ISC's dhcp server, radvd and bind9 now adding samba as an AD DC
So I had dhcp, radvd and bind working together nicely and now I threw in a wrench of setting up an AD DC I want to change my dhcp server setting to put client's into the new AD Domain but am a little hesitant as it is all working so nicely with DDNS I'm starting to think all I need to do is edit just my dhcpd.conf and change occurrences of DOMAIN1.SUBDOMAIN.TLD to

$HOME/.ssh/config and host/hostname resolution how-to?
Hiya, What is the easiest way of looking up a hostname to see if it exists, taking into account the .ssh/config file? If i have an entry in my file host host1 hostname server.domain.name then usual OS calls won't recognise the 'alias' host1. So, i need to make a call via ssh somehow to check if the name resolves without actually initiating a full blown 'expensive'

ISC's dhcp server, radvd and bind9 now adding samba as an AD DC
I had left my config alone for now and dhcp still writes to DOMAIN1.SUBDOMAIN.TLD. But samba has been complaining about not being able to write to bind in its zone. ISC's dhcp server, radvd and bind9 now adding samba as an AD DC
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Configure_BIND_as_backend_for_Samba_AD helped me find that I needed to add options { [...] tkey-gssapi-keytab "/usr/local/samba/private/dns.keytab"; [...] }; That seems to have fixed my errors with DNS On Fri, May 27, 2016 at 9:26 AM, Rowland penny <rpenny at samba.org> wrote: > On 27/05/16 14:37, Jeff Sadowski wrote: >

Question regarding patch for ProxyCommand setting
Hi! I recently started using ProxyCommand and noticed that it's not possible to specify a "none" value for it. I've already written a patch for that, but wanted to discuss the issue before posting the patch. The problem is the following: I'd like to use a ProxyCommand by default, but exclude some hosts. But as soon as I have Host * ProxyCommand /some/proxy/command %h %p

why does rsync translate user@host into '$RSYNC_RSH -l user host'?
Why does rsync believe it knows more about the use of the token to the left of the colon than the program which will be used as the remote connection? I have a script called sshto with accepts targets like this: host1!host2!host3 and constructs the requisite ssh ProxyCommand options to do a multihop ssh to host3 to run a command. Very useful if connecting to firewalled nonroutable hosts or to

file type not autorequiring parent directories.
If I use the ''file'' type to sync a file where the parent directory doesn''t exist the sync fails. According to the puppet docs "Puppet will autorequire any parent directories that are being managed". Am i missing something? Example: file { "/tmp/dhcp/dhcpd.include": source => "/tmp/dhcpd.include", } In

Some questions
After years of delays and side trips, I really am going to dive in and build my own Samba server. And I have a few questions. All of my servers will be ARM. The main hardware will be Cubieboards (2 and truck). They will be running Centos-7 once the development is finished. For now I am using Fedora 22 arm. My backup file server will be a pogoplug (armv5) with Redsleeve 7.1. My current

Cannot use \\hostname\dir in Windows2000 client's windows explore r
Hello, I am using samba ver 2.0.7 and the samba is running on a HPUX OS10.20 machine. On win95,98 NT and even WinXP, i can simply type \\host1\dirA to view the list of files in shared directories but for Win2000, will get a prompt that Windows cannot find the path.... But the user already have and can access a drive mapped to the same dirA on the host1 via the netlogon script. Really

WERR_DNS_ERROR_NAME_DOES_NOT_EXIST when samba_dnsupdate tries to add to _msdcs
Thanks for your response, Rowland. As far as newer versions of Debian/Samba, I actually started with Ubuntu 18.04, which had Samba 4.7. But I ran into another problem trying to use it, so I backed off to an older version that I was hoping was more stable. See: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13298 Meanwhile, I did find out more about what was causing this error by looking at the

mysterious crash of a particular worker
Hi, I am using the latest checkout from backgroundrb release 1.0.1. I have a worker called status_checker that periodically (every minute) checks the status of certain hosts over the network. It works fine at the beginning but after a while the worker will mysteriously disappear and stop working. I have other workers running but they do not disappear like this worker does. These are

Zone transfers not working for subdomain
I have a domain, let's call it "example.com". I am able to do zone transfers on the local host as follows: dig example.com AXFR @localhost This command outputs all of the contents of the zone as expected. I am unable to do zone transfers on my subdomain though: dig subdomain.example.com AXFR @localhost ; <<>> DiG 9.2.1 <<>> subdomain.example.com AXFR

Help with understanding and solving snapshot problem
Hello Fairly new to libvirt. I’m hoping to both solve a problem with this question as well as learn more detail about how libvirt works. Using RHEL 6.4 and libvirt version is 0.10.2 and qemu-img version is 0.12.1.2 Using virt-manager I created a VM. Nothing unusual as far as I can see. I then added a disk. So I have a second virtio based volume which the guest then mounts as a separate

help with tinc unstable state
I am using tinc to connect together VPCs in AWS across multiple regions and accounts to provide secure communication. For the most part, it works great. A few times, I have seen issues where something got into an unstable state that didn't seem to resolve itself. Shutting down tinc on all hosts and restarting seemed to do the trick, but I'd like to see if there is something that I can
