Per a discussion with an Internet2 professor this PM:
ACHTUNG: Note the repo is apparently without SRPMs so it becomes
difficult to vet.
Further, no mirrors have been spotted, which is not to say there

Yes another "I can't open port 53 for Bind DNS"
Hi,
It's just past 3am and for the past 6 hours I've been
configuring a secondary name server to replace one that just crashed.
My problem appears to be that port 53 is not open for some reason on my
server even though I have this:
[root at tribe etc]# netstat -an | grep ":53 "
tcp 0 0 205.211.154.3:53

BIND 9.7.3 -- TCP DoS in SO_ACCEPTFILTER
The release notes for BIND 9.7.3 contain this:
* A bug in NetBSD and FreeBSD kernels with SO_ACCEPTFILTER enabled
allows for a TCP DoS attack. Until there is a kernel fix, ISC is
disabling SO_ACCEPTFILTER support in BIND. [RT #22589]
The CHANGES file also says:
2996. [security] Temporarily disable SO_ACCEPTFILTER support.

tkey-gssapi-credential and bind (Samba4)
So I am in step 10 of the samba4 howto
(https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/HOWTO#Step_10_Configure_kerberos_DNS_dynamic_updates);
my bind9 is 9.7.3 which seems to be current enough for this. In it we
are to add
tkey-gssapi-credential "DNS/samdom.example.com";
tkey-domain "SAMDOM.EXAMPLE.COM";
to /etc/bind/named.conf.options. Since my test domain is
test.domain.com,

http://www.securityweek.com/high-severity-bind-vulnerability-advisory-issued
US-CERT encourages users and administrators using the affected
versions of BIND to upgrade to BIND 9.7.3.
Optionally, one can wait on a backport.

Strange su behavior after installing latest CentOS updates
I did a "yum update" on my CentOS 6 systems yesterday for the first time in about a month and now have some automated processes failing because the PATH is not set up correctly when using "su". The problem is very easy to see by comparing the output of the following two commands:
# su - <user> -c "env | grep PATH"
# su <user> -c "env | grep

bind slave sync takes long
Hi,
I do have two DNS servers running bind 9.7.3. One master, one slave.
If I add/update a record on the master, it takes up to more or less 20
hours until that change is transferred to the slave.
That is a long time for me :-) May be I got some settings wrong which
would sync much faster ... ?
What could be wrong? What might I check?
Thanks for any suggestion and hint!
Regards . G?tz

various DNS scenarios / setups with samba4 + BIND9
Hello everybody,
I am not sure which DNS setup will fit best for my suites. I can imagine,
that there are a lot of users out there using also BIND9 servers in their
environment and can share their experience. In my case I am running
following setup:
I have two existing hosts running with DNS and DHCP services. I have setup a
DHCP-Cluster with isc-dhcp-server on both machines, that means I have a

current bind version
Hi.
I have had an enquiry from the Network and Security guy. He wants to
know why CentOS 5.5 /RHEL 5 is using a very old version of bind
"bind-chroot-9.3.6-4.P1.el5_5.3" when the latest release that has many
security fixes is on 9.7.3 . I understand that its to maintain a known
stable platform by in introducing new elements etc .. Is there an
official explanation / document that I can

NXDOMAIN dual-stacked, Samba4/Samba 3 AD setup
On my network, I'm finding that if I run
host saffron
on any machine on my network, I see saffron's IPv4 address, but not
its IPv6 address. This is true regardless of which joined machine I
run. I'd like to figure out how to fix this...
For any other machine on the network,
host $hostname
shows both that machine's IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. (With the odd
