Creating a geographical grid
I would like to create a geographical grid to have a sort of a reference grid for my georeferenced survey data. The grid should be in a xy format, wgs1984 with a 0.025 degree, alternatively 10km, resolution covering -14 to -24 S and 24 to -34 E (Zimbabwe). Additionally I need to be able to export it as a .dbf Hope someone can help an R- novice ! [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Running R in a sandbox
Hello, The idea is to grant access of remote users to R running on Linux. Users must have ability to run their R scripts but avoid corrupting the operating system. How one can restrict/limit access of remote users to certain R functions? For example, dealing with IO (file system), graphical tools, etc. Thank you. -- Kind regards, Antonio Rodriges

spatial plots maps-ssplot
Hi all, I have made a plot with ssplot, using a SpatialPointsDataFrame. The content is quite simple, as I have 9 grid points with lon/lat coordinates and 9 values attached to these coordinates. They are in a square area of 3 by 3 gridboxes. I would like to lay a map from maps() over these values, but when I try this, the grids of the maps (smaller) do not overlap with the grids I have

how do you interpolate a gaussian grid to a standard 2.5 degree grid?
Dear R-help community, I have looked on the R search site and archives but cannot find mention of a way of interpolating a gaussian distribution of data to a standard 2.5 degree grid. I have two global dataset and I need to correlate - unfortunately one is a 2.5 degree grid dim[longitude=144,latitude=72] and one is gaussian dim[longitude=192,latitude=94]. I would rally appreciate hearing

plotting x y z data from an irregular grid
Hi, I'm trying to plot some data (z) that is linked to lat&long coordinates (x&y). These coordinates are not however on a regular grid. I also have some shapefiles on which I would like to overlay the data. I can plot the shapefiles (country/city outlines) and overplot the data, but only using quilt.plot because I otherwise always get the error message that 'Error in

help to use ppp in spatial analysis
Hi, i am using spatstat package for spatial data analysis and now i have a problem to create a point pattern. The points are in file "points.txt" (first column for Latitude and second column for Longitude ) and I imported them and separated each columns in two arrays x and y. If I plots x and y ( e.g plot(x,y) ) the result appears in square area without problems and the scale is

How to average values from grid cells with coordinates
Hi lily, You could also create "blackcells" as a dataframe (which is itself a type of list). I used a list as I thought it would be a more general solution if there were different numbers of values for different grid cells. The use of 1 for the comparison was due to the grid increments being 1. If you had larger or smaller grid increments, you would use the grid increment size for the

How to average values from grid cells with coordinates
Hi lily, There are one or two assumptions to be made here. First is that the latitude and longitude values of the "black" cells are equally spaced as in your illustration. Second, that all latitude and longitude values for the "red" cells fall at the corners of four "black" cells. You can get the four "black" cells by finding the lat/lon values that are

How to draw partial grid in plot for spatial-binomial experiment?
DeaR comRades: I have a 2D spatial binomial process as shown in the data and code below. I am plotting the number of trials and the number of successes in the spatial binomial experiments and would like to draw the spatial cells were the trials and successes were counted, i.e. a partial grid in the plot only for those cells where there is a number. The cells are 2x2 km cells. The count of Trials

make a grid with longitude, latitude and bathymetry data
hi, i have a longitude vector (x) a latitude vector (y) and a matrix of bathymetry (z) with the dimensions (x,y). I have already succeeded in plotting it with the image.plot (package 'field') and the contour functions. But now, I want to make a grid in order to extract easily the bathymetry corresponding to a couple of longitude, latitude coordinates. Do you know a function or a

Using an image background with graphics
I would like to use a map or aerial photo as a background to plotting solid lines and text, and semi-transparent color contours, in base and lattice graphics. Plot coordinates need to be consistent with the georeferenced background. For example, a color contour plot would have an gray-toned aerial photograph as a background for overprinted semi-transparent color contours of some spatially

Restricting R session
Hello, Is it possible to use R on public server where each user has its own restricted R session? In particular, how to prohibit some set of functions, for example, from "base" package? How to limit session operating memory and CPU time? What additional security considerations must be taken care of? -- Kind regards, Antonio Rodriges

Grid on Map
I am new to R.I want to draw grid from a csv file which contains latitude minimum ,latitude maximum ,longitude minimum ,longitude maximum. The grid should be divided into exactly 4 quadrants. The map is of NY state of USA. I want to know how can I do it. Help would be appreciated. Thanks Jaimin [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Reshape package: Casting data to form a grid
Dear R Users, I'm trying to use the 'cast' function in the 'reshape' package to convert column-format data to gridded-format data. A sample of my dataset is as follows: head(finalframe) Latitude Longitude Temperature OrigLat p-value Blaney 1 -90 -38.75 NA -87.75 17.10167 NA 2 -90 135.75 NA -87.75 17.10167 NA 3 -90 80.25

How to average values from grid cells with coordinates
Hi R users, I have a question about data processing. I have such a dataset, while each black grid cell has a few attributes and the corresponding attribute values. The latitude and longitude of the center of each grid cell are given also. Then I want to average the attribute values from four adjacent grid cells to get the average value for the center of each red grid cell. Thus, there are the

GWR Predictions' standard deviation
Dear all, I would like to use a GWR model in order to spatially predict food insecurity in Africa. I have a georeferenced village data-bases and I've run a "classic" regression model (taking into account the spatial dependence of the errors) that works fairly well for Niger that is a quite homogenous country. Now, I would like to make the same thing for countries where it should be

Problems with bilinear interpolation of a grid
Dear all, I'm having trouble interpolating a number of gridded datasets that I have. I'm quite new to R so any help/advice that can be offered would be much appreciated! Firstly I'll describe my dataset. The data is a grid of the planet at 1 degree spatial resolution, with each grid cell containing a value describing a particular variable (e.g. population density) for coordinate

non-linear trends in kriging model
Hi I am struggling to fit a non-linear trend using the likfit function in geoR. Specifically I want a sigmoidal function, something like SSfpl in the nls package to fit the trend. But it seems trend.spatial in geoR only works with lm or glm type models. Any ideas how I can specify the model to calculate the kriging parameters using REML, including the parameters of a sigmoidal trend function

nlme: correlation structure in gls and zero distance
Dear listers, I am trying to model the distribution of fox density over years in the Doubs department. Measurements have been taken on 470 plots in March each year and georeferenced. Average density is supposed to be different each year. In a first approach, I would like to use a general model of this type, taking spatial correlation into account:
