C 7 installation annoyances
In the disk partitioner, I can't 1) choose to make the LVM with root and swap be on a RAID 1. Is there some way to do that, rather than two separate partitions RAIDed? 2) They don't align, so I can't clone /dev/sda to /dev/sdb as a failover (for /boot and /boot/efi). I've created those two, manually, and nope, it wiped them out, so I can't clone

3TB system drive partitioning question
so I want to install c6.2 x86_64 onto a 2.7TB /dev/sda ... its a virgin machine with no software, using pxe boot. disk druid or whatever seems to only want to let me have like 2tb of default stuff, I'm guessing because its not using GPT? do I need to preboot into a shell or something and use parted before I can install ? -- john r pierce N 37, W 122 santa

USB Stick Install
Hello all, I'm looking at setting up a sort of 'appliance' server and as such its really not going to have a lot packages etc. I thought of installing 4.2 on a 1gb USB stick, however, the stick is not even recongnized by anaconda. It did appear when I did 'modprobe usb-storage.ko' as /dev/sdc (i have already have 2 SATA disks which are sda, sdb). Then the disk partitioner

SOLVED: Centos6 Installer can handle 3TB Disks with little prepare.
Hi List, yesterday i tried to install CentOS6 on Server bei Hetzner.de I noticed that Anaconda Installer is not possible to handle the 3TB Disks in Server when u try to Partition them. U can do only 3 normal partitions or u can do only 3 raid partitions, the SOLUTION is: Before U install Centos6 on the new naked server: a) Start Server in Rescue mode b) parted /dev/sda c) mklabel gpt (

Merry Christmas ! and a tiny question
Hi all, I hope You have had nice Christmas Eve. My question: I've updated version 4.4, in that version of Gimp is 2.0.5 and the up-to-date version at Gimp website is 2.2.13 (stable). There seems to be 2.2.8 for FC3 but that's not the newest and thus I don't want to get it. How I should proceed when, - I want the latest stable version, - want to get some optional packages - want to

Partition large disk
Hi, I have a 24TB RAID6 disk with a GPT partition table on it. I need to partition it into 2 partitions one of 16TB and 1 of 8TB to put ext4 filesystems on both. But I really need to do this remotely. ( if I can get to the site I could use gparted ) Now fdisk doesn't understand GPT partition tables and pat

3TB External USB Drive isn't recognized
We have a 3TB external USB drive that I am trying to attach to some CentOS5 servers. I have tried an older Dell PE1950 and a newer R310 but neither one seems to be able to read the drive. It works no problem on windows servers/workstations and I was able to format with NTFS. I know there are different methods for formatting large disks but this one doesn't even seem to show up as a /dev/

Formatting a large disk
I need to install Centos on a machine with 3tb raid disk. (3 ware raid card) Could someone in the list suggest a utility for partition this disk. I would like to have the whole disk in 1 partition and format it for ext3. The default partitioning utility doesn't do this. The OS sits on another SATA disk and each time during the installation it doesn't format the full disk which is 3TB.

Now you did it Olly
Oh, Boy. I am in trouble now.... I just installed Centos on a USB drive on my corp notebook. To not TOUCH my corp drive. I spent time with the drive partitioner to make sure that nothing was done to the internal hard drive... Well I missed something and I overwrote the encrypted bootloader on the hard drive. Now what? Can I rescue things? I am leaving for my flight in a couple hours to

RHEL/Centos6 handling disks w/4k sectors?
Does anyone know if 4k sectors will be handled better by the kernel in Centos6? I'd like to copy backups to a 750Gb laptop type drive for offsite storage but the best write speed I can get is about 8MB/sec even with dd to the raw disk which shouldn't have an issue with partition alignment. -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell at gmail.com

C 7 installation annoyances
The EL7 partitioner is a complete disaster and I regularly bitch about it on twitter and irc. You could try to convince it with kickstart and bypass the GUI altogether. Another option is to boot in a Live CD and do you partitioning from there either manually or via Gparted and hope these changes will be picked up by the EL7 installer so you can just use them as they are. hth -- Sent from the

OT - parted guidance
Hi All, Slightly OT as this is on a Centos 6 system I'm getting the fdisk message "partition does not start on a physical sector boundary" on a 4096 sector disk. I understand why this has happened. I just want to be sure of my parted syntax before I really mess things up. (before anyone says it - I know - do a backup) parted says that the offending partition 5 begins at 512 byte
