Question about filesystem ownership
I've created a few OCFS filesystems (RHEL 3, OCFS 1.0.9-12) while
attempting to assign ownership by oracle:dba. I've done this both with
ocfstool and mkfs.ocfs. They both seem to accept the parameters, but the
resulting filesystem is always owned by root:root.
This is not a fatal problem, since we can just throw all of our
Oracle files into a properly-owned subdirectory in each

Samba 3.6 directory ACLs
I have ACLs working for files with the following set in my share
definitions:
inherit permissions = yes
inherit acls=yes
map acl inherit=yes
vfs_objects = acl_tdb
While testing my Samba configuration, I found that permissions are being set
to 'special' for directories being copied from Windows instead of the ACL
being fully populated. Does Samba 3.6 fully implement ACLS, or are

Keeping shares when upgrading to Samba 4
I am upgrading a Samba 3.6 to 4 and wanted to keep my shares and files from the previous version. Will I be able to maintain file metadata in the switch?

Maintain file ownership when saving office documents
Hello.
If a user stores an existing office document on a samba share, he takes
ownership of it automatically. Office writes a new file. (Different
inode, same name) Is there a possibility of going this round and keeping
the owner?

Samba compile docs
I am interested in compiling Samba 4 and trying the advanced features. I
followed the instructions on samba.org to build and compile, though I get
the error: failed program.confdefs.h. I have run into this error before,
and looking over config log, I see that the build does not see many of the
dependencies.
Can I modify the build to point to the required files, or at least trace the

Samba build errors (Derek Lewis)
Jorell,
I installed the packages from your list and attempted to build with your configuration. I still get errors during build referring to swrap_close or nwrap_getgrnam.
Also I did not use. /autogen.she, just config and make.

Prevent Samba clients from changing group ownership?
How can I prevent Samba clients from changing the group ownership of files?
With the security mask parameter I can prevent Samba clients from
changing some permission bits, but I can't find a parameter to prevent
changing the group ownership

maintaining ownership with cygwin/rsync?
OK, I know a lot about unix environments and am very familiar with
rsync (and a big fan). My MS windows knowledge is at "I play a doctor
on TV" stage. Hmm. OK, the analogy needs work. I know what the words
mean and can stumble my way through many common problems.
And now I'm trying to use rsync (2.6.3) from the most recent cygwin
distribution. It works fine, except that

reload/restarting puppetd after puppet.conf change
Subject basically says it all. Anyone have a good idea of how to get
puppetd restarted after installing a updated puppet.conf? Using the
Service types obviously doesn''t work since puppet is already running.
Is there no, please reload your config on the next run option? I mean
there is always some screwing with a cronjob to just restart puppet once
and awhile but I dunno I was

as is the mount point.
How do I mount share & retain

ownership of authorized_keys (different question)
that "ownership of authorized_keys" question remembered be of
a problem we had end of last year.
we have some accounts where the user places files to process
in the home directory (by scp/sftp), a process running as a
diffent user processes those files and puts the results
back to the users homedir.
the homedir belongs to the user and the other users group
with rw access for the user

Proper unix ownership/Permissions for top level share
I am using zfs on linux to store my file shares on. When I create a new
file system, they have the following permissions:
[root at server ~]# zfs create tank/testsystem
[root at server ~]# ls -Al /tank
drwxrwxrwx+ 10 root root 27 Jun 2 20:10 Software
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 2 Jun 3 07:43 testsystem
At this point, if I use the rsat and attempt to set ACL, I get
permission

changing owner and group
Is there a way to prevent a samba connection from changing the file owner and group?
Users connect to the website on a linux box from windows desktops with Dreamweaver.
Each time a user edits a file that file's owner and group is changed from apache and developers to username and username, thus preventing other users from editing the file.
Can I set an option in samba to leave the owner and

Design flaw with Fixtures?
I''ve been trying to add unit testing for collection of models with
complex relationships -- and failing miserably.
Because of the complexity of the relationships, I''m using a database
which validates foreign key constraints (PostgreSQL 8).
I''m finding it nearly impossible to generate tests that are independent
of each other. The basic problem is the DELETE then

Listening on multiple ports
Many thanks - it doesn't work for me, however. There must be something
in my configuration somewhere else, perhaps nothing to do with Dovecot,
that prevents this.
