password change problem and no logon servers available
Hi, we are using SAMBA 3.6.1-1 (updating this archlinux machine is tooo ugly) and 3.6.6-1 on archlinux with the LDAP (Server version is 2.4.26-3) backend and manage the users, groups and computer by using the smbldap-tools. Currently we are experiencing the following problems: 1. changing the passwords takes longer than 30 seconds <- That's bad because we are using a gigabit ethernet

Replication errors with LDAP and problems with NT machines
Hi all! I work as a computer technician for a small school and have recently upgraded our network to use samba servers. Our main computers are a PDC, a BDC, a file server and a backup server, all using Red Hat Fedora Core 3 as a base. The clients on our network consist of machines with Windows XP and a few with Windows NT. Everything seems to work just fine except for some minor but annoying

Upgraded from 3.0.9 -> 3.0.21b - Now adding machines aproblem
Yes, I had a similar problem when I upgraded from 3.0.9 -> 3.0.21b. After upgrading I could not add machines. It would find the PDC and then prompt me for a user/password, I would enter it and I got user not found error message. If I typed the password incorrect then I would get Username/Password incorrect error message. My logs showed that I was authenticating OK. So only thing I could think

Samba PDC/LDAP not mapping "logon drive"
Well it took forever (three days actually) to: 1) setup a working ldap server. Unix users now authenticate against the LDAP server perfectly. 2) Setup samba to use LDAP authentication. 3) Get the WindowsXP machines to become members of the domain. Everything seems to be working fine except for 1) roaming profiles, and 2) User's home directory (logon drive) doesn't get

AW: Big problem with roaming profiles
I had the same problem. We used samba 3.0.14 and upgraded to 3.0.20 After that profile were not loaded anymore. Th problen you are discribing looks like Windows is loading the local copy of your profile and after you deleted it it tries to load the profile from samba and fails. I found out that we had problems with "profile acls = Yes" wich was needed by the earlier samba releases.

Samba on Debian: Sarge -> Etch = broken guest shares
I upgraded a server from Debian Sarge to Etch the other day. Today I discovered a fairly major issue... All the shares I had set up for guest access have stopped working. The shares are meant to be writable by me and a few others, and read only for guest, but it's flat out refusing to authenticate anyone using guest (or unknown users which should be mapping to guest). SMB.conf is below

Script to reset group memberships...
I was used, for users that leave my network, to disable the account but also ''sanitize'' the memberships, eg reset group membership to a default values (normally, 'domain users'). Clearly, using smbldap-tools in a NT domain was easy. How can achieve the same result in a samba AD domain? Seems that avaliable commands/tools (pdbedit, wbinfo, samba-tool) does not have this
