Resharing a Remotely Mounted CIFS share
Greetings.
I am attempting to configure a SAMBA server to act as a "gateway" server
and am having some issues. Any assistance or clarification would be
greatly appreciated.
Our company has need to connect to remote CIFS server, running SAMBA,
hosted by a remote company. To do this, I am attempting to mount the
remote share to a local server and then reshare this back out to our

Bungled update
I was running 3.0 on a freebsd-7.2 box as a PDC, I needed to add some
windows 7 computers to the mix. So I jumped from 3.0 to samba34-3.4.5_1. I
was able to get the windows 7 into the mix. But in the jump I lost some
features on the other computers. I have a mix of Windows 2000 pro, Windows
XP pro and Windows 7 pro and the one PDC.
The windows computers are unable to share printers. Not able to

Samba 4 migration from dead SBS 2003
Hello,
I have successfully joined a SBS 2003 (SRVACMPDC01) domain with two
additional Samba 4 DCs (SAMBA4PDC and SAMBA4DEDI, currently both
4.0.4-GIT-9899851). Everything worked fine: DNS / AD replication etc.
The windows server was still responsible for DNS / DHCP / all FSMO
roles. Now the original SBS 2003 crashed and refuses to start again
(long story).
In order to get a temporary workaround

Setting user permissions (acl) with standalone server & Win XP
Hello,
I am trying to provide our users a way to change file/folder permissions
on public share on samba (3.0.28a) ROLE_STANDALONE server. ACL's are
working fine but the problem is to get list of users and groups on samba
server via Windows XP Professional (SP3).
When I open 'Select users or groups' dialog and pressing 'Find now'
button the Windows asks my Samba

home share disconnected / delayed write failure
Hello everybody,
we have an annoying problem with our samba server randomly disconnecting the home shares.
Our "Application Data" folders as well as "Desktop" are redirected to directories in the user's home folder outside ".profiledata" to avoid the copying during logon /logoff.

Problems with SAMBA as PDC and Windows XP SP2 as client
Hi!!
We are trying to configure a Debian Linux Server as Samba Server (Domain
Controller) and a Windows XP (with Service Pack 2) as client. We have
configured Windows into the Samba Domain (in other words, we have been
able to agregate the machine into the domain), but when we restart
Windows and try to login with a samba user (from linux server)
(selecting the Domain), we received a message

ACLs passwd file and winbind.
Hi
Is there a way of getting samba to use the passwd file entries when
utilising POSIX extended acls.
I have two groups of users
1) A vast amount of users who access filestore via windows only. In this
case I winbind and idmap to assign random UNIX uids as is normal.
2) I also have a much smaller group of users who use NFS and CIFS to
access the same area. In this case I put an entry in

Samba - slow performance
Hello,
We have a small setup where we write files on a Windows system to a
samba mounted location coming from a linux system. This linux system
has NVME disks and 10gige connections. We are getting slow write
performance and our setup should be able to get better write speeds.
I am attaching our config files and hoping someone can assist with
tuning our smb.conf for getting better performance:

Set ACLs on Samba share from Windows
Okay, let's try this again.
I have a Samba server, joined to my Windows Active Directory domain, and
I'm having a problem setting ACLs on a share from Windows. On Windows, I
get the error message "Unable to save permission changes on <folder>. The
parameter is incorrect." and when I look in my Samba log, I see the
message "ACL is invalid for set (Invalid

Server-Side Copy Offload Limitations
Sorry if config was messy, we were using this server for various tests
including ADS tests and n-way master replication. Back on topic,
I've done changes to configuration as you suggested. Runing debian as
standalone server with beforementioned enviroment I can still copy files
between shares on the same pool without pushing them through Windows
client. Is this intended behavior?

problem upgrading 3.0.23->3.0.26
I'm trying to upgrade and old server from the 3.0.23 to the 3.0.26
version (suse93->suse103)
(for brevity, abbreviating 3.0.23->.23, and 3.0.26->.26)
It's not working as smoothly as I had hoped...and was wondering if
anyone has seen similar behavior or if I have some "gotcha" that I
haven't kept up on (quite possible, since I move my

CIFS mount not applying setuids
Hello all,
I've been dealing with this problem for years now and I am a bit fed
up with it. Maybe some of you all can shed some light on the situation.
I am having problems with my samba server setting the
uid/gid/permissions incorrectly when a file is written to the server
filesystem over cifs. I currently use the account remotemounter for
mounting samba shares. Even with the

inherit group on new files/directories
I have a share with folders belonging to diferent groups, with
restricted access depending on unix groups.
When a user creates a file inside one of this folders I want it created
with "directory group"; I think it should be possible using "inherit
acl" but it don't work; my share configuration is:

path = /home/samba/arees

Samba group management understanding
Hello all,
I want to set up a share for a project (enseign)
First thing I did is to create a group for that project (with
smbldap-groupadd) and add project members to that group.
Then I created a test_smb directory on my linux server with the
following access rights:
drwxrwx--- 2 gbayard enseign 4096 avr 29 15:03 /test_smb
Note: the idea is that only group members should be able to
