Using Dovecot-auth to return error code 450 (or other 4xx) to Postfix when user is on vacation
Hello to all members.
I am using Dovecot for 5 years, but this is my first post here.
I am aware of the various autoresponder scripts for vacation autoreplies (I am using Virtual Vacation 3.1 by Mischa Peters).
I have an issue with auto-replies - it is vulnerable to spamming with forged email address.
Forging can be prevented with several Postfix settings, which I did in the past - but was forced

question for those who run mail servers
Not technically a centos question, but a lot of you guys seem to manage
some large systems
and I could use some clarification on a postfix setting.*
*reject_unknown_client_hostname
(in postfix < 2.3 reject_unknown_client)
When I first used this there were issues with users trying to send mail
through the server
from hotels, wireless spots, etc. This was solved by pushing up permit

Helo Checks not always working?
All i have is :
smtpd_client_restrictions = permit_mynetworks, permit_sasl_authenticated
I disabled the unknown restriction due to lots of customers of me are missing PTR records, which needs to be set bij the internet provider.
So they got blocked, i had to remove these.
The Helo check is often on the IT department can adjust them selfs.
And most spammers have incorrect helo’s

Request: option to hide user IP/HELO content from mail sent via submissiond
For reasons of user privacy and security I usually configure submission servers to not include accurate IP address and HELO information of authenticated users. (Usually replacing it with a private-use domain / IPv6 address.)
Dovecot submission (2.3.2) will produce a header something like this (where ?10.22.36.10" is a public IP address)

Reverse DNS, Kerberos, and Samba4 as a DC
Hey everyone,
I'm one of those crazy people willing to try setting up Samba4
alpha in a small production environment as a DC. I've followed the
Samba4 HowTo (which is excellent by the way) and have a domain setup and
functioning in a test environment.
My production network, however, is not quite as nice as my test
network. I have convinced IT (I work for a group of research

R CMD check: OK in LINUX. Crashes in Windows!
Hi,
I have followed the recommended steps for creating a package (rctest). As of
now, my goal is simply to understand how various pieces fit together. The
package includes:
(1) C code with source in sub-directories, compiled to create a static
library.
(a) There is a single C-struct (dns) a simple 'matrix': {int m; int n;
double *d;}
(b) C code to create random matrix of a certain size.

501 Syntax: HELO hostname - Mail problem
Hello...
I am encountering a problem sending emails from Windows using an
extermal smtp server.
When attempting to send out the email, the following error is
returned:
501 Syntax: HELO hostname
I have checked the format of the emails, and they are ok. It seems
it''s choking right at the begging of the connection to the smtp
server, when my computer needs to identify itself by sending

smtpd_sender_restrictions = reject_unknown_sender_domain,
