smbclient -L succeeded even network is down
Hello list, Accidentally I found that when network is down "smbclient -L localhost -U%" became slow however it still succeeded after like half a minute. This is weird because my Samba server is running inside AD, Q1. How can smbclient authenticate without talking to AD controller? I think in this case smbclient at least tried to (reach AD controller), otherwise shouldn't take it

[homes] share not created unless linux user has a home directory in /etc/passwd
When adding a domain user to a samba 3.6 PDC I found that the [homes] share was not created. It turns out there was no home directory specified in /etc/password for this user. Once a linux home directory was added the [homes] share worked, but I would expect this to work anyway since a different path is being used for windows home directories than for the linux users. Is this expected behavior

home share issue: //server/homes errs, while //server/<username> works
Hello list, I'm running a samba server in AD domain, with some AD users explicitly mapped into local users by "username map = sambauser.map", which is a text file. Problem is found with explicitly mapped user, I can only access home share by //server/<ADusername>, not //server/homes (using windows explorer). This feels wrong because I also tried those AD users not listed in

Is ACL+extended attributes exclusive with mask/mode family options?
Hello list, I've got a question from reading Using Samba 3rd, where it puts: ... the final permission is caculated by below filters in the order used by Samba: 1. Apply any DOS attribute mapping options << I take this as either map DOS attributes to execute bits, or store DOS attributes in extended attributes. Correct? 2. Apply the create mask settings 3. Apply the force

net join & DNS
Is there an option to the net command to not have it update DNS in AD? We are joining servers using the net ads join command and it's changing our static DNS entries to dynamic ones which then get deleted when AD does its DNS scavenging. It seems that dynamically updating DNS is the default. The command we're running is: net ads join -U adminuser%adminpasswd Thanks - Mike Mike

smbclient 4.0.7 resolves host name to IP address for SMB2 but not NT1
The problem is that I don't want it to use the IP address, but to use the hostname. smbclient 4.0.7 resolves host name to IP address for SMB2 but not NT1
Second request ... Thank you in advance ... - Mike Sent: Friday, April 10, 2015 2:16 PM To: samba at lists.samba.org Subject: smbclient 4.0.7 resolves host name to IP address for SMB2 but not NT1 We are having issues with smbclient 4.0.7 not working to clusters, because it's resolving the host name ( 'default service = dev3k1.my.domain.com' in smb.conf file ) to an IP address

smbclient 4.0.7 fails transfer with STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER and SMB2 but not with NT1
We get STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER failures when smbclient uses SMB2 but passes with NT1. We do get some success, but mostly failures. It appears to happen after it transfers the PDF file. These are the packets leading up to SMB2 failing after the transfer: No. Time Source Destination Protocol Length Info 266 2015-04-09 08:30:43.688568000

Is it possible to execute Objective-C code via LLVM JIT?
Hi Stanislav, Lang I have a version of objc metadata parser based on LLVM which can handle objc2 metadata from MachO object and bitcode (bitcode version is even swift compatible). I don't know if there is enough interest for me to upstream it. It probably requires some work to clean up the interface and complete it by adding objc1 support and other object format support. SMB2 Negotiate Request
I am using samba 3.5.4 (and have tried 3.5.6) and have noticed that samba does not respond to SMB2 negotiate requests. If I use a SMB request to negotiate SMB2 it works fine. Does anyone know if there is there a reason for this, or is it a bug? I have tried searching for an answer but haven't been able to come up with anything. thanks, Mike

0.0.3d-e: JFS: Unrecognised features on journal
I updated my kernel from 0.0.3d to 0.0.3e using the "d-e" patch in the 0.0.3e tarball. When I try to boot the new kernel on a machine with an ext3 root filesystem I am getting the message: JFS: Unrecognised features on journal Does this sound feasible or even somewhat expected? Is there any interest in me doing some debugging of this? Is there any way to deal with this without

a new world | smb2
Hi Samba list! I was very excited that SMB2 is finally working with samba 3.6.0 - great job!! I just know that SMB2 has a smaller command set compared to SMB1 and this, beside many other rebuilds of the code makes it faster As I am completely new to the file transfer protocol world, I want to ask a few basic things: - is Samba backward compatible ... xp can't use SMB2 as far as I

can admin folder render HTML files?
I put a custom HTML file in the admin folder, but when I login to the admin interface then browse to it (e.g., http://server:8000/admin/mypage.html), I get "400 - UNRECOGNISED COMMAND". Is admin (or the admin folder) able to render only the standard Icecast files? I'm using 2.4.4 on Windows 10. Thanks, Justin -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was

smbclient using smb2 protocol linux-2-linux share
Trying to get a linux samba file server using samba 4.0.3 (compiled on the machine) running on ubuntu 3.8rc6 kernel to share out and negotiate with a linux client running the same kernel and smbd compiled from 4.0.3 samba source. Using wireshark to view the negotiations, I only see NT LM 0.12 (SMB v. 1). Tried forcing the file server via "min protocol = SMB2" in the
