[v2v PATCH] docs: remove paragraph about VMware tools on Windows
Starting from libguestfs/virt-v2v 1.39.12, virt-v2v attempts to uninstall the VMware tools from Windows guests, so there is no need to remove them manually before the conversion. Announce: VMware NUT client for ESXI 5.0
Dear NUT users, I recently came across an interesting effort to integrate NUT with WMware ESXI, made by Ren? Garcia. This is still rough and young, but already providing a good support: http://www.networkupstools.org/download.html#_virtualization_packages We will work jointly in the coming months, Ren?, Aur?lien (from Eaton) and myself, with the support from Eaton (which is a VMware partner),

v2v vmware converter
Hi Matt, I was taking a look on v2v to implement vSphere and I have few questions: 1) the converter should be in: Sys::VirtConvert::Converter::VMWare ( or Vsphere) ? 2) What you think if instead to mess up with the xml converter we gonna use a XSL file that take the OVF file and transform it in KVM like xml file ? Cheers, Francesco

Self heal problem
Hi, I have a glusterfs volume replicated on three nodes. I am planing to use the volume as storage for vMware ESXi machines using NFS. The reason for using tree nodes is to be able to configure Quorum and avoid split-brains. However, during my initial testing when intentionally and gracefully restart the node "ned", a split-brain/self-heal error occurred. The log on "todd"

init.d scripts not starting at boot
I have just deployed a new CentOS 6.4 image on AWS, and I'm having issues with init.d scripts not starting up. I've verified the following; 1) They work on their own after boot 2) They're set to run at runlevel 3,4, and 5 via chkconfig 3) The system boots up in runlevel 3 (no GUI) 4) There are no lingering PID files around after boot 5) Permissions

Enterprise puppet and VMware VM deployment
Does Enterprise Puppet use VSphere SDK API to deploy VMware VM? If not, what does it use? a peculiar LVM failure on CentOS 6 run as a VMware 5.5 guest
Hello listmates, I have encountered a rather peculiar situation. We have a Centos 6 VM (64 bit) running on a VMware vSphere 5.5 server. It was running just fine until one day I decided to reboot it and it just would not boot up. Effectively, dracut failed to initialize the LVM, much like under the scenario described here:

Physical-to-Virtual (VMware) & SELinux
Hello guys, I have a couple of servers that I'm about to virtualize to our VMware Vsphere ecosystem. For Linux servers I read that one needs to use the stand-alone converter (which is a live-cd that you boot from it and then you point it to your destination ESX). I would like to know from folks that have already done so...what was your experience like? Did everything went smooth? Any

Virtualization platform choice
Some may be bored with the subject - sorry... Still not decided about virtualization platform for my "webhotel v2" (ns, mail, web servers, etc.). KVM would be a natural way to go, I suppose, only it is too bad CentOS 6 will not be out in time for me - I guess KVM would be more mature in CentOS 6. Any experience with the free "VMware vSphere Hypervisor"?. (It was formerly

init script as provided http://wiki2.dovecot.org/DovecotInit
Hello list, I would add: # dovecot Startup script for the dovecot server # # chkconfig: - # processname: dovecot # config: /path/to/config # pidfile: /path/to/pid So that it supports the chkconfig used by RHEL and clones too. Also, maybe it should be installed by the Makefile's install target? it could then also set: DAEMON=/path/to/dovecot/daemon instead of:

heartbeat, drbd init scripts and chkconfig
Hi, We are using the heartbeat and drbd packages from latest centos (4.3) extras repository. Upon installation of both packages I noticed that if you "chkconfig heartbeat off" that will cause drbd to chkconfig'ed on. And visa versa. After doing some trouble shooting it turns out the "BEGIN INIT INFO" sections appear to be the cause. drbd has: ### BEGIN INIT INFO #

Shutdown CentOS VM when closing VMWare Workstation
Hello, I'm using CentOS 5.5 / 16bit as a virtual machine in VMWare Workstation and have installed the "VMWare Tools" by running vmware-install.pl and vmware-config-tools.pl but can't figure out how to make the VM shutdown, when I shutdown the Windows PC hosting it. Does anybody please have any hints or scripts? Do I need to use any VMWare modules if I just want to shutdown the

rsyslog as default syslog daemon?
Hi all! Is anybody here using rsyslog? I am looking for the right solution how to use rsyslog in CentOS 5 as the default logging daemon. We use it because of filtering using regular expressions. I switched from sysklogd to rsyslog simply using chkconfig --del syslog chkconfig --add rsyslog chkconfig rsyslog on service syslog stop service rsyslog start but this seems not to be

How to setup a "secondary DNS server" pulling zones from Win2k3?
Hello, we have a mixed environment at work: CentOS + Win2003 servers. The Win2k3 part contains: AD, DNS (inlc. dyndns), DHCP, DFS, Exchange. The CentOS part: NIS passwords + also a DNS server. So currently we have to update the Linux DNS server zone infos by hand: I export a text file from Windows DNS server and then edit it around using vim. On the Windows side however it's easy for me to

Init.d script troubleshooting.
I got a strange problem with init.d scripts on a fully updated (as of today) fresh install of 5.5 x64. I've written a script, /etc/init.d/Fast that starts a fairly large and slow commercial application, by calling that applications control binary to do the actual work. I "registered" the script, via chkconfig --add Fast, and the symlinks are in the expected places. [root at
