newie help needed
hi, I am a system admin who has just set up R-2.3.1 in suse 9.1 (opteron) for a previous windows user. Please forgive any obvious stupid questions :) We are struggling with a number of things. 1. is there a gui interface ? How do we use it ? R --gui just gets us to the command line. 2. how do we do unix commands like cd ? 3. can we define default directories - eg for data files ? 4.

dovecot notifying a database about total number of messages.
Hello, in addition to our mail system, we have some other systems which needs to know how many messages, and how many unread messages, a user has in his/her inbox (maildir). Currently, we have a mod_perl script which takes a mail address as input, and then traverses the maildir, and outputs the number of unread messages. Our challenge is that the maildirs are located on a SAN, and traversing a

The Green Book and its relevance to R
I bogged down about half way through reading the Green Book, in part because it became increasingly difficult to understand how some of the ideas related to R, as opposed to S (which I have not used). Does any reader know whether there is a document that points out differences between S and R that would be helpful in reading the Green Book? Ideally, perhaps, I need a "crib sheet" to

VmBuilder released
At the prompting of several kind souls on the list, I''ve placed an early release of my Virtual Machine Builder gem on rubyforge at http://rubyforge.org/projects/vmbuilder/. Documentation at http://vmbuilder.rubyforge.org/ The gem builds Xen masters and Xen based VMs from scratch using Debian that are ready to accept Rails apps (although at the moment it is missing the Web server part!).

[PATCH] fix gcc 3.4 warnings

FWIW, configure is already checking to see whether the compiler is gcc or not. There's an if clause in the configure scripts for ogg, vorbis, theora, and other of our packages that uses this to add

IMAP Voicemail - can't get messages. Arrgh!
Hi - I just deployed a system using IMAP Voicemail. During my testing, voicemail worked fine. I could check vm from the phone, and the messages would get marked as read, or I could read the messages in a mail client, and the phone's mwi light would turn off. Very neat. I'm not exactly sure when things got munged up, but something broke. I can record messages with Voicemail(), but now

2.1.rc1 (056934abd2ef): virtual plugin mailbox search pattern
Hello Timo, With dovecot 2.1.rc1 (056934abd2ef) there seems to be something wrong with virtual plugin mailbox search patterns. I'm using a virtual mailbox 'unread' with the following dovecot-virtual file $ cat dovecot-virtual * unseen For testing propose I created the following folders with each containing one unread message INBOX, INBOX/level1 and INBOX/level1/level2

Plugin mail-filter tangles

Dovecot and Postfix connected via LMTP + Dovecot mail plugin 'mail-filter' to encrypt/decrypt emails on the fly with public/private users' RSA keys. Case study : You have 3 (virtuals) users belonging to 3 different domains, all managed by your Dovecot server. One of these users is connected to Dovecot with MUA

[BUG] 3.8 alignment/struct padding
Hi, I have what appears to be an alignment/struct padding bug. An i64 is not correctly aligned to the 8-byte boundary, and this results in a mismatched struct size between C and LLVM. We are currently running 3.8, and did not see this bug in 3.5. Please advise. I am trying that out. Debian 9 (stretch) backports still doesn't have 4.16 kernel. So I building the kernel from the source. Will keep you posted. On Mon, 26 Mar 2018 at 13:00 Richard W.M. STATUS command and total/read message count
Hello, I'm running Dovecot 1.0.15 with Thunderbird 3.0.1. TB can query folders for messages in two ways: Either by using the STATUS command, or by opening the folder (don't know the respective IMAP commands, sorry...). Querying via opening the folder is reliable, but via the STATUS command, only new/unread messages are shown. If I want to have the total number of (unread) mesages in a

Phantom email message
Got sort of a strange problem on one email account. Everything works fine with Thunderbird/IMAP showing the correct unread message count. But on my DroidX smartphone one of my email accounts always shows one unread message, but I can't bring any unread messages up. It's like there's something there making it think there's a message when there isn't. The email client is K-9

flags not synced correctly with dovecot sync (dsync)
I'm running dovecot 2.3.4.1 from https://repo.dovecot.org/ on Ubuntu 18.04 on three machines that I'll call server, laptop1 and laptop2. Both laptop1 and laptop2 run dovecot sync against server to keep local copies of my imap folders. Even when I initially had only two machines, laptop1 and server, I occasionally noticed that flags were lost, usually custom flags used by Gnus, but I

All mails unread after short while
Hello, I have on Ubuntu 8.04 Postfix 2.5.1 and Dovecot 1.0.10. The mails are saved in maildir format. In one account on my server all mails are unread all the time. If i set them as read in my client (IMAP with Mac Mail 4.4 or IMAP with Squirrelmail, it doesn?t matter) they seem to be checked as read for some minutes or less, but very soon they are unread again, so i guess, only my client thinks

Replacement for KMail V1
Last week my trusty Fedora 9 file and print server failed on me. Not bad for 12 years trusty service. I have now replaced it with a C7 server and found that lots have changed in those 12 years. Thankfully many things haven't, named-chroot, dhcpd, etc pretty much copied across and Samba wasn't a major rewrite. However I feel like my right arm has been chopped off.? My work life
