wireless
Hello again, At this school I am working we are setting up a wireless network. What would be the best way to set up the system to this network? How should we log in to Samba? What should I consider. The wireless system has already been purchased by people who have left. Kind regards Anna-Karin

Fwd: Re: question regarding samba permissions

"continuous" boxplot?
I have two vectors x and y, which I would like to plot against each other. I am also displaying other data in this plot. However, I have about 1 million points to plot, and just plotting them x againt y is not very informative. What I'd like to do is to do sort of a continuous box plot. My x values goes from -1 to 1 and my y values from 0 to 1, so I?d like to plot the median and quantiles,

graphics guide?
I am trying to create some graphs with R and it seems to be able to do what I need. However, I have so far not been able to find any sort of explanation of how the graphics system works. I am for instance trying to create a multiple figure, and I seem to have to call plot.new() before every new plot command, I have however not found any explanation of what this actually does. ?plot.new does give

Samba Guide, SuSe and Yast
Hi, I'm using SuSe Linux Enterprise Server 9. I've setup a Samba/LDAP solution according to ch5 of the Samba Guide. It's working - that's great :-) Now I'd like to know if anyone tried to manage the users database using tools provided by Yast. Is there a risk to mess up everything ? Did anyone try that before ? Thanks for your help, Olivier Thibaut.

boxplot statistics
I have read and reread the boxplot and the boxplot stats page, and I still cannot understand how and what boxplot shows. I realize that this might be due to me not knowing enough statistics, but anyway... First, how does boxplot determine the size of the box? And is the line inside the box the mean or the median (or something completely different?) And how does it determine how long out the

multifigure question
I would like to put three figures next to each other in a figure. I have been reading the introduction to R, section 12 several times now, and I still can't make heads or tails out of it. Lets say that I have three dataframes a, b, c, and I want to plot a$V1, b$V1 and c$V1 in separate plots simply using plot(), how do I put them next to each other? I am sorry if this is a FAQ, but I cannot

compiz-0.7.6-16.1 - Forces Yast s/w management to full-screen no decorations
Listmates: For the past 1 or 2 compiz releases, for some reason it opens Yast software management full-screen with no window decorations in kde. kwin gives the normal windowed yast s/w management. Compiz also ignores the special windows settings in kde for this package. Is there anything I can check or tweak to correct this? Thanks. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Rankin Law Firm, PLLC 510

Performance and Optimization
The reasons I have posted these questions are: 1) To find out if Speex can take advantage of SIMD extensions. 2) To maybe learn from someone with previous experience in optimizing Speex for moderns x86 architectures before I set off trying all kinds of things on my own. Yast->Software Mgmt forced to full screen w/out Decorations - [Work Around]
List, For any of you using openSuSE and frustrated by Yast -> Software Management being forced to full-screen without any window decorations, an unlikely work-around has been discovered. Dev's, I don't know if this is compiz or KDE, but something is wrong. The work-around was discovered by accident while attempting to correct a sudo problem where sudo would prompt for the root

producing histogram-like plot
Hi! I have a dataset that looks like this: 0.0 14 0.0 3 0.9 12 0.73 15 0.78 2 1.0 15 0.3 2 0.32 8 ...and so on. I.e. a value between 0 and 1, and a number I would like to plot this in a histogram-like manner. I would like to have a set of bins, each 0.1 wide, and plot the sum of values in column 2 that falls within each bin. I.e, in this case I would like the first bin, 0.0, to have the

YAST configuration for SAMBA on SLES 10 broken
Hi all, I've just recently carried out 2 clean installs of SUSE SLES 10 (SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (i586) - Kernel 2.6.16.21-0.8-smp (0)) and have found on both occasions that the YAST configuration tool for SAMBA in this release is broken. Initial configuration seems to be OK, but whenever subsequent changes are made they are not reflected in smb.conf. Just a little frustrating!

multi-class histogram?
I am new to R, and I couldn't find the answers to my question in a faq. This could however be because I didn't know what to look for...:) I have three classes of data, data for bacteria, archaea and eukaryotes. I wish to display these in a histogram where all of the values are used to calculate each column. But, I want each column split in three, where the size of each coloured area

function on factors - how best to proceed
Sorry about this one being long, and I apologise beforehand if there is something obvious here that I have missed. I am new to creating my own functions in R, and I am uncertain of how they work.
