Template for building .deb packages for missing libraries?
Greeting R debianites -
There are a number of R libraries I need debianized (for Ubuntu Maverick
systems, if it matters) -- ISwR, Hmisc, mosaic, mosaicManip, HSAUR2 --
which I couldn't find debian packages for.
The structure of R libraries is so regular that I'm guessing surely
there must be a template for creating debian packages for them, or maybe
a set of instructions?

Moving to R 3.0.0 on Ubuntu
This is a post I just added to my Ubuntu R Blog
(http://www.personal.psu.edu/mar36/blogs/the_ubuntu_r_blog/2013/03/moving-to-r-300-on-ubuntu.html).
As you may (or may not) be aware of, R 3.0.0 is [scheduled to be
released](http://www.r-project.org/) on April 3rd. Since this is a
major release and there may be some growing pains (but I hope not) in
the move 3.0.0, here is some information

Broken rsync mirroring for PuppetLabs APT repo
Hi,
I have sent this mail to info@puppetlabs.com and received no answer, so
I''m posting here as well; I hope somebody at PuppetLabs will be able to
help.
I have a local mirror of apt.puppetlabs.com which has been broken for at
least a few days: the apt/dists/ subdirectory only contains symlinks to
non-existent files.

$lsbdistcodename stays the same after dist-upgrade
Dear List,
i was running a few natty systems and upgraded one of them to oneiric.
Facter shows the right lsbdistcodename, lsbdistrelease, etc.
parameters, but when i''m running puppet agent the modules has access
to the previous (natty, etc.) values. As i see on puppetmaster in /var/
lib/puppet/yaml/{facts,node} the output from facter and the agent is
cached and won''t update

A guide to R packages for Ubuntu
Hi everyone,
I am using the backports from
http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/lucid/ on Lucid and would
like to create a bunch of additional r-cran packages on my workstation.
Where can I find the latest scripts to automatically create those
packages? Is https://r-forge.r-project.org/projects/cran2deb/ still
up-to-date?

Cran2deb4ubuntu: An Update for 2014
I have been a little quiet on the update front for the past few months,
so I thought I would give a quick update as 2014 begins. Between
increased responsibilities at work (pseudo-department chair) and some
family health issues, work on
[cran2deb4ubuntu](https://launchpad.net/~marutter/+archive/c2d4u)
(c2d4u) slowed a bit in the last half of 2013. Here is the current

Anyone using Oneric suddenly having Wine/OpenGL problems?
So last night I try to start L4D2 (which previously worked), and am seeing this dreaded message as the first in the console:
Code:
err:wgl:X11DRV_WineGL_InitOpenglInfo couldn't initialize OpenGL, expect problems
This is happening both with the latest Wine from git and from the prebuilt 1.3 package in the Oneiric repos. It was all working fine when I last tested (using my git build) a

ubuntu kernels 2.6.39+ don''t boot as hvm domU
Hi!
I tried booting ubuntu natty/oneiric domUs with 2.6.39 and 3.0rc1
linux-image packages, but they all "just stop" after the kernel is
loaded and the init process should take over.
The problem must be within the linux-image package, since natty domUs
with the standard 2.6.38 kernel boot just fine.
I also have debian and gentoo domUs running 2.6.39 without issues, so
it''s

Rename BTRfs to MuchSlowerFS ?
Hi list,
I don''t trust theoretical benchmarks that much and prefer "real-life
benchs" on the occasion, so here''s mine:
Given 4 laptops, the most powerful of which was running BTRFS and the
others ext3 or ext4, all machines running Ubuntu 11.04 Natty 32-bit with
a stock Ubuntu 2.6.38-11 kernel, all machines were given the following

New libpng in c2d4u3.5 breaks many other packages
Thanks for keeping us updated. Before I jump the gun and put this out on
social media (as a follow-up to this tweet
https://twitter.com/robinlovelace/status/990682038373158912 ), would you
say this is a reasonable message to send to the R-using Ubuntu community?:
Follow-on advice in case it's of use to any #Ubuntu + #rstats users out

voronoi.mosaic chokes?
Hi all,
I am running R 2.5.0 under Windows XP Media Center Edition. Here's a
problem that's been stumping me for a few days now, and I can't find
anything useful in the archives. I am using voronoi.mosaic (tripack
package) to create proximity polygons for a study of vegetation
competition and dynamics. The points lists are read in from a file for
each plot, then 8 duplicates

mosaic plot of "vcd" package does not stretch with 2-dimension?
Hi,
I like mosaic function of "vcd" package. I have played around it. I
have found out that mosaic plot data table is 2-dimension does not
stretch when you enlarge a mosaic plot. It is okay when data table is
3 or more dimension. The first one is of 3-dimension table case, and
the second one is 2-dimension. With the first plot, you can drag
window to enlarge a plot. With the

Changing Variable Names In VCD
Hello:
What is the most efficient way to change the plotted variable names in mosaic plots in the vcd package? Should one do a separate contingency table first, change the dimension names there and then pass that to mosaic?
Or is there a way to do it simply within mosaic.
I was thinking something like:
mosaic(~var1+var2, labelling_args=list(varnames=c('newvar1', 'newvar2'))

A guide to R packages for Ubuntu
As per a request, here is a brief guide to what is available to R users
as packages in Ubuntu.
Each release of Ubuntu includes the latest version of R and the
recommended packages. In addition, there are approximately 80
additional r-cran packages available in the default repositories. The
limitation to these packages is that they are not updated and reflect
the current version of the

c2d4u: apt sees new package version as a downgrade
Hello,
I noticed a strange thing when attempting to upgrade a specific package (lavaan) from c2d4u and wondered if someone could confirm the problem. In short, apt seems to think that an older version from the "universe" repo is higher than the newer version from c2d4u.
When I do
apt-cache showpkg r-cran-lavaan
I get the output at the bottom of this email. Then, I tried to force

vignette index going AWOL
I?m preparing a package (fastR) for submission to CRAN, but the vignette index keeps going AWOL, or at least R CMD check ?as-cran thinks so. I?ve tried several things and gave myself the weekend to think of other things, but I can?t figure it out. Perhaps someone on the list can lend a hand.
Here?s one example situation, where I build the index.html file myself and put it in inst/doc/index.html
