openssh remote add user exploits?
Hello. Recently I discovered some kind of exploit of openssh used against
me. For configuration info, I am using Mandrake 8.2 with the openssh
package openssh-3.1p1-1mdk.
Fortunately, I was at least somewhat security-aware, and have an
AllowUsers parameter in my sshd config file. I Used to allow only public
key logins, but ditched that when I found myself needing access from
multiple places. I

[PATCH 2/3] New API: lvm_scan, deprecate vgscan (RHBZ#1602353).
The old vgscan API literally ran vgscan. When we switched to using
lvmetad (in commit dd162d2cd56a2ecf4bcd40a7f463940eaac875b8) this
stopped working because lvmetad now ignores plain vgscan commands
without the --cache option.
We documented that vgscan would rescan PVs, VGs and LVs, but without
activating them.
I have introduced a new API (lvm_scan) which scans or rescans PVs, VGs
and LVs. It

AoE LVM2 DRBD Xen Setup
Hello everybody,
I am in the process of setting up a really cool xen serverfarm. Backend
storage will be an LVMed AoE-device on top of DRBD.
The goal is to have the backend storage completely redundant.

Unable to access share on Encrypted Partition
Hi,
I would like some help. I am trying to set-up a share on an Encrypted
Partition of my Home Server.
I'm using opensuse 11.4 with samba version
3.5.7-3.5.1-2573-SUSE-SL11.4-i386.
This is something that I know has worked with earlier versions of openSuSE
and samba.
My smb.conf looks like this:
==START==
[global]
workgroup = buffalonet
passdb backend = tdbsam
printing = cups

interesting kvm lvm collision issue
I've been running into a reproducible problem when using default LVM volume
group names to present block devices for virtual machines in KVM, and I'm
wondering why it is happening.
On dom0 I make a default VolGroup00 for the operating system. I make a
second VolGroup01 for logical volumes that will be block devices for virtual
systems.
In VolGroup01, I make two lv's for one system:

Moving LVM from one machine to another
My CentOS4 machine died (CPU cooler failure, causing CPU to die).
In this machine I had 5 Tbyte disks in a RAID5, and LVM structures
on that.
Now I've moved those 5 disks onto a CentOS5 machine and the RAID array
is being rebuilt. However the LVM structures weren't detected at boot
time. I was able to "vgscan" and 'vgchange -a y' to bring the volume
online and then

"Can't find root device" with lvm root after moving drive on CentOS 6.3
I have an 8-core SuperMicro Xeon server with CentOS 6.3. The OS is
installed on a 120 GB SSD connected by SATA, the machine also contains
an Areca SAS controller with 24 drives connected. The motherboard is a
SuperMicro X9DA7.
When I installed the OS, I used the default options, which creates an
LVM volume group to contain / and /home, and keeps /boot and /boot/efi
outside the volume group.

LVM 0.9.1beta7 and ext3 0.0.6b
Hi,
I've recently been playing about with recent ext3 0.0.6b and lvm 0.9.1
beta7 and am now able to trigger an "Attempt to refile free buffer"
assertion.
This seems to "only" occur when using ext3 on the root filesystem.
Possibly that is related to the fact that the lvm utility I'm using to
reproduce this problem is modifying data in /etc.
The easist reproduction

How do boot a xen domu into run level 1
Hi,
I have a C5.8 machine with several DomU's. I fubared the fstab on one of them
and I need to get it into single user mode.
Does anyone know how to do that? I tried adding single to the extras line
in /etc/xen/machine_name but it still tries to start in level 3.
To make things worse, the root partition is on LVM.
Alternatively, does anyone know how to access the image from DomU? I tried
