OT: permission denied when opening PDF docs with Acrobat Reader X potected mode
Hi, this might be off topic because it's not a samba problem, but might be interesting for others too. We are running an older samba 3.0.24 working as domain controller (no DFS features). When opening a .pdf file with the Acrobat Reader X from a WinXP SP3 client (maschine is member of the domain) the Acrobat Reader X shows a "permission denied". We see the following in the samba

Continual lib/access.c:check_access - what's it mean?
When I look at the log file for a particular user, I see the following, about every 11-12 minutes. The only thing I'm using my Samba server for is acting as a master browser, and print server (with CUPS). There are no domain logons. This activity in the log file keeps going well beyond when a print job is complete. [2003/04/12 15:27:25, 2, pid=948, effective(0, 0), real(0, 0)]

blocked ports 445 and 139 make printer-shares very slow
Hi, do ports 445 and 139 (incoming) have to be open for the samba server's IP on WinXP client side (all WinXP clients are using netbios over TCP/IP)? F-Secure 7.10 blocks all incoming microsoft-ds (445) and netbios-ssn (139) by default, which ends up in very slow printer-shares behaviour (for example opening the properties or the spool window of a samba-printer takes up to 30 seconds). Tinc clients behind a NAT, tunnels get unstable
Hi, I'm running some tinc clients behind a NAT (masquerading, Cisco Router) connecting to a host outside on a public IP in a different network. The tunnels get unstable every few minutes and I see packet loss when pinging the clients on their internal tunnel IPs from the host side. Before putting the tinc clients behind the NAT they were running on public IPs too (clients and host in

log.smbd says no hosts
Hello, all. Maybe I'm looking at this wrong, but when I view my log.smbd file, I see the following line: [2002/11/25 08:20:40, 3] lib/access.c:check_access(318) check_access: no hostnames in host allow/deny list. But looing in smb.conf I see hosts allow = 127.0.0.1 10.0.0. Am I looking in the wrong place or am I not understanding what's going on? Thanks, all

check if drive letters are occupied by novell
Hi, I use Samba's root preexec funktionality to create dynamic logon scripts: root preexec = /usr/local/samba/install/bin/make_logon_script '%m' '%U' '%a' '%g' '%L Who do I check in the by make_logon_script generated logon .bat script, which is executed on the windows clients, if a drive letters is already occupied by novell. "Hosts allow" directive is not correctly evaluated for printer shares
Hello, the access to printer shares is denied because the client IP address is allegedly not in the "hosts allow" list, although it actually is and access to normal shares perfectly works. I have two samba servers (3.0.33) in two different subnets with pure Windows-XP-Clients. The first subnet is 192.168.1.0/24 and the server's ip address is 192.168.1.1. Let's call this server

Blocking internet access to Samba
My samba.smbd log shows multiple entries such as: [2002/10/30 10:30:04, 0] lib/access.c:check_access(323) Denied connection from (211.163.100.141) They show up about every five minutes and are from a few different IP addresses I thought that my iptables configuration would block connection attempts from the internet - is that what these are? My LAN ip range is 192.168.0.x

Erronous username character substitution ( %u )
Good day, I'm having a few problems with Samba 3.0.2a, specifically involving the username character substitute, %u. For some reason, Samba resolves the %u character wrongly when used in the "path" parameter, where it resolves it as the guest account. However, the server in question has "map to guest" set to never and both "guest ok" and "guest only"

LocalDiscovery starts to work after ping
Hi, I'm using LocalDiscovery = yes to let tinc clients connect directly behind a NAT. Problem is that clients only start to talk directly after pinging each client from each client. Is there way to force direct connection after starting the tunnel. Ciao!
