GlusterFs - Any new progress reports?
GlusterFs always strikes me as being "the solution" (one day...). It's
had a lot of growing pains, but there have been a few on the list had
success using it already.
Given some time has gone by since I last asked - has anyone got any more
recent experience with it and how has it worked out with particular
emphasis on Dovecot maildir storage? How has version 3 worked out for

I think you are talking about DRBD 8, which is indeed very easy. DRBD 9
on the other hand, which is the one that compares to gluster (more or
less), is a whole other story. Never managed to make it work correctly

Recover botched drdb gfs2 setup .
Hi.
The short story... Rush job, never done clustered file systems before,
vlan didn't support multicast. Thus I ended up with drbd working ok
between the two servers but cman / gfs2 not working, resulting in what
was meant to be a drbd primary/primary cluster being a primary/secondary
cluster until the vlan could be fixed with gfs only mounted on the one
server. I got the single server

DRBD,GFS2 and GNBD without all clustered cman stuff
Hi all,
Where i want to arrive:
1) having two storage server replicating partition with DRBD
2) exporting via GNBD from the primary server the drbd with GFS2
3) inporting the GNBD on some nodes and mount it with GFS2
Assuming no logical error are done in the last points logic this is the
situation:
Server 1: LogVol09, DRDB configured as /dev/drbd0 replicated to Server 2.
DRBD seems to work

CTDB+GFS2+CMAN. clean_start="0" or clean_start="1"?
Hi everybody,
I have tested CTDB+GFS2+CMAN under Debian. It works good but I do not
understand some points.
It is possible to run the CTDB defining it under services section in
cluster.conf but running it on the second node shuts down the process at the
first one. My CTDB configuration implies 2 active-active nodes.
Does CTDB care if the node starts with clean_start="0" or

remote hot site, IMAP replication or cluster over WAN
Taking a survey.
1. How many of you have a remote site hot backup Dovecot IMAP server?
2. How are you replicating mailbox data to the hot backup system?
A. rsync
B. DRBD+GFS2
C. Other
Thanks.

Phone system layout suggestions
I am thinking about a change to our company's phone "layout" and would like
to get comments from people who have done something similar.
Currently, we have 3 locations - each with their own Asterisk PBX. The
corporate office has a PRI. Each remote location has a SIP provider for
5 channels of SIP going to their own PBX. Interoffice calls use the PSTN.
Most inbound calls come to

Best Cluster Storage
Hi Everyone,
I wish to create a Postfix/Dovecot active-active cluster (each node will
run Postfix *and* Dovecot), which will obviously have to use central
storage. I'm looking for ideas to see what's the best out there. All of
this will be running on multiple Xen hosts, however I don't think that
matters as long as I make sure that the cluster nodes are on different

Corrupted mboxes with v2.2.4, posix_fallocate and GFS2
Hi,
on a clustered Dovecot server installation that was recently moved from a
shared GPFS filesystem to GFS2, occasional corruptions in the users'
INBOXes started appearing, where a new incoming message would be appended
directly after a block of NUL bytes, and be scanned by dovecot as being
glued to the preceding message.
I traced this to the file extension operation performed in

Bug vfs module gpfs:winattrs ?
Hello,
does this bug still exists: http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/IPyW4fzzpEetiWKnJyfJ ?
It seems that I have the same problem, although "store dos attributes" is set (Samba 3.6.18; GPFS 3.5.0-11).

IBM GPFS filesystem
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone might be able to speak about using IBM's GPFS
filesystem as a means of storing virtual guests in a clustered environment
with CentOS as the nodes and KVM as the hypervisor?
I'm looking at using IBM's TSM software for archiving data from disk to
tape. This requires buying a license for GPFS which is used in conjunction
with TSM but can also be used

cannot set gpfs:sharemodes to yes
Hi,
I'm trying to set up samba share exporting gpfs filesystem and I strugle
with setting sharemode to yes. Samba is 3.6.5, gpfs version is 3.2.1-29
(the latest available for 3.2 branch). Everything works fine when sharemode
is set to no, but I'd rather insist to switch it to yes. That's what man
page says:
no - do not propagate sharemodes across all GPFS nodes. This should only

Samba 3.0.28 with VFS-Module "GPFS"
Hi Rob,
on your Info for Version 3.0.25 you pointed out the VFS-Module GPFS for
using features of the underlaying GPFS-Filesystem.
Also the man-pages-3/vfs_gpfs.8.html points to that module, but I can't
find it anywhere.
We are using a GPFS 3.2 3-Node Samba Cluster (3.0.24/28) on Dell HW.
We would be very glad if it is posible to get

Asterisk HA Current Thoughts (Centos 5.3 Platform)
I'm looking into doing an HA setup for a Asterisk 1.4 install on
Centos. I've seen a number of different pointers to packages for this
some of which are packages that seem quite dated from an update
perspective (Ultra Monkey links I've seen haven't been updated in a
while). What is the current best practice on this for this platform?

ACLs on a directory on GPFS
Hello,
I am using the vfs_gpfs samba module to map ACLs through samba. It works
fine on files, but directory ACLs are ignored. Ex:
getfacl /sb/share/myplace/
file: sb/share/myplace/
owner: root
group: root
user::rwx
user:afrankel:rwx
group::---
mask::rwx
other::---
When I try to access this folder in Windows, I get permission denied.
The same permissions on a files, I can open it / modify it

Patch for GPFS support
List,
We, IBM, have developed a patch that enhances RSYNC.
This patch provides extensions to RSYNC to map to and use filesystem
extensions present in the IBM GPFS cluster filesystem.
(GPFS is a cluster filesystem for Linux and AIX that provides additional
attributes such as NFSv4 ACLs, extended attributes and windows attributes
in addition to the common posix permissions)
This will greatly

Patch for GPFS support
Hi all
My apologies for dragging up a very old mail from the depths of the
rsync archives:
http://lists.samba.org/archive/rsync/2008-October/021963.html
I'm trying to use Ronnie's patch to get rsync to copy my GPFS NFSv4
ACLs. I'm having trouble building Ronnie's gpfs.c though - it turns out
my programming isn't up to a challenge greater than "configure; make"!
