[PATCH] promised MMX patches rc1
Hello, Here is my first speedup patch. Like 10-11%. No IDCT yet. Please feel free to comment my code or even better think about improvements. :) I belive my routines are not so bad, maybe one day they will be even more faster. What needs to be optimized is the loop filter fuction. I have no ideas now how to do it. It does not leave much space for parallel stuff, copying memory from lot of

simplify source code
Hi I would like to shorten mod1 <- nls(ColName2 ~ ColName1, data = table, ...) mod2 <- nls(ColName3 ~ ColName1, data = table, ...) mod3 <- nls(ColName4 ~ ColName1, data = table, ...) ... is there something like cols = c(ColName2,ColName3,ColName4,...) for i in ... mod[i-1] <- nls(ColName[i] ~ ColName1, data = table, ...) I am looking forward to help Christof

substitution of the ASCII character "squared" AKA "^2" AKA (alt+0178) with a tractable one
Deae R helpers, the problem I'm facing today is related to the manipulation of a string. The string is coming from a a porosimeter, whose control is under a complicate set-up of two computers One (running on DOS) is controlling directly the hardware, while the other (running on win XP) which process the data is connected to the first one via serial. I get the data from this last computer.

An assembly optimization and fix
I have optimized FLAC__fixed_compute_best_predictor_asm_ia32_mmx_cmov function and fixed bug when data_len == 0. Now the function is about 50% faster and flac -5 is about 5% faster on my box. I have tested it thoroughly, I think it can go to flac 1.0.4. -- Miroslav Lichvar -------------- next part -------------- --- src/libFLAC/ia32/fixed_asm.nasm.orig 2002-01-26 19:05:12.000000000 +0100 +++

MMX loop filter for theora-exp
Hello, I would like to announce the semi-optimized oc_state_loop_filter_frag_rows It gains like 7% speedup. Unfortunately it has some issues: 1) wont compile on 64bit (I will fix it later hopefully) 2) is not yet fully optimized (instruction stalls) Here are the results. CPU: Athlon, speed 1466.91 MHz (estimated) Counted CPU_CLK_UNHALTED events (Cycles outside of halt state) with a unit mask

[LLVMdev] X86 disassembler is quite broken on handling REX
hi, i think the current X86 disassembler is quite broken and fails badly on handling REX for x86_64 code. below are some examples: $ echo "0x0f,0xeb,0xc3"|./Release+Asserts/bin/llvm-mc -disassemble -triple=x86_64 .text por %mm3, %mm0 $ echo "0x40,0x0f,0xeb,0xc3"|./Release+Asserts/bin/llvm-mc -disassemble -triple=x86_64 .text por %mm3, %mm0 $ echo

Data.frame manipulation
Hi All, I'm conducting a meta-analysis and have taken a data.frame with multiple rows per study (for each effect size) and performed a weighted average of effect size for each study. This results in a reduced # of rows. I am particularly interested in simply reducing the additional variables in the data.frame to the first row of the corresponding id variable. For example:

formatting data for predict()
I'm trying to get predicted probabilities out of a regression model, but am having trouble with the "newdata" option in the predict() function. Suppose I have a model with two independent variables, like this: y=rbinom(100, 1, .3) x1=rbinom(100, 1, .5) x2=rnorm(100, 3, 2) mod=glm(y ~ x1 + x2, family=binomial) I can then get the predicted probabilities for the two values of

Sobel's test for mediation and lme4/nlme
Hello, Any advice or pointers for implementing Sobel's test for mediation in 2-level model setting? For fitting the hierarchical models, I am using "lme4" but could also revert to "nlme" since it is a relatively simple varying intercept model and they yield identical estimates. I apologize for this is an R question with an embedded statistical question. I noticed that a

How to move an internal function to external keeping same environment?
Hi I have within a quite big function foo1, an internal function foo2. Now, in order to have a cleaner code, I wish to have the internal foo2 as "external". This foo2 was using arguments within the foo1 environment that were not declared as inputs of foo2, which works as long as foo2 is within foo1, but not anymore if foo2 is external, as is the case now. Now, I could add all those

Error in summary.mlm: formula not subsettable
When I fit a multivariate linear model, and the formula is defined outside the call to lm(), the method summary.mlm() fails. This works well: > y <- matrix(rnorm(20),nrow=10) > x <- matrix(rnorm(10)) > mod1 <- lm(y~x) > summary(mod1) ... But this does not: > f <- y~x > mod2 <- lm(f) > summary(mod2) Error en object$call$formula[[2L]] <- object$terms[[2L]]

output without quotes
Hi All, I am interested in printing column names without quotes and am struggling to do it properly. The tough part is that I am interested in using these column names for a function within a function (e.g., lm() within a wrapper function). Therefore, cat() doesnt seem appropriate and print() is not what I need. Ideas? # sample data mod1 <- rnorm(20, 10, 2) mod2 <- rnorm(20, 5, 1) dat
