cygwin 'QueryUserInfo' fails dueto samba error. Wazup?
I made progress in tracking down a problem on cygwin that's been bothering me for a while since Win7 and domain. when I do: > mkpasswd -D mkpasswd (434): [31] A device attached to the system is not functioning. A network trace shows that it's trying to get the home dir information from my main user. Wwhen it queries the info Samba returns STATUS UNSUCCESSFUL (indicated in network

0 length domain name & SCHANNEL can't be used to fetch trust account password?
I have a few errors I'm trying to chase down in an effort to get a Win7 client in my domain. WinXP works -- tested unjoining and rejoining today, and it can still join. I have the registry adds for DNSNameResolutionRequired=0 under LanmanServer&Client/Params (put it in both places in attempt to get things working), as well as a DomainCompatibilityMode=1 I've tried moving to winbind

Practicality of fixing samba's case mangling problems?
Samba has multiple areas of case mangling problems that cause incompatibilities when used with windows or linux clients. How viable is the idea of fixing the problems? Would the sky fall in if it preserved case, but either 'ignored it', or gave preference to matches that included the case as typed (vs. alternate case matches). The first would be fairly compatible with current Win

Concern: rsync failing to find some attributes in a file transfer?
I have a regular script I run to make static "snapshots" of my home file system, with each being all the files that changed in the past 24 hours. I just moved my home partition to a new harddisk w/more space. I ran the util and have gotten odd results each time I ran it. This one bothers me... as I'm not sure why the attrs would be missing. How can the names be transfered but no

why is my "nmbd" confused about network interfaces?
The only thing related to 'addresses' in my /etc/samba/smb.conf file is a "hosts allow": hosts allow = 192.168.3.0/24 127.1 I'm going to ignore the 'local hosts case, as if I solve the other, the localhost case may get solved by inference. I thought the 'hosts allow' would allow any host on the local 192.168.3.0/24 subnet. The hosts have no problems

dsgetdcname failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
Hello all. I have a Samba 3.5.4 server that we're attempting to join to an existing Windows 2008 ADS. Doing "net ads join" seems to go ok, and a follow up "net -P ads testjoin" says we're OK. However... at this point, doing "wbinfo -u" or "wbinfo -g" returns no data (the programs exit with erro code 0, and no output). Attempting to log into a

wbinfo; --getdcname vs --DSgetdcname
I'm wondering what the difference is between the two wbinfo functions, "getdcname" and "DSgetdcname". The help is not very helpful here: --dsgetdcname /|domain|/ Find a DC for a domain. --getdcname /|domain|/ Get the DC name for the specified domain. I have a Samba4 PDC that is returning different results for these depending upon whether it's run on the

problem upgrading 3.0.23->3.0.26
I'm trying to upgrade and old server from the 3.0.23 to the 3.0.26 version (suse93->suse103) (for brevity, abbreviating 3.0.23->.23, and 3.0.26->.26) It's not working as smoothly as I had hoped...and was wondering if anyone has seen similar behavior or if I have some "gotcha" that I haven't kept up on (quite possible, since I move my focus from product to

Failing to join an ADS domain
Hi, I am trying to join a microsoft AD domain using RHEL 5.3. I tried with the default Samba release (provided by redhat) with no luck. I've just upgraded to Samba 3.3.6 (using http://ftp.sernet.de/pub/samba/recent/rhel/5/x86_64/) but it still fails. The AD domain is "example.domain.org" and has its own DNS servers. My /etc/resolv.conf file redirects DNS queries to the AD DC DNS

Help with the Error Message in R "Error in 1:nchid : result would be too long a vector"
Hello Rui, Thanks a lot for your response. But, I will surely say that the data I attached is in long format as it has 18 rows (3 alternatives*3 questions* 2 individuals). Had it been a wide format data it would have had 6 rows (3 questions* 2 individuals). But, anyway thanks. Can I authenticate with windows UPN names using winbind? If so how?
Hi all, I am trying to set up an linux server that allows users to log in via their windows UPN names rather than their SamID's. I have set up two test boxes: debian linux 7 running Winbind Version 3.6.6 Ubuntu Linux 14.04 running Winbind version 4.1.6-Ubuntu. smb.conf is at bottom of this post. I've bound both linux boxen to our Active Directory Server running 2008R2 and can return
