samba4 on debian squeeze
I'm setting up a debian squeeze file server with NFS mounted home
directories and authentication via ldap. Now I want to give Windows users
access to those same home directories. I thought I'd try samba4. I figure I
have nothing to lose since this is a virtual machine and if I don't like the
results, I can just restore from a snapshot. Its not a production machine
yet.
I'd

smbpasswd + ldap questions
I would like to have sync'd Unix and Samba passwords. My Unix passwords
are stored in OpenLDAP for uniformity across machines and services. I
have some problems with the standard solutions to this problem though:
* if I have Samba authenticate from OpenLDAP directly (using the
smbPassword attribute), then I get sync'ing problems when the password
is changed via normal Unix means. We

I am trying to follow the instructions here:
https://xapian.org/docs/bindings/php/
It doesn't seem to say how to actually download the files. Can anybody
clear that up for me? Thanks.

a few more questions...
Hello everyone,
I sent the last email prematurely - I had a few more questions. I
don't wish to start a holy war here, but are there certain OSs /
Distros that are preferred for running very busy icecast servers?
We're a Solaris shop currently, but don't mind using linux or BSD if
that would make things easier.
I see there is a Fedora Core RPM on the icecast page - does that

Questions about file system support in Samba
I'm a relative newcomer to Samba, but very experienced with computers and
linux. I'm attempting to build a file/backup server for a small shop. I'm
using Fedora core 4 and samba on a system with a 2.1 TB RAID 50 array
formatted as 1 very large xfs partition. I want to share directories
(folders) within the partition with a few Windows XP-Pro SP2 systems which
are our primary

using so-library involving Taucs
Dear R developers,
The trace of the hat matrix H~(n,n) is computed as follows:
tr(H) = tr(BS^-1B') = tr(S^-1B'B) := tr(X) = sum(diag(X))
with B~(n,p), S~(p,p).
Since p is of the order 10^3 but S is sparse I would like to employ
Taucs linear solver ( http://www.tau.ac.il/~stoledo/taucs/ ) on
SX = B'B.
(Further improvement by implying a looping over i=1,...,p, calling

Attempts to install a Windows driver from WinPE
One of the things we would really like to be able to do for V2V is to
install a new driver in a Windows guest. There are a couple of reasons
for this:
* The guest may not be bootable without the driver installed, for
example because the underlying virtual hardware has changed from vmscsi
to virtio.
* If the guest can boot, the alternative is to modify the guest to run a
script on next boot.

windows 2000/xp authentication through samba/ldap?
I run the computers in a small shop and want to change my users
from using the local accounts on their windows boxes to a central
account managed through ldap (openldap). I now have samba working
with ldap and using ldap for authenticating shares as windows users
ask for those shares to be mounted to their workstations. What I
want is for the initial ctl-alt-del login to authenticate through

Cent LDAP server
Forgive my ignorance on this topic - I would like to build an LDAP
server at our shop. We a native 2k3 domain and would like this Cent LDAP
server to pull in all the info from AD. Then periodically, have the Cent
server sync with new addition/subtractions of AD.
Is there a How-To out there somewhere that someone can point me to?
I don't want to recreate the wheel by hand-inputing information

ZFS on Linux in production?
We are a CentOS shop, and have the lucky, fortunate problem of having
ever-increasing amounts of data to manage. EXT3/4 becomes tough to
manage when you start climbing, especially when you have to upgrade, so
we're contemplating switching to ZFS.
As of last spring, it appears that ZFS On Linux http://zfsonlinux.org/
calls itself production ready despite a version number of 0.6.2, and

Remote Agents
Hi,
First a little background: the company that I work at have currently
been using a Windows-based PBX solution called Televantage. We are
primarily a linux-based development shop but originally went with
Televantage on the recomendation of someone who no longer works with
us. Suffice to say, we have not been happy with that solution and I
have been investigating Asterisk as a replacement to

potential enterprise rails project
Hello Rubyists,
I''m in the position of being given the job to design and build a
mission-critical web facing application for a small but growing
enterprise. It is to be used by customers as needed, numbering in
the tens up to the hundreds. It will collect operational data,
particularly in a table around 50 columns wide, and potentially
millions of rows deep, most fields being numerical.

Puppet Setup Difficulty With SuSE
Oh where to begin? I work for a company that has not taken our Linux
or Unix server configuration management very seriously. We are
primarily a Windows shop but long story short upper-management has
taken the advice of our Windows Server admins and purchased BigFix
which is now IBM Tivoli Endpoint Management (TEM). I have tried for
over a month to get one of my SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES)

PDC & file server on same machine?
How much of a resource hog is a PDC? My understanding is that authentication
is done vs a BDC if available. I configured my new file server as the domain
PDC because I figured it would already have to run samba. I have two other
machines configured as BDCs to serve as logon servers.
I'm looking for opinions on whether I'm asking for performance problems by
making my file server the

these are vdsm-hooks, they run on the host, not on the engine (manager).
the engine does allow you, if

UI testing framework? (w/o selenium)
Hey all,
I am currently working on coming up w/ an easy to use, developer-centric web
testing framework to test a J2EE app with. (I have 3 rails apps in
production, love rspec, and am currently at a java shop).
I''ve looked at selenium, and it just doesn''t seem like it is ready for prime
time, and the target audience is developers. So, having said that, does
