CTDB + Samba + Winbind + ActiveDirectory
Hi All,
Are there any special CTDB/SMB configuration settings/dependencies to manage
Winbind across CTDB managed servers authenticating via Active
Directory(AD)? An example would be Samba's IDMAP backend for Winbind: RID
vs. AD or tag Winbind to a primary CTDB node and point other nodes to
authenticate from AD via proxy primary CTDB node?
/etc/sysconfig/ctdb on all nodes is as follows:

zfsacl and nfs4 settings
I am looking for where zfsacl settings such as, zfsacl: acesort =
dontcare , are documented.
Do I need NFS settings such as, nfs4: mode = simple , if I am not using
NFS? If I do, where are they documented?
Thanks

Configuring aio_pthread
I'm trying to learn more about samba by experimenting with samba on
FreeNAS. This involves a certain amount of reading how default smb4.conf
parameters are set in FreeNAS and then reading the manpages for those
parameters.
Async I/O is implemented in samba in freenas via the aio_pthread VFS
module. The manpage for vfs_aio_pthread states:
"the smb.conf parameters aio read size and aio

Samba4 bug - "mount error(5): Input/output error"
Hi Rowland,
do you maybe have any idea what could potentially cause this bug?
smbclient thrwos me back a
mount error(5): Input/output error
when I try to mount the remote smbFS. It doesn't happen with my MacOSx
and Windows 7 as client but it happens with Linux OSs and with a Konica
Minolta copy machine with a scanner to samba function. The first try to
mount fails with the above error.

File permissions getting destroyed with M$ software on ZFS
All,
Running Samba 3.5.4 on Solaris 10 with ZFS file system. I have
issues where we have shared group folders. In these folders a userA in
GroupA create file just fine with the correct inherited permissions
660. Problem is when userB in GroupA reads and modifies that file, with
M$ office apps, the permissions get whacked to 060+ and the file becomes
read only by everyone.

ZFS ACL Support
Hello,
I am running Samba 3.0.28 on a Solaris 10 8/07 x86_64 machine.
Directory services and authentication are provided by MS Active
Directory's LDAP and Kerberos.
My problem is that, when attempting to add an ACE to a file from Windows
(XP, SP2), I get an error saying "Access Denied". The share is a
directory on a ZFS filesystem (NFSv4 ACLs). Below is the share definition:

problem with files locks
Sorry for my previous email it was something wrong with my email client.
Now is the corrected version:
Hello,
I have a problem with files locks on share. My server is running
FreeBSD 10.2 (amd64) with ZFS pool (raidz) for windows share and samba
4.3.3 (ROLE_ACTIVE_DIRECTORY_DC).
The server has approximately 100 users accounts and computers accounts.

solaris 10 -zfs - smb.conf
I'm desperately looking for an example of a working smb.conf file for solaris
10 using zfs ?
I've been trying so many possible combinations of the available options, but
I can not get it working properly.
I want to mimic simple NT acls, including inheritance, and the possibility
to add AD groups.
I often get stuck on deny aces being generated as the first aces in the acl.

viewing, if not editing, NFSv4 ACL's from Samba shares
Good morning, folks.
I'm involved in a project to enforce NFSv4 ACL's across a variety of
storage platforms, in particular NetApps sharing NFS. That works fiine
with the NetApp NFS qtrees, but we'd like to share those with CIFS
clients as well. This works, and restricts access the way we expect
NFSv4 ACL's to work, but the Windows clients cannot view any of the
security settings

UPN authentication for windows 2003 server
Hi,
When samba is joined to a 2k3 domain, UPN authentication does not work. It
works using smbclient, but not from a workstation that is not part of
the domain. I can reproduce this easily and provide logs and tcpdump's if
necessary. The same problem does not occur when samba is joined to 2k8
or 2k12 domains. Is this by design? Am I missing something?

zfs acls and MS office applications
I'm trying to use zfs acls in solaris 10. I've looked at past posts
regarding this and some online help, but am stuck. I'm currently using
samba 3.3.9; I've had the same problem with 3.3.7. samba is compiled
and running as an Active Directory member server (compiled with ldap and
kerberos). The zfs disk is local. I'm not using winbind. I compiled
with zfsacl module.

Changing ownership of files on Windows (net rpc rights?)
Hello,
I am unable to change ownership of Samba shares on Windows. It makes no
difference if Samba is a PDC or if it is a member server in an Active
Directory. I am running Samba 4.1.9 on FreeBSD 9.2 with ZFS. I can
easily change ownership locally on the FreeBSD box, however, when trying
to do it from Windows it errors out with access is denied. I've
attempted to use net rpc rights grant

More strangeness with ZFS and Samba
A new problem now. Running Samba 3.5.4, on Solaris 10 with zfs.
Issue with Microsoft Office 2007:
User opens up a .xlsx, then closes the file (Not Excel).
Then user reopens the .xlsx file and now Excel says the file is
read-only. But permissions on the file have not changed!
Only fix is to exit out of Excel and restart, then user can open that
file just fine.
The issue also looks to be tied
