Can't remember name of command to temporarily disable a share
I need to temporarily disable a share for a few days, I remember there
was an entry I could add to the share definition to temporarily disable
the share (I think it was disabled=true or enabled=false) but I can't
remember what it was for sure, nor can I find it in the manual. what is
it ?

[SMB 3.0.10] File Locking Mechanism Windows <-> Unix
Hello,
Iam facing a problem in locking of files across samba shares. We have samba
3.0.10 running on Solaris 9 with the smb.conf as follows.
# Global parameters
[global]
workgroup = NMUINT
netbios name = NMUINTFS
interfaces = <IP>
bind interfaces only = Yes

smb locks
Hi,
I see samba with ctdb locking has following mapping when
kernel oplocks = yes.
share mode reservations = flock(2)
posix byte range locking = fcntl(2)
SMB locks (mandatory) = ctdb using brlock.tdb
oplocks = fcntl(2) using F_SETLEASE
Am I correct or I am missing something? I hope only SMB range
locks are implemented with tdb, all else are being used from filesystem.

oplocks, kernel oplocks, kernel share modes, .. - how it all works?
Hi!
I'm trying to understand how various ways to grant a file lease to (windows) clients
works. Especially in context when files are being modified locally on the linux
filesystem.
For example, there's this wording in man smb.conf:
kernel share modes

Kernel share modes provide a minimal level of interoperability with
local UNIX processes and NFS operations by

Samba - Oplocks = no
In order to deal with bizarre MS Office junk, it looks like I may have to
disable oplocks on my samba server. What kinds of problems, if any could
arise from my having disabled the oplocks?

file locking options in smb.conf
Hi List,
I have a file server which runs samba-3.0.28a. My aim is to share a logical volume ( with XFS filesystem) using SAMBA, NFS and FTP. Since it is a file server I?m very much concerned about file locking. After googling and reading a lot I had set file locking flags in smb.conf
?lock directory = /var/lock/samba
strict locking = no
locking = yes
level2 oplocks = no

using VSS on a samba server - no smb locks ?
Hi all,
We are considering moving our VSS database from a Win2K server to a samba server.
All clients are Win2K clients.
I used the VSS tool "testlock.exe" to make sure the native lock mode can be used.
The test was successful, and I saw that an SMBlock transaction was performed, and a reply_lockingX was replied.
When I opened a VSS database on the samba server and started to use it -

Samba4 oplocks: LibreOffice and Word file locking
Hi
Lan with S4 and built-in file server for Windows clients. nfs for Linux
clients.
We are using LibreOffice to share documents and file locking works fine.
The first guy to open the doc gets the lock and a message is displayed
on other clients (windows or Linux) that the file is open.
Fine
Some users must however use Word 2010 to edit documents. Then file
locking doesn't work: anyone

SOLVED - Oplocks not taking place at all unless fake oplocks = yes
The kernel on my server appears to be refusing oplocks altogether. Setting 'kernel oplocks = no' resolved the issue. Is there any caveats I should be aware of?

oplocks and pagemaker files
SuSE 7.2, Samba 2.2.6
User plaform WIN98se
Was wondering if someone could point me to information regarding oplocks (I
read the man on smb.conf regarding that and level2 oplocks)...
I needed to set oplocks = no and level2 oplocks = no in order for them to
be able to open pagemaker files from the samba server...otherwise it would
say 'can not open file'
I am just trying to get a grip on

File locking with different (client) platforms
I have a problem with file locking on different platforms.

oplocks and samba 2.2.7
About two months ago our sysadmin upgraded to samba 2.2.7 and we have not
had any oplock problems since.
A heartfelt thanks from the University of Wisconsin in Madison to the Samba
team for all their hard work.
If our hundreds of users understood what was going on behind the scenes,
they'd be thanking you too.

samba and oplocks and office applications
I'm using samba version 2.2.1a on a linux RH7.2 kernel 2.4.7-10.
I'm having a lot of oplock problems, specially when using office
applications like word.
I would like to know:
1. what is the recommended configuration in version 2.2.1a (oplocks = yes/no
, level2 oplocks = yes/no , kernel oplocks = yes/no)
2. what is considered to be a stable version for oplocks usage
Thanks,

Samba and oplocks
Hi
We've here some problems with Samba on a freeBSD-Server.
FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE
Samba Version 3.0.25a
The problem is about locking of open files. For example when a user A
opens a excel-sheet and a user B also opens the same file, user B won't
only open this file as read-only.
We moved from a Windows Server to a freebsd based one about 2 weeks ago
and we also had some problems with dbs

locking .. smb locks and unix locks
I posted a question earlier (below) regarding two
instances of samba on the same machine.
Unfortuneately my question only elicited questions.
Can anyone tell me whether samba locks and Unix
locks pay well together? Will samba notice unix
locks aaaaand vice versa? I _did_ look at the documentation
but I think it was very out of date. (e.g. UNIX-SMB.txt
in samba 2.2.3 says that "Unix has

kernel oplocks in ctdb environment
Hi
Can anyone advise me on "kernel oplocks" in a ctdb cluster.
I have a ctdb (GPFS is the parallel file system) setup that uses samba
(3.5.8) for cifs and IBM CNFS for NFS. Reading the documentation on
kernel oplocks it seems to me that I can export the same area via samba
and NFS with "kernel oplocks = Yes" .
My logic is that IBM CNFS has shared NFS locking
