts with 30-50K email in boxes. -- Saludos!! Luciano Andino GNU/Linux user #185103 Santa Fe - Argentina -----------------------------------------------

Errors on an SSD drive
is that because the drive is compressing the information?? is there a way to turn this off?? i hate mandatory compression as losing one bit in a compressed file tends to be a big deal compared to the same in an uncompressed file. -- Securely sent with Tutanota. storage for mailserver
hi, I am planning to replace my old CentOS 6 mail server soon. Most details are quite obvious and do not need to be changed, but the old system was running on spinning discs and this is certainly not the best option for todays mail servers. With spinning discs, HW-RAID6 was the way to go to increase reliability and speed. Today, I get the feeling, that traditional RAID is not the best option for

does sharing an SSD as slog and l2arc reduces its life span?
Hi, I don''t know if it''s already been discussed here, but while thinking about using the OCZ Vertex 2 Pro SSD (which according to spec page has supercaps built in) as a shared slog and L2ARC device it stroke me that this might not be a such a good idea. Because this SSD is MLC based, write cycles are an issue here, though I can''t find any number in their spec. Why do I

Errors on an SSD drive
what file system are you using?? ssd drives have different characteristics that need to be accomadated (including a relatively slow write process which is obvious as soon as the buffer is full), and never, never put a swap partition on it, the high activity will wear it out rather quickly.? might also check cables, often a problem particularly if they are older sata cables being run at a possibly

SSD as system drive - partitioning question
I mentioned here the other day that I was planning to set up a Centos 6 system using a SSD for the system drive and a regular hard drive for a data drive. My plan is to have everything that doesn't change (much) on the SSD, such as /boot, /lib, /bin and so on. I want to put /tmp and /var and /home on the regular hard drive. Now that I'm at the stage of actually setting this up I have

Software RAID1 Failure Help
I am running software RAID1 on a somewhat critical server. Today I noticed one drive is giving errors. Good thing I had RAID. I planned on upgrading this server in next month or so. Just wandering if there was an easy way to fix this to avoid rushing the upgrade? Having a single drive is slowing down reads as well, I think. Thanks. Replacing SW RAID-1 with SSD RAID-1
Hi, I want to replace my hard drives based SW RAID-1 with SSD's. What would be the recommended procedure? Can I just remove one drive, replace with SSD and rebuild, then repeat with the other drive? Thanks Frank -- <listfrank1 at gmail.com>

SSD for Centos SWAP /tmp & /var/ partition
Has anyone actually used a SSD in a Centos setup? My little experiment with a s/h WD drive for /tmp and SWAP partitions kicked the bucket on Wednesday, when the poor WD drive caught the click-of-death. It was a s/h drive to start with and lasted about 4 months. But that was without the /var/log/ partition being written to it, as I mounted that back onto /var/log from the original drive. So
