Massive LMTP Problems with dovecot
Currently I'm having massive problems with LMTP delivery into dovcot.
dovecot/lmtp processes are piling up, eas using considerable amounts

How do I search for "greetings of the day"
My users say that "greetings of the day" occurs in academic spam a lot.
Since I don't trust my users, I opted to verify this bold claim.
But how do I search for a sequence of multiple words?

doveadm import - strange warning
I'm using the doveadm import command to extract mails from my backup:

This works like a charm, I'm getting all the mails, and I can access
the newly generated mailbox.
But when executing the command I'm getting an

Login with firstname.lastname instead of loginname - WORKING
3 years ago (!) I aksed about this and finally I implemented it today:
>> # NEW
>> passdb {
>> driver = passwd
>> # firstname.lastname at charite.de:password:uid:gid:(gecos):home:(shell):user=realloginname
>> args = /usr/local/etc/dovecot.login_via_email
>> }
>If you're only using it as a passdb, you don't need the uid/gid/home.

Login with firstname.lastname instead of loginname
Some of our users use to login as
firstname.lastname
or
firstname.lastname at charite.de
instead of using the "correct"
"flastname" login name.
In order to get this behaviour a long-gone co-worker wrote an
authdaemon.pl, which speaks the courier-authdaemon protocol.
How can I emulate this behaviour with dovecot?
Basically, all I need is a usernamen mapping ala:

dovecot 2.3.7.2-1~bionic: Performance issues caused by excessive IO to ~/mdbox/mailboxes/INBOX/dbox-Mails/dovecot.index.tmp
I set up system copying all mails to a backup system.
This used to work without a hitch - now in the last few days mails
would pile up in the Postfix Queue, waiting to be delivered using the
lmtp transport into dovecot.
So dovecot was being slow, but why? After all, nothing changed.
After reading some articles on stackoverflow I found a way of finding
out which file gets the most IO:

mails delivered to the wrong user when using lmtp_proxy and reject_unverified_recipient
Hi,
looks like we detected a serious bug in dovecot's lmtp proxying where
e-mails are delivered to the wrong user.
The setup is:
*) Dovecot is configured with "lmtp_proxy=yes"
# Support proxying to other LMTP/SMTP servers by performing passdb lookups.
lmtp_proxy = yes
*) Postfix uses "dynamic recipient verification", so Postfix starts
sending a (verify) mail by LMTP to

copymail deleted
Hi,
I had enabled an option in dovecot. mail_attachment_dir = /var/mail/virtual/copymail/attachments
After a while I checked /var/mail/virtual and did some cleanup. I did not remember that copymail was specified in dovecot and erased it.

Fwd: Plus addressing on Sentora using Postfix
I am running Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS ?Trusty? and "postconf -d | grep mail_version? gives me ?mail_version = 2.11.0?, with Dovecot 2.2.9
I have installed Sentora (http://sentora.org) which sets most of the configuration up for Postfix up, I have made some changes to allow me to use certificates for IMAP and SMTP SSL (https://skippy.org.uk/lets-encrypt-postfix-and-dovecot/),

question on lmtp logged message
Hi,
I have dovecot running for IMAP4/POP3 and also local delivery
through LMTP. It's working just fine, absolutely no problem on that,
setup is fine.
Anyway, sometimes LMTP seems to not be able to deliver some
messages and keep them on postfixqueue. And on the next or third try,
the message gets delivered successfully. The logged message, however, is
not helping me identify

2.3.7 slower than 2.3.6?
We're using dovecot (via LMTP) as a backup for all incoming mail.
I upgraded from 2.3.6 to 2.3.7 on the 12th:
2019-07-12 14:35:44 upgrade dovecot-imapd:amd64 2:2.3.6-2~bionic 2:2.3.7-8~bionic
and it seems that 2.3.7 is slower than 2.3.6 -- mail to the backup
IMAP box is suddenly taking quite some time to get delivered and is piling up
in the queue.

need help with dovecot-lda
Hello all!
Some month ago I upgraded our dovecot installation from version 1.0.5
to version 2.1.7 without having any trouble. Postfix is delivering
email directly per virtual transport to the maildirs and mailboxes of
the users in /var/spool/vhosts/domains/....
Now I want to use dovecot-lda and created a new entry in the master.cf
of postfix.
