SCCM and other MS tools compatibility with Samba 4.x.x (Functional level 2008R2)
Hello Folks, We're using Samba as AD servers along with Windows AD Servers (2008R2 FL). We also use SCCM (Current Branch) that is dependent on AD for lab deployments (Windows 10). Currently, SCCM (current branch) supports 2008R2 FL, but for how long??? Samba does not support 2012R2, 2016, 2019 FL. We'd like to remove the Windows Servers from our AD infrastructure, but would also like

Chain-loading from WDS to PXELinux on a different tftp server
Thanks for your email. Yes it does provide some insight into why I could hack a Linux DHCP server into providing enough PXE boot information for PXE 3 clients but PXE 2.1 were happy (ROMs under many circumstances need to use proxy dhcp 4011 - as documented by IBM on the link I shared earlier). It appears only the most latest Dell business systems have EFI 64 support, and the best you can expect

PXE booting WinPE with UEFI architecture
This got me closer, but it got to "Encapsulating winpe.wim..." and never went through the rest of the way. Ultimately PXELINUX apparently timed out and the machine rebooted. Here is relative portion of pxelinux: LABEL SCCM OSD Boot MENU LABEL ^2. SCCM OSD Boot com32 linux.c32 append wimboot initrdfile=bootmgr.exe,BCD,boot.sdi,winpe.wim TEXT HELP

Grant only one AD group to samba share ?
All, On my ubuntu linux machine here, I already have samba set up and configured with winbind to perform authentication against the local windows domain controller. Thankfully that part is all working fine - that was supposed to be the hard part. The issue I have now is: I need to grant members of a certain AD group access to share (this was supposed to be easy, but is not working) sanity check

Experiences migrating from SCCM to Puppet
Hello, I would like to know if there are any resources (success stories, comparisons, blogs...) regarding the use of puppet as a substitute to SCCM in Windows platforms. Would also love to hear success stories from Windows administrators using puppet. I''m somewhat skilled with puppet but not with SCCM, so I don''t even know if the scope of the products is really similar.

Grant or deny internet access based on Samba domain logon?
I am looking for some way to grant or deny internet access (that is, changing iptables rules) based on Samba domain logon. When a user logs on, I would like to run a script that modifies firewall rules based on the group that the user belongs to (this determines if he has internet access or not) and based on the workstation's IP address (so I know which IP address to grant internet access

Samba-4.8.5 and SCCM-5.0 Problem Extending the Schema
G'day All, We are trying to set up SCCM-5.0. Our AD test is Samba-4.8.5. SCCM requires schema changes, and Samba is rejecting these. Anyone tackled this? Ideas on how to proceed? The output thrown by the SCCM exe (extadsch.exe) is: Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager v5.00 (Build 8634) Copyright (C) 2011 Microsoft Corp. Failed to extend the Active Directory schema. Write access doesn't grant delete access?!
Hi all, I've got these permissions set on a folder: $ getfacl htdocs # file: htdocs # owner: root # group: users user::rwx group::rwx group:DOMAIN\134htdocs_access:rwx mask::rwx other::r-x The idea being that any users in the "htdocs_access" group in Active Directory will have full access to this "htdocs" folder, without interfering with the real owner/group of the

Grant Table Hyper Calls For Sharing Memory
I was following an email chain in the xen mailing list on HVM hypercalls on grant tables and the email chain link is below http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-devel/2007-03/msg00688.html This link says that we need not required hypercalls to share memory b/w HVM''s. But as far as my understanding of sharing memory is concerned, I think the memory is shared using grant table

net rpc rights grant root SeDiskOperatorPrivilege failed with "Failed to grant privileges for root (NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED)"
Hi, I have a samba server setup as a domain member. I am trying to grant SeDiskOperatorPrivilege to some user accounts e.g. "domainaname\User", but I always get the above error. It doesnot matter what I specify as the server in -S option to the command. The command syntax I use is: net rpc rights grant "username" SeDiskOperatorPrivilege OR net -S ADserver -U

Grant table corruption with HVM guest
I''m experiencing total grant table corruption on a system and I''m hoping my symptoms will ring a bell with a member of the Xen developer community. The setup is Xen 4.0.0-RC2 (OpenSUSE 11.2 package) on a Nehalem system. The sole guest instance is 64bit FreeBSD running in HVM mode, a single vcpu, and a PCI passed-through LSI Logic 1068e SAS controller. FreeBSD is running

Allow single sub-folder access on an otherwise prohibited share - why does the solution work?
Hi list, I have managed to grant a specific user access to a sub-folder (sub-level 3 from the share's entry point, I think) on a Samba 4 share he/she is not allowed and not able to access in total/general. I tried 2 different ways with one of them working. I'd like to discuss why that is. For the sake of an example, let's say the share is for teaching material (exam templates,

net rpc rights grant: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
RE: "net rpc rights grant testpc1 SePrintOperatorPrivilege -U testpc1" Failed to grant privileges for testpc1 (NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED) samba_source_3.3.7 on redhat 5 64bit. I have root on the samba server but I don't have admin access to active directory (hence the auth using testpc1). Does the user granting access need some sort of admin privilege in Active Directory? How do
