Migrating user accounts Samba 3.5.3 to Windows 2003 (2008)
Hi all, I need some help with the following problem: I need to migrate a bunch of user accounts to another domain on a Windows 2003 server (eventually to 2008R2, but that step seemed to big to do in one go). To keep all access rights etc. correct, I need to get the SID history set correctly as well. From what I've researched so far, I'm aware of

samba-tool samba3upgrade question
Hi everyone, I'm looking into using this tool for migration to samba4, however I'm unable to determine if it requires any intervention on the domain members like ADMT does? After looking into the source code I see that the domain SID remains the same. Does this mean that the members (WinXP & 7) will continue to function properly? Will they start using AD membership functionality

Migration of Samba Accounts to Active Directory
Hi there, I run Samba 3.0.7 as an "NT4" PDC with about 30 clients - a mix of W2K and WinXP. My new boss wants to replace this setup with Active Directory, so our Sendmail server can be replaced with an Exchange Server. I'm having a crack at doing this with Windows Server 2003, and following this guide... http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/upgrades.html#id2605434 However,

SAMBA TO AD MIGRATION
Hi to all, I know that a few posts treat this subject, but I can't found the good answer to my problem. I actually have a Samba domain based on a smbpasswd backend. I must migrate to an AD 2003 and all is working correctly if I don't select the SID history migration. If I select this 'SID history migration' option, I received a message 'Could not verify Auditing

Eventually transitioning to Windows Server 2016
Hi, I am preparing to get our Data Center from a Samba 3.5 NT4 domain to AD. All users, file ownerships, etc. have to remain of course. I am planning to use Samba 4.7.x, but I was wondering if it is possible to eventually transition to Windows Server 2016 as the only DC hosts. The way I understand it is that this is not possible right now, because Samba doesn't support that schema version

Adding a Windows Server down the road

Does anybody know if this is possible to do? I ideally I would like it to import the users and their information to the AD on the windows server but is not required. Thanks

migrating from Samba3 with tdbsam to samba4 AD server?
What's the best path to do this? I currently have a SAMBA3 domain controller using tdbsam and would like to migrate to Samba4 as an AD controller. I assume that this will require loading my existing user database into ldap. What's the best path for this? Should I look for a samba3 to samba4 migration, continuing to use tdbsam in samba4, and then convert to ldap, or convert my existing

Migrating from 2.2.8 to AD 2008R2
Hi, We have an old samba server, 2.2.8a, running on freebsd 4.9, as a PDC. There's currently a temporary, standalone mode, win2008r2 with an (mssql) app that for full utility requires running on a ADC. I have very little experience with AD. An older version of mssql and the app were running on a standalone win2k server, which is still available if needed. I've found various

Re: Please help me with migration to MS Windows 2003
Replying on list so others may help or benefit... Arne, It's been a while since I've done one of these migrations, but here's a couple of things to try: - Make sure the clients' primary DNS server is an Active Directory Integrated DNS (in a single-DC environment, the DNS is usually the same machine as the W2K3 domain controller) - In the clients' Advanced TCP/IP

HOW TO: Migrating users' locally-stored profiles from one domain or workgroup to a new domain
Migrating Users Profiles When Changing Domain Affiliation: A Primer I. Introduction NOTE: This applies to Windows NT-based systems with locally-stored user profiles. Windows 9x and Me do not manage user profiles in the same way. Quite often we find the need to change a workstation's affiliation, either from a workgroup (that is, the workstation is not in a domain environment) to a domain,

WBC_ERR_DOMAIN_NOT_FOUND error with RFC2307
I am still trying to configure Samba to authenticate users against ActiveDirectory, but lookup uid and gids against a stand-alone OpenLDAP server. Related to a previous recommendation, I found the idmap_rfc2307 capability, which seems likely exactly what I what. Unfortunately, it does not seem to work. Users are not permitted to access shares for which they are in the group. Tests I found online

Migration from NT4 to W2K3 AD
Are there any gotcha's..... I am currently using winbindd and very successfully integrating my Samba boxes with the NT4 domain structure. The admin who is doing the migration (A corporate person not used to Linux at all) is already nervous about the migration since it involves Linux. Usernames are not supposed to change..but, the authentication domain is going to be a completely new
