What's The Odds?
What's the odds of retaining the data in a software raid-1 array when falling back to CentOS 5.8 x86_64 from CentOS 6.3 x86_64? The array is made up of 2 - 1.5 TB hard disks. The original array was defined under CentOS 5.3 x86_64, then CentOS 6.1 x86_64 was installed and over time upgraded to CentOS 6.3. I need to back-level to test some software not certified for CentOS/RHEL 6.

unrar rpm package
Hi there -- I am running a server with the 5.6 64-bit distribution, and I am looking for an unrar rpm package. I have several repositories set up on the server which are the following: base updates extras centosplus contrib c5-testing All are enabled. When I do a yum search for unrar, nothing comes up. Is there another repository that I should add to the list, or is there a particular website

6.2 install fails on HP 6200pro (Intel Q65X chipset).
CentOS 5.6 x64 installs successfully on HP 6200pro SFF box with Intel Q65X Express chipset (including HD graphics), Core i5 and added NVS300 graphics card. Actually, it works great. HP lists "RedHat Enterprise x64" as a supported OS. The 6200pro is a "business desktop" that became available in early summer 2011. CentOS 6.2 x64 install halts during initial boot, with boot

VMware Server 2.0.1 On CentOS 5
It's my understanding that CentOS is a carbon copy of Red Hat - with the exception of the art work. Assuming that this is true, the support matrix for VMware Server 2.0.1 states Red Hat 5.1. I cannot seem to locate a CentOS 5.1 x86-64 copy. I can get a copy of 5.3 and 5.4. If I take this route, what should I expect running VMware 2.0.1? Thanks, Gene Poole -------------- next part

Server Build Example
I'm coming from the Fedora arena and I want to build, what I would call, a production server. I'm to the point where I don't want to upgrade every 6-months. I'm running Oracle DB 11g, a Tomcat/JBoss hybrid application server, and several other server type functions. Is there an example of building a server that boots into init3? Thanks, Gene Poole -------------- next part

ia32-libs for 64 bit CentOS
Hi, I've been trying to install Zimbra Desktop 7 on CentOS 5.5 using the usual perl script provided. The issue is, I get a warning that my system does not have ia32 libs. I dug a bit on google and found out that 'there is no such package as ia32 libs for Centos'. I also tried all the suggested work arounds like glibc & stuff, can anyone shed more light on this? Oh, the zimbra

Xen / KVM CentOS-5 How To Document
Does anyone have any idea where I can locate a 'GOOD' how-to document on implementing Xen and/or KVM on a CentOS-5.3 system? I'm currently running VMware Server 2.0.2, but I would like to make the move to the open source virtualization - if possible. What I found is somewhat short on the networking piece. It doesn't matter if it's TUI or GUI. Thanks, Gene Poole

Mysterious versioning reported by file command
I just noticed this, which doesn't actually seem to affect anything but does create a mystery: [frankcox at mutt temp]$ cat test.c #include <stdio.h> int main(void) { printf("Hello world\n"); return 0; } [frankcox at mutt temp]$ gcc -o test test.c [frankcox at mutt temp]$ file test test: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared

No ices for icecast ?
Hi, and a Happy New Year to everyone. I have followed this tutorial to install icecast on Centos 5.5, http://www.howtoforge.com/linux_webradio_with_icecast2_ices2 but cannot find the ices package for sending the audio to icecast for it to stream. I would like to send the data as mp3, if there is a suitable program to do this. Has anyone on the list done this on Centos? Kind Regards,

How Do I ...
All, I've got a machine running CentOS 5.3 and this machine has got 2 - built-in 1 Gig NICs and a expansion card with 4 - 100 Meg NICs. For whatever reason at install time, it made the expansion card eth0 through eth3 and the internal ports eth4 and eth5. And by default the 'machine' is known on the network by the eth0 NIC, so my throughput is limited to 100 Mb. How can I force

lost connection during yum update
During today's big Centos 6 update I lost my connection to a machine during the "yum update" and when I logged back in and ran yum update again it told me to run yum-complete-transaction. When I ran yum-complete-transaction I got screen after screen of "x is a duplicate with x" where x consists of a huge list of packages. "package-cleanup --dupes" gives me a

Updating/Backing Up Server
I am slowly migrating the data etc off an old CentOS32 4.x server to a new CentOS64 5.x server. The old server only has 15Gbyte of its hard drive in use. Is there an easy/safe way to copy the entire contents of old server root directory to a directory on the new server for future reference? Most of the data is various test files, perl scripts, etc. scattered all over.

Sort logfiles on common lines?
I have a huge mysql.log file full of errors. I'd like to sort it by the most common line, and work from there. I did go through the manpage for sort, and googled a bit, but I found nothing relevant. Here is an example of the output: [root@ log]# tail mysqld.log 110925 11:05:35 [ERROR] /usr/libexec/mysqld: Incorrect key file for table './ox_data_summary_ad_hourly.MYI'; try to repair it

CentOS 5.4 x86_64 and HPLIP-3.9.12
I recently purchased a HP Officejet Pro 8500 (A909a) and it's ethernet attached. It's been configured and works perfectly from WinXP, Win Vista, Windows 7, and Fedora 11 x86_64. However, on my machine running CentOS 5.4 x86_64 I can't get the configuration to work so that it prints duplex (2-sided). The HP Setup appears to be working from the command line, but the graphic
