How to configure time on virtual clients using KVM?
I use a CentOS5.8 server with KVM. I have several virtual machines running on it. When I reboot the server (takes 10 minutes) all VMs are saved and correctly restored. The time on the clients is however of by 10 minutes. nptd is running on the clients and that is able to correct this big mismatch. But what I don't understand is that the host does not seem to help the client with it's

Clock fast - work around
Well, to the clock being fast work around, I kind of found a way to work around it for now... 1) use a distribution that supports VMI (VMware's paravirtualization) 2) enable VMI paravirtualization support in VMware Workstation 6 VM's profile 3) use vmi-timer as the clocksource (as opposed to pit, acpi_pm, etc.) 4) CPU must be constantly at maximum frequency For 1), I use Ubuntu 7.10 For

Follow-up on Fast clock under VMWare
Hi everyone: Just a follow up on the fast clock issue: "Can you double-check that 'cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_max_freq' outputs the same number as your 'cpuKHZ' setting in your config.ini file?" There is no cpufreq directory under /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0; all I see is "cache" (dir), "crash_notes" (a file) and

2.6.37 dom0 under Xen 4.1 clocksource not working
When booting 2.6.37 (from kernel.org) under Xen 4.1, there are apparently issues with timer interrupts being delivered to the dom0. Repeatedly causing an interrupt (for example, the ACPI power button) will allow the system to boot, as does adding "clocksource=jiffies" to the kernel command line. This is only present under Xen, not when booting the same kernel on real hardware. When boot

Libvirt to return the ip address instead of the hostname during migration
Hi all, We are working on nova live-migration using Ceph and trying to work around the problem where vm migration fails if name resolution is not enabled in a cluster. See the link, https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Virtualization_Host_Configuration_and_Guest_Installation_Guide/App_Migration_Address.html We have managed to work around this by setting

KVM and Windows "/use pmtimer"
http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5/html/Virtualization/chap-Virtualization-KVM_guest_timing_management.html Want to get some more people's opinion on this: the above doc says to use the boot parameter "/use pmtimer" to use the RTC "instead of the TSC for all time sources which resolves guest timing issues". One: does this have any bearing on

Missing module grub entry in xen-4.4.3-9 & boot issues
I've also had a few Xen systems grub entry issues. I'm not yet sure what triggers the events, but I do think there *may* be a correlation to the "/boot" part. I've found the Xen servers that have "/boot" before any of the the lines like "/boot/xen.gz" ended up missing complete grub entries. Not sure it's 100% true. Anyone else comment? Thanks PJ On

Running libvirt on a virtualized server
Hi everyone I'm trying to create a virtual machine using OpenNebula [1] on a centos 6.4 server, but i'm facing some erros using kvm / libvirt. This server is running on a virtual machine created on XCP. Then, my infrastructure is: XCP 1.6 (hypervisor - dom0) + CentOS 6.4 (running on a XCP VM) + OpenNebula 4.0.1 (installed on CentOS). In the host machine, I have the same infrastructure.

Missing module grub entry in xen-4.4.3-9 & boot issues
HI, We've started to see several issues with the Xen releases. Going back to basics I've used this guide https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/Xen4QuickStart Once the install process is complete the grub.conf looks like this: default=0 timeout=5 splashimage=(hd0,0)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz hiddenmenu title CentOS (3.18.21-17.el6.x86_64) root (hd0,0) kernel /boot/xen.gz

how to add file-based disk space to a guest

Xen clock drift
Hello All, Consider a CentOS-5.1 Xen server (2.6.18-53.1.4.el5xen) hosting two domains running CentOS-5.1 (2.6.18-53.1.4.el5). One domain has a fairly accurate clock, the other domain has a clock that gains ungodly amounts of time, roughly one minute every two or three minutes. For a fix, one suggestion is to run this command in DomU: echo 1 > /proc/sys/xen/independent_wallclock This

real time clock drift
This must be documented somewhare but I checked the Xen 3.0 manual and the word "clock" doesn''t even exist in it. I checked the FAQ as well. I am running Xen 3.0.1 and an AMD64 CPU. I found that DOMUs time clock drifts ahead. I installed ntpdate and it reports to change the time but it does not. David _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list

adf test: trend, no drift - rep: invalid 'times' argument
Hello! I am applying the ADF.test function from package uroot to a time series of data. When I apply the full test, incorporating drift and trend terms, the regressor estimate of the drift term is not significantly different from zero. So I apply the test to a model without drift term, with deterministic trend only. But then I always get the following error:
